There’s a lot of conversation around the “ Great Resignation ” as employers are losing talent to other companies that boast higher pay, cool perks, flexible work, sign-on incentives, and professional growth opportunities. It’s an interesting phenomena, but we don’t speak enough to the other side of the coin, something called the “Great Regret” or the “Big Mistake”—where an employee leaves one company for another believing the grass to be greener, and it turns out to be, in fact, worse than where they left. advertisement advertisement Early in my career, I had a Great Regret moment, back in 2008, where I left a job for more money and what seemed to be an amazing opportunity. From day one of my new job, I immediately had negative, early indicators about what was to come. It was a terrible six months in a role punctuated with a culture of high turnover, low morale, scandals, and toxic leadership. I deeply regretted my decision to leave my prior company … [Read more...] about Ready to join the Great Resignation? Here’s how to avoid a disappointing job switch

Mindset Matters: A Psychotherapists Journey Through Mental Health, The Great Re-imagination, And What Leadership Needs To Know
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Throughout the last few years the world of work as we know it has been transforming at a rapid pace. The coronavirus pandemic offered an inflection point where daily business practices were forced to make radical changes given the constraints that had befallen them. Yet, in this time as we learn to live with Covid, and businesses are finding their way, new questions arise that are not only redefining work culture but the value of how we rethink mental health as a fundamental building block of business life. Millennials and Gen Z have certainly led the way in rethinking business as usual. At this moment people are beginning to reconsider their relationship to work, and what they need from an employer going forward. The media has dubbed this period “The Great Resignation” where there is a mass exodus of employees quitting their current jobs and searching for something with more flexibility. While there is certainly some … [Read more...] about Mindset Matters: A Psychotherapists Journey Through Mental Health, The Great Re-imagination, And What Leadership Needs To Know
Languedoc In Southern France: Quality Wines Minus The Prestige Means Great Value
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin The price of a wine is, to some extent, determined by supply and demand. But supply can be plentiful, and the prices still soar. I don’t have a problem with expensive wines. They are easy to avoid. The challenge for a wine lover lies in finding exceptional wines at a reasonable cost, wines where prestige plays a minor role and it’s all about great flavour and character. There are many of these wines around. But they are harder to find than the super-expensive ones. At the extensive wine fair Wine Paris in February, we met four of our favourites from the Languedoc region in southern France. These four producers are exceptional value for money. Domaine du Nouveau Monde, Languedoc Domaine L’Arbuselle, Faugères Domaine Rouanet Montcelebre, Minervois Domaine des Terres Georges, Minervois (All prices mentioned in the text are for purchases at the estates.) In an increasingly warming world, we can’t rely on trees as a climate change cure-all
When people talk about ways to slow climate change, they often mention trees , and for good reason. Forests take up a large amount of the planet-warming carbon dioxide that people put into the atmosphere when they burn fossil fuels. But will trees keep up that pace as global temperatures rise? With companies increasingly investing in forests as offsets , saying it cancels out their continuing greenhouse gas emissions, that’s a multibillion-dollar question. advertisement advertisement The results of two studies published in the journals Science and Ecology Letters on May 12, 2022— one focused on growth , the other on death —raise new questions about how much the world can rely on forests to store increasing amounts of carbon in a warming future. Ecologist William Anderegg , who was involved in both studies, explains why. What does the new research tell us about trees and their ability to store carbon? The future of forests is on a … [Read more...] about In an increasingly warming world, we can’t rely on trees as a climate change cure-all
Direk John ‘Sweet’ Lapus says goodbye to being a gay comedian
John Lapus My star as a gay comedian has already faded,” declared actor John “Sweet” Lapus, who added that he has learned to embrace being a film and TV director the moment he made this realization about his showbiz career. “I’ve learned to accept it. My friends, who are now network bosses and producers, kept urging me to pursue directing film and TV shows. I agree with them because they know what they’re talking about—being a gay comedian has a time limit. I can no longer play sidekick to the lead actress because she is most likely way younger than me now,” Sweet told reporters during the media gathering for the sitcom “Jose & Maria’s Bonggang Villa,” which he is directing for GMA 7. Other talents “For the record, I still accept job offers as an actor because my talent fee as one is way higher than what I earn as a director,” Sweet pointed out. “I’ve learned to embrace being a director … the more I do, the more blessings come my way. I’ve been doing it for three years … [Read more...] about Direk John ‘Sweet’ Lapus says goodbye to being a gay comedian
Some Traits That Make You a Good Entrepreneur Also Make You Susceptible to Addiction. These Strategies Can Help
In my line of business, which involves the sale of drug testing kits, I run into many a sad story about how addiction has ruined lives and caused an immense amount of grief among people who get hooked on any number of substances, especially opioids . And while you may think I am talking about people who were born into poverty and were down on their luck and looking for an escape (and I've heard those stories, too), I'm not. I'm talking about people who have lived privileged lives, earned college degrees, started successful practices and followed their entrepreneurial dream. David J. Linden, professor of neuroscience at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, says there is some evidence that the traits that make a good entrepreneur also make one susceptible to addiction. It can also be a rather lonely road entrepreneurs walk as they get their businesses off the ground and that, coupled with a constant fear of failure hanging over their heads, may also lead to … [Read more...] about Some Traits That Make You a Good Entrepreneur Also Make You Susceptible to Addiction. HIGHLIGHTS: Wisconsin Beats Northwestern 63-48, Badgers Clinch Double-Bye In The Big 10 Tournament
The Wisconsin Badgers secured a double-bye in the Big 10 tournament after a 63-48 Wednesday night win over Northwestern. While I don’t think anybody ever doubted who would win the game Wednesday night, college basketball has been off the rails this season. (RELATED: David Hookstead Is The True King In The North When It Comes To College Football) Despite a pretty pedestrian performance across the board for the Badgers , Northwestern was absolutely no match on any front as we cruised to a win. Now, we’re tied for first place in the Big 10, and we won’t have to play in the conference tournament until Friday after getting a double-bye. To say things turned around since a couple months ago would be the understatement of the year in college basketball. This New E-Scooter Can Get You Around Town On The Cheap
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Electric scooters may well provide a better car alternative for more people than electric bicycles — for a few reasons. First, they aren’t nearly as expensive. Secondly, many are foldable and can be easily stored. Third, they’re generally fairly lightweight – allowing people to carry them into their office, appointment or home for storage when not in use. Fourth, they’re more agile to use. In many cases, you can ride them right up to the front door of wherever you’re going and won’t need to lock them up. Fifth, the wheels will never go flat. And sixth, e-scooters may be safer, as you can probably use them on the sidewalk in your area – away from the bike and car lanes. Not sure about everyone else, but I often feel like a sitting – or is it rolling? - duck, when I’m riding my e-bike in the bike lane of a busy street. Being physically separated from the cars is a huge safety advantage, in my opinion. While I’m definitely not … [Read more...] about This New E-Scooter Can Get You Around Town On The Cheap
The Fisker Ronin Could Be The Coolest EV Yet
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Henrik Fisker is a legendary car designer, with the credit for some of the most beautiful vehicles ever including the BMW Z8, Aston Martin DB9 and Aston Martin V8 Vantage. His Karma design is stunning, although its production had difficulties and Fisker is no longer involved with the current version. But if the Karma brought concept-car looks from dreams to production reality, the recently teased Ronin is on another level. It could be the coolest EV yet. One thing woefully lacking in the EV world so far is a good sports convertible. Sure, the original Tesla Roadster was a soft top, and the forthcoming new Roadster will be too. But there have been precious few alternatives in between. There are cabrio versions of the electric Fiat 500 and Smart EQ fortwo , but neither is a sportscar. There have also been classic convertibles that have been switched to electric . But Fisker’s Ronin is a modern electric sports … [Read more...] about The Fisker Ronin Could Be The Coolest EV Yet
