The agency entrusted for a half-century to protect our wild equines — the Bureau of Land Management — has completed three large-scale helicopter roundups of Colorado mustangs since last summer, removing 2,000 wild horses from their rangelands and separating highly social animals from their bonded, familial herds, forever. The largest roundup ended Aug. 1 and set a record when agents removed 864 wild horses belonging to the Piceance-East Douglas herd of Rio Blanco County, named for the white river that flows through this far western part of the state. Under the 1971 Wild Free-Roaming Horses and Burros Act, our land managers are supposed to protect wild horses and burros — an integral part of our public lands — from capture, harassment, or death. By finally winning a gold medal with her country at the UEFA Women's Euro, Scott added to the silver she won at the 2009 Euro and the bronze she collected at the 2015 Women's World Cup. (CTN News) – A statement from the Edmonton Oilers says Ben had an enormous impact on the team and the community. The Edmonton Oilers say they are mourning the death of Ben Stelter, a six-year-old boy with cancer whom the team rallied around during their run to the Western Conference final . Stelter’s father, Mike Stelter, said in a tweet that his son died Tuesday night. Ben Stelter was diagnosed with glioblastoma, a form of brain cancer, before his fifth birthday. He attended several games during the Oilers’ playoff run. The Oilers went on a 10-game home winning streak at one point with Stelter in attendance. (CNN) A polio case identified in New York last month is "just the very, very tip of the iceberg" and an indication there "must be several hundred cases in the community circulating," a senior official with the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention told CNN on Wednesday. The case was found In Rockland County, which has a stunningly low polio vaccination rate. Dr. José Romero, director of the CDC's National Center for Immunization and Respiratory Diseases, noted that the majority of people with polio don't have symptoms and so can spread the virus without knowing it.
