HQ Trivia and Vine cofounder Colin Kroll was found dead on Sunday. He was aged just 34. He had a reputation as a talented but uncompromising boss, who had a history of clashes with staff. Complaints were reportedly made about his behaviour at HQ and Vine, and he also apologised this year for “poor management.” His own father, Alan Kroll, said he was a “tough boss” with a strong work ethic. Kroll achieved a rare thing though: He created a breakout hit – twice. Colin Kroll’s death at the age of 34 was met with an outpouring of grief from staff at HQ Trivia. But it also provoked an honest assessment of his chequered management history – from his own father. Recode has led reporting on some of the growing pains at HQ Trivia and Kroll’s record as a boss, both at HQ and Vine, the looping video app he also cofounded. In December last year, Recode said some VC firms sat out of an HQ Trivia raise due to concerns about Kroll’s … [Read more...] about HQ Trivia and Vine cofounder Colin Kroll was a talented but tough boss who had a history of clashes with staff

Peters rocked a white suit with bedazzled lapels and wide-leg pants, another breath of fresh air in this year's edition of the pageant. Elon Musk said in May that SpaceX would launch more orbital missions in 2018 than any nation on Earth. Musk’s rocket company didn’t achieve that goal, as China successfully launched at least 35 rockets. But SpaceX broke the world record for most commercial rocket launches in a year, with 20. This has been SpaceX’s most incredible year yet for launching rockets. In 2018, Elon Musk’s aerospace company achieved 20 successful launches. The company still has one more launch planned for December. Lindsey Bahr, Associated Press Published 4:24 PM EST Dec 14, 2018 “Mary, Queen of Scots” is an ambitious reimagining of the Mary Stuart and Elizabeth I saga with modern flourishes and bold performances from Saoirse Ronan and Margot Robbie. But the film, for all its prestige and edginess, its lofty goals and contemporary messages, is not a particularly engrossing experience. It’s a shame, too, because most of the elements are there. They just don’t come together very well. The film straddles an awkward line between wanting to be both a “Game of Thrones”-style actioner and a modern take on what it was like to be a female leader in the 16th Century. Director Josie Rourke, who has a background in theater, certainly has a knack for grandeur and drama. But choppy … [Read more...] about Uninspired ‘Mary, Queen of Scots’ tampers with history
