Chess is one of the oldest games in history. Played by everyone from ancient kings to today's online players, the game is enjoyed by millions. Countries like Russia have always viewed chess as a way to show intelligence, while others have used it as a way to bring people together. A game that stands for history and genius, there is much to learn from people based on how they play . I've played chess ever since I was little, and the more I play the more I realize how emotions affect the game. For instance, whenever I make a bad move I start to play more aggressively. This is caused by frustration, but also a strategy to force the other player into making an error. Small decisions like this can give you great insight into the personality of your opponent. Sometimes when I interview someone, I ask him or her if they'd like to play me in chess. Besides wanting to just play, I can also look for signs to gain a better understanding of the applicant. Next time you sit down for a … [Read more...] about 3 Ways Playing Chess Can Help You Read People

Trump’s ‘Chinese Virus’ Tweet Helped Fuel Anti-Asian Hate On Twitter, Study Finds
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Topline A tweet by former President Donald Trump referring to Covid-19 as the “Chinese Virus” was linked with a rise in anti-Asian content on Twitter, new research has found, as demands across the U.S. grow for urgent action to be taken to address soaring levels of hate crime and violence against Asian Americans during the pandemic that many blame on harmful rhetoric used by politicians. Key Facts A March 2020 tweet by then-President Trump that referred to Covid-19 as “the Chinese virus” led anti-Asian hashtags on the platform to rise “precipitously,” according to a new study published by the University of California, San Francisco. In the days before and after Trump’s tweet, the researchers examined 700,000 tweets containing more than 1.2 million anti-Asian hashtags, which the researchers said are known to be a predictor of hate crimes and the formation of hate groups. Nearly 200 nations near a deal to slow global warming
French President Francois Hollande, left, French foreign minister Laurent Fabius, center, and United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki-moon applaud at the COP21, the United Nations Climate Change Conference, in Le Bourget, north of Paris, Saturday, Dec.12, 2015. Fabius says a “final” draft of a global climate pact would be legally binding. AP LE BOURGET, France— France presented negotiators from nearly 200 nations with what it called a “final draft” of an unprecedented climate deal to slow global warming and urged them to approve it on Saturday. The deal would slow rising temperatures and sea levels, and eventually hold man-made emissions to the levels that nature can absorb. If the pact known as “the Paris agreement” is approved, countries would be committed to keeping the rise in global temperatures by the year 2100 compared with pre-industrial times “well below” 2 degrees Celsius (3.6 degrees Fahrenheit) and “endeavor to limit” them even more, to 1.5 degrees Celsius. That was a … [Read more...] about Nearly 200 nations near a deal to slow global warming
As Monkeypox Spreads, Here’s Who Should Get A Vaccine—And How
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Topline Monkeypox vaccines will be offered to anyone in the U.S. who thinks they have been been exposed to the virus and groups most at risk of catching it, including men who have sex with men, measures officials hope will contain the growing outbreak as they work to bolster limited supplies. Key Facts The new strategy recommends anyone with a confirmed or suspected exposure to monkeypox get vaccinated, expanding earlier rules limiting the shots to those with known exposures only. This includes people who have had close physical contact with someone diagnosed with monkeypox, people who know their sexual partner was diagnosed and “men who have sex with men who have recently had multiple sex partners in a venue where there was known to be monkeypox or in an area where monkeypox is spreading,” the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) said . HHS said it will make 56,000 doses of the Jynneos … [Read more...] about As Monkeypox Spreads, Here’s Who Should Get A Vaccine—And How
How to Do What You Love for a Living
Regular readers of this column know that I almost never write about my personal life. I figure this column isn't about me; it's about making readers more successful. However, my editor asked me to write about what made me passionate about my job, so here goes. I'm going to explain how my passion for writing led me to this, my dream job, and how the years I spent avoiding my dream job turned out to be essential to achieving it. I'll start with some background. I always knew I was supposed to be a writer. I wrote (dictated) my first story when I was four. By age eight, I was creating hand-drawn newspapers with stories about dinosaurs. At age 14, I bought my own printing press and began publishing my own newsletter. By high school, I was writing nonfiction at a college level (e.g., 35 pages of "Analysis of Marijuana Usage in Contemporary California") and writing almost readable pastiches of Kafka and Lovecraft. Whilst in college, I had my first short story … [Read more...] about How to Do What You Love for a Living

Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin “I recently got deleted off Instagram, again. I had about 4.1 million followers. So I get in a day what some of the biggest cannabis websites get in a month,” explains Thomas Araujo, better known as Dope As Yola, when asked what makes him (probably) the most popular cannabis content creator in the world. To understand how he got there, we need to go back a decade because, as they say, it takes 10 years to become an overnight celebrity. The Real Grinder Thomas “fell in love” with weed at a very young age, even though he recommends people wait until the legal age in their respective jurisdictions to commence their cannabis journey. He remembers first trying the herb the … [Read more...] about This Is (Probably) The Most Popular Cannabis Content Creator In The World: Meet Dope As Yola

Making Vitamins, People, and Gross Margins Beautiful
Fifteen years ago, Eric Ryan and Adam Lowry launched Method , an eco-friendly cleaning products company that emphasized beautiful packaging as much as sparkling sinks. In 2012, the business was acquired by Belgium-based Ecover. Ryan stayed on. Today, Ryan is introducing Olly , which applies the same design-centric approach to vitamins that Method did to soap. Olly ' s products come in gummy form and are named for benefits like Calm, Immunity, Sleep, and Beauty. For now they are available exclusively through Target. Ryan, whose Olly co-founder is marketing veteran Brad Harrington, spoke with Inc. about his sophomore venture. Where does the name Olly come from? Everybody in the category seemed to fall into two camps. Scientific-but-cold-sounding names like Centrum. Or folksy nature names: Nature ' s Garden or Nature ' s Bounty. We want our brand to be accessible, friendly, and simple. We thought, when you walk into a pharmacy, what ' s the name of the … [Read more...] about Making Vitamins, People, and Gross Margins Beautiful
