Ford Projects $3 Billion Loss on EV Segment This Year
Ford Motors ( F ) is projecting a $3 billion loss on its electric vehicle (EV) segment this year, underscoring how traditional automakers’ EV businesses are still far from profitable. The company disclosed the figure in a report issued Thursday, where it outlined a new financial reporting structure based on the firm’s three core business segments, rather than geographic regions, to create a more customer-centric business driving value and growth. These include Ford Blue, encompassing gas-powered and hybrid vehicles, Ford Model e, focusing on breakthrough EVs, and Ford Pro, which manages commercial products and services. "We’ve essentially 'refounded' Ford, with business segments that provide new degrees of strategic clarity, insight, and accountability to the Ford+ plan for growth and value," CFO John Lawler said. Ford has expanded its EV offerings in recent years, including the F-150 Lightning pickup truck and Mustang Mach E SUV. Last year, CEO Jim Farley separated the … [Read more...] about Ford Projects $3 Billion Loss on EV Segment This Year
Take back your time in 2023 with these simple planning strategies
One resource we can’t replenish is time. So, it’s no wonder that people are so interested in how to save time or get more done in less of it. When we can get more done during the hours we have, we can use that “saved” time for something more meaningful. Some people take their time-saving efforts to an extreme, even going so far as to wear the same thing every day , saving time and possibly alleviating decision fatigue . And while you may not relish the thought of wearing the same suit or hoodie every day, there are some other ways you can take back your most precious resource and devote it—and its accompanying brain power—to something better. Assess your workflow (even outside of work) First, start by observing how you are spending your time, says productivity coach Maura Nevel Thomas, author of Personal Productivity Secrets: Do What You Never Thought Possible with Your Time and Attention and Regain Control of Your Life . … [Read more...] about Take back your time in 2023 with these simple planning strategies
Evergrande’s Restructuring Plan For Offshore Debt Still Carries Considerable Risks For Creditors
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin China Evergrande Group has unveiled its plan to restructure about $19 billion of offshore debt, buying more time for its billionaire founder Hui Ka Yan to resume operations and generate much-needed cash. But analysts say the plan lacks details and offers less-than-favorable terms for creditors. Holders of offshore debt in the Hong Kong-listed company are to receive a basket of options, according to a late Wednesday filing to the city’s stock exchange. The bondholders can either swap their debt for new notes with maturities of 10-12 years, or they can convert them into new notes with repayment terms of five to nine years combined with equity-linked instruments. The instruments will be tied to the shares of Evergrande itself, its property management business or its Hong Kong-listed electric car unit. “The proposed restructuring will alleviate the company’s pressure of offshore indebtedness and facilitate the company’s … [Read more...] about Evergrande’s Restructuring Plan For Offshore Debt Still Carries Considerable Risks For Creditors
GitHub launches its new GPT-4-powered Copilot coding assistant
GitHub begins rolling out a new GPT-4 -powered version of its Copilot coding assistant today. The new iteration expands the tool’s functionality to more phases of the code creation process. The original Copilot , launched in 2022, was based on the earlier GPT-3 model, and worked within the developer’s editor window to autocomplete lines or sections of code, or generate code based on plain language requests. “We’re bringing Copilot into every part of the developer experience,” says GitHub CEO Thomas Dohmke. “So, not just auto completion, but it will become part of every single step of the developer life cycle.” The new Copilot also brings with it a more ChatGPT-like experience. GitHub has integrated a chatbot into the editor environment in development tools such as VS Code and Visual Studio. Developer-users can interact with the Copilot chat interface using either text commands or voice commands. But this chatbot does more than just chat, Dohmke stresses. “It … [Read more...] about GitHub launches its new GPT-4-powered Copilot coding assistant
Web3 Rebels Vs. Tech. Oligopolies
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin People often ask me, “what is Web3?” My short answer, which I elaborate on in my ‘What The Zuck’ article and keynotes , is always—you are! Why? Because the promise of Web3 flips the ownership model and gives the money and the power back to you. Social media has deteriorated in many countries—especially for women—and the tech. and media oligopolists love it. These media landlords like TikTok, Facebook, Instagram, Google, Twitter, Apple, et al. have taken control of everything we do, say, share, post and buy online—and they are not very excited about the changes Web3 can usher in to their market. Want proof? While Tik Tok’s CEO, Shou Chew, was grilled by U.S. lawmakers in Washington today—last week at SXSW, his former product head admitted this about creators: “Platforms don’t really care if you are successful…because their metrics are 100 percent focused on retention, publish rates, active days. Monetization of … [Read more...] about Web3 Rebels Vs. Tech. Oligopolies

TikTok CEO Spars With Congress Amid Growing Calls For Ban—As Lawmaker Calls Privacy Claims ‘Preposterous’
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Topline TikTok CEO Shou Zi Chew faced intense questioning from lawmakers in his first hearing before Congress Tuesday morning, defending the popular social media app and insisting it protects U.S. user data from foreign interference, though House members from both sides of the aisle remained skeptical of TikTok's plans as the Chinese-owned platform fights against a possible U.S. ban or forced sale. Key Facts Rep. Cathy McMorris Rodgers (R-Wash.)—chair of the House Energy & Commerce Committee—asked about spying and surveillance on U.S. users by TikTok, which is owned by Beijing-based tech company ByteDance, but Chew said he "disagrees with the characterization" that the social media platform is spying on American users and said TikTok is “committed” to protecting U.S. data from foreign access. The 5 Cringiest Fantasy Suite Moments In ‘Bachelor’ And ‘Bachelorette’ History
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Fans who tuned in to watch Zach Shallcross indulge in a trio of Fantasy Suite dates on the current season of “The Bachelor” know that the one-on-one meetups turned into awkward exercises in expectation versus reality. In particular, as Shallcross told anyone who would listen, he didn’t expect to have sex with any of the final three contestants (Kaity Biggar, Ariel Frenkel and Gabi Elnicki). Intimacy was “off the table.” It would only “muddy things.” The 26-year-old wanted to remain chaste until he picked the one he planned to propose to on finale night. But by his third date, he’d already flip-flopped on the plan, confessed, cried, apologized and talked about it all more than anyone, least of all Biggar , wanted to hear. It marked the most cringe-inducing moment in Shallcross’ season so far. But it’s far from the first cringey Fantasy Suite moment in the history of Bachelor Nation. It’s just one of the top … [Read more...] about The 5 Cringiest Fantasy Suite Moments In ‘Bachelor’ And ‘Bachelorette’ History
