Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Every legendary investor worth their salt has some sort of phrase to describe what investors should be doing right this very minute. “Be fearful when others are greedy, be greedy when others are fearful.” “Buy when there’s blood in the streets.” Largely speaking, most stocks on the market are on sale to some extent. And sure, we could go out and make a few targeted bets on these bargains. But I’d prefer to squeeze even more value out of the stock market. Enter closed-end funds (CEFs). Why CEFs Are Our Best Option Now If we were to go out and buy an exchange-traded fund (ETF) that invests in, say, the Nasdaq Composite or Russell 2000, or really any area of the market you felt was underpriced, you’d be able to enjoy in the collective discounts of all their holdings. No more, no less. But with CEFs , we can do even better. My mom, to this day, refuses to pay the sticker price. Warren Buffett’s Berkshire Hathaway finally bails on Wells Fargo
New York (CNN Business) Warren Buffett's Berkshire Hathaway has been a top investor in Wells Fargo for the past few years, despite the company's fake account scanda l, overcharging foreign-exchange customers and myriad other problems. Now, the Oracle of Omaha has finally thrown in the towel. Berkshire Hathaway ( BRKB ) disclosed late Monday that it sold its remaining stake in Wells Fargo ( WFC ) during the first quarter, according to the conglomerate's latest filing of holdings with the Securities and Exchange Commission. Shares of Wells Fargo rallied with other bank stocks Tuesday, however. Berkshire still owned a tiny stake in Wells Fargo as of the end of the fourth quarter of 2021, but had been cutting the position gradually since 2019. Many Berkshire investors had been pressuring the company to sell all its holdings in the bank, arguing that its continuing problems were a stain on Berkshire. "If you have exhausted sellers, there's no one else left to sell ... the market has really been pummeled," said Mimi Duff, senior client advisor at investment advisory firm GenTrust. "So at the very sight of any good news you can get a bounce, but what we are really looking for is some consolidation." How Pistol Caliber Carbines Can Fit In Your Defensive Plan
By Sheriff Jim Wilson, Shooting Illustrated Image Caption: Ruger ’s PC Carbine is just one of the many options available for those who choose the PCC lifestyle. Accepting Glock magazines and with a variety of options for attaching accessories, the PC Carbine makes a lot of sense for defense. Students of firearm history know the concept of pistol-caliber carbines is not a new one. They really first became a hot item back in 1873, when Winchester introduced the Model 1873 carbine and rifle. Coincidentally, that is the same year Colt unveiled the Single Action Army revolver. In short order, Winchester offered the Model 73 in .44-40 WCF, .38-40 WCF and .32-20 WCF chamberings. Colt responded by chambering its big revolver in the same calibers. Surprisingly, in those days the Winchester was not chambered in .45 Colt; that only occurred in more modern times. Marlin and other companies soon got on the bandwagon, too, offering carbines that were compatible with Colt, Smith & … [Read more...] about How Pistol Caliber Carbines Can Fit In Your Defensive Plan
Crypto’s Great Reset: How Digital Asset Investors Will Recover From The Market’s $1 Trillion Meltdown
The bottom fell out from one of crypto’s fastest growing blockchains, LUNA, which promised to succeed where bitcoin failed. Its predictable collapse reverberated across the entire crypto market and is forcing investors to pick up the pieces. C rypto’s history has been defined by five resets. The first came in 2014 when what was basically the only bitcoin exchange in the world, Mt. Gox, imploded following a nearly half-billion-dollar hack. The second, in 2016, was The DAO hack, when an attacker tricked a smart contract into giving away $60 million worth of ethereum, worth $8 billion today. The third, in January 2018, occurred when the ICO bubble popped, starting a year-long decline wiping out 60% of the crypto market or more than $700 million mostly in the form of worthless junk tokens. The fourth took place in March 2020 when crypto lost 40% of its value along with most other global financial markets. Each reset not only led to price-market capitalization increases, they … [Read more...] about Crypto’s Great Reset: How Digital Asset Investors Will Recover From The Market’s $1 Trillion Meltdown
Walmart slides after cutting profit forecast on rising costs
Walmart CEO Doug McMillon - A + A DALLAS (May 17): Walmart Inc fell the most in two years after cutting its profit outlook due to inflationary pressures, especially in food and fuel. The retail giant now sees earnings per share falling by about 1% this year, compared with a prior view of mid-single-digit gains, Walmart said in a statement Tuesday. Adjusted profit fell to US$1.30 a share during the first quarter ended in late April. That trailed the US$1.48 average of analyst estimates compiled by Bloomberg . The Bentonville, Arkansas-based company, which for decades has championed “everyday low prices,” is vying for more customers as inflation pushes shoppers to look harder for bargains. But higher costs for merchandise, transportation and labor pose a growing threat to profitability. That’s raising the stakes as Walmart must decide how much of those costs they will pass along to consumers. “US inflation levels, particularly in food and fuel, created more … [Read more...] about Walmart slides after cutting profit forecast on rising costs
