Impressive 140-Acre Estate In The Heart Of Virginia Asks $11 Million

May 21, 2022 by www.forbes.com

Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Eaglecrest is a 140-acre estate in the heart of Virginia that was inspired by such presidential mansions as George Washington’s Mount Vernon and Thomas Jefferson’s Monticello. Set in Charlottesville, about a 2-hour drive from Washington, D.C., the property has easy access to historical sites, wineries and outdoor recreation including hiking, horseback riding and golf. Nearby are the University of Virginia, President James Monroe’s Highland residence and Montpelier, the home of President James Madison. “While this home offers seclusion, privacy and a certain – rather difficult to find these days – serenity, Charlottesville's bustling downtown is a mere 15-minute drive away,” says listing agent Fouad Talout of Long & Foster Real Estate . “The city offers exciting nightlife and honest Southern hospitality. This property truly offers the best of both worlds.” Completed in 2000, the residential compound … [Read more...] about Impressive 140-Acre Estate In The Heart Of Virginia Asks $11 Million

Ewan McGregor poses at the Corinthia Hotel to celebrate the upcoming launch of Obi-Wan Kenobi on Disney+ in London, Britain, May 12, 2022. Image: Reuters/Matthew Childs “Star Wars” Jedi master Obi-Wan Kenobi is back for a six-part television series and so is Ewan McGregor, who had played him as a young man. Forget the Jedi mind tricks and lightsaber battles, though. “Obi-Wan’s not doing that anymore. He’s living a normal life. He’s not living the life of a Jedi anymore,” said McGregor, who is also executive producer of the series, in an interview. “We can see from the trailer that there are these inquisitors that are doing Vader’s job of tracking down the last Jedi. He wants to destroy every last Jedi,” he said. “They’re looking for him, so you can’t use the Force because he might give himself away.” It has been 17 years since McGregor donned the cowl of the Jedi in “Star Wars: The Revenge of the Sith,” the last of the prequel trilogy. “They were very difficult to make. The Olympics have never been canceled outside of the world wars and Coates, speaking in a phone interview, was adamant that the Tokyo Games will start on their revised date. “It will take place with or without COVID. The Games will start on July 23 next year,” said Coates, who heads the International Olympic Committee’s Coordination Commission for the Tokyo Games. “The Games were going to be, their theme, the Reconstruction Games after the devastation of the tsunami,” he added, referring to a catastrophic earthquake and tsunami in northeastern Japan in 2011. “Now very much these will be the Games that conquered COVID, the light at the end of the tunnel.” In a historic … [Read more...] about Tokyo Olympics will go ahead ‘with or without Covid’ – IOC’s Coates

Vintage 2021 Part 1 – Bordeaux Left Bank

May 22, 2022 by www.forbes.com

Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin During a visit to the village of Jonzac this spring, a young Bordeaux woman explained to me how to detect overall quality of the past wine vintage. ‘You never know until November, December and January. Then, look to see whether vine growers begin painting their homes.’ Lavishing funds on home renovations, she implied, signals confidence in the quality of the latest vintage, and expected future wine sales. During this past winter and current spring, few winemakers appear to have slapped coats of emulsion on residences. At least, not yet. In comparison to the opulence, firmness, structure and complexity shared by Bordeaux vintages from 2018 through 2020, the year 2021 proved challenging. Weather conditions were at least quixotic; at best mercurial. Frost on April 6 th , 7 th and 8 th of 2021 decimated various vineyards, while a rainy winter and wet spring propagated mildew throughout ample soggy Bordeaux … [Read more...] about Vintage 2021 Part 1 – Bordeaux Left Bank

Johnny Depp And Amber Heard’s Trial Has Stans Scrambling To Control The Narrative

May 21, 2022 by www.forbes.com

Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin The trial between Johnny Depp and Amber Heard continues its downward plunge, airing daily doses of dirty laundry, bringing out the worst in its audience. Live-streaming on multiple platforms, featuring a wide range of celebrity witnesses, the trial has been a sordid spectacle from the beginning, a cruel parody of reality television; few other events are capable of maintaining this amount of attention for such an extended period of time - celebrity scandals usually fade as fast as they arrive on our timelines. But the “serialized” nature of the case, the constant drips of new information, have turned this trial into a goldmine of content, launching small creators into the stratosphere - legal experts, armchair experts, and gossip merchants are all armed with pickaxes, hacking away like there’s no tomorrow. Amid the swirling social media hysteria, it’s easy to forget what the trial is even about - defamation, … [Read more...] about Johnny Depp And Amber Heard’s Trial Has Stans Scrambling To Control The Narrative

Joe Biden tendng to business in South Korea visit with Hyundai exec

May 22, 2022 by www.denverpost.com

SEOUL, South Korea — President Joe Biden is tending to both business and security interests Sunday as he wraps up a three-day visit to South Korea, showcasing Hyundai’s pledge to build a $5.5 billion electric vehicle and battery factory in Georgia and visiting U.S. and South Korean troops monitoring the rapidly evolving North Korean nuclear threat. The major U.S. investment by a South Korean company, which was formally unveiled in Georgia on Friday, is a reflection of how the U.S. and South Korea are leveraging their longstanding military ties into a broader economic partnership. The U.S. president has made greater economic cooperation with South Korea a priority, saying on Saturday that “it will bring our two countries even closer together, cooperating even more closely than we already do, and help strengthen our supply chains, secure them against shocks and give our economies a competitive edge.” The pandemic and Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in February has forced a deeper … [Read more...] about Joe Biden tendng to business in South Korea visit with Hyundai exec
