First, a rumor began floating around Twitter in early 2020 that Marvel Studios was looking for an “Alison Brie-type” to play She-Hulk in the Disney+ series of the same name, now premiering Thursday. Brie had fun with the rumors on The Late Late Show and the role eventually went to Tatiana Maslany. ‘The Last Movie Stars’: The Coveted HBO Max Limited Documentary Series Appeals To All Ages
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin As cultures and communities evolve, TV and streaming genres do as well. So, it is particularly refreshing to see how positively the audience (and the critics) have responded to HBO Max’s limited documentary series The Last Movie Stars . Designed both as a showcase for the older generation familiar with the body of work on film by Paul Newman and Joanne Woodward, and for the younger generation, perhaps, not as aware of them (if at all), The Last Movie Stars breaks the stereotype that viewers of a specific age range will only consume certain types of content. Fans and viewers of all ages have responded to this documentary tale of these two film legends who, surprisingly, kept much of their lives private. “They had love, they had family, and they were ethical citizens,” noted director Ethan Hawke in the film, who in this six-part tour de force assembles a wide array of celebrities (including George Clooney as Paul Newman … [Read more...] about ‘The Last Movie Stars’: The Coveted HBO Max Limited Documentary Series Appeals To All Ages

How Alison Brie Struck Perfect Balance Of Heart And Comedy In ‘Spin Me Round’
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Alison Brie added another impressive notch to her writing belt with the film Spin Me Round , screening at the Cinequest Film Festival Wednesday evening (September 17) at 7:15 p.m. PT at the Hammer Theatre Centre in San Jose, California. Spin Me Round will be in theaters, On Demand, and streaming on AMC+ August 19th. The movie marks the third feature film writing credit for Brie, who plays “Amber” in addition to co-writing the movie about a woman who wins an all-expenses-paid trip to her company's facility outside of Florence and the chance to meet the restaurant chain's rich, charismatic owner. As Alison has impressed with her acting in major projects like Community , Glow , and Mad Men over the years, as well as 70-plus other works, I found myself zeroing in on the story, character development, and jokes in Spin Me Round — which all flowed beautifully like an Italian red — that she helped create. What Rob McElhenney And Ryan Reynolds Learned After Buying A Soccer Team
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Actors Rob McElhenney ( Always Sunny in Philadelphi a) and Ryan Reynolds ( Deadpool ) knew they were in over their heads when they purchased the Welsh soccer club Wrexham A.F.C. in early 2021, especially since they hadn’t even met in person before becoming co-owners of the fifth tier Red Dragons, but their hearts were in the right place. With little to no Wrexham or general soccer knowledge, the duo’s desire to help the third oldest pro soccer team in the world get promoted to a better league trumped their lack of knowledge with the sport, city, and team. McElhenney and Reynolds’ journey with the North Wales football organization and working-class diehard fans, as well as their first in-person meeting, is chronicled in the compelling and heartfelt docuseries Welcome to Wrexham , premiering with two episodes on Wednesday , August 24 on FX at 10 p.m. ET, streaming the next day on Hulu. Review: Beast Is a Lean, Tight Survival Thriller That Doesn’t Reinvent Any Wheels
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin A good constant-pressure, mile-a-minute-danger thriller is always welcome, and it’s an approach to plotting that works well in a variety of genres from the dramatic tension of Uncut Gems to the sci-fi-horror stylings of Underwater . Beast is another film in that tradition, a tight 90-minute thriller about a family in jeopardy against a natural force that’s out for blood. It’s a film that doesn’t reinvent the wheel (and at times is a little too simple), but it’s a decent survival thriller upheld by a talented set of performers, easily worth the time of any audience who wants a tight thrill ride in a lean theatrical package. Idris Elba plays Dr. Nate Daniels, a man who takes his daughters Meredith (Iyana Halley) and Norah (Leah Jeffries) on a trip into the heart of Africa to bond and reconnect following the tragic death of his ex-wife/their mother. He meets up with friend Martin Battles (Sharlto Copley), a ranger who … [Read more...] about Review: Beast Is a Lean, Tight Survival Thriller That Doesn’t Reinvent Any Wheels
