Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Two of my favorite things are IMAX 70mm film projection and science-fiction movies so last Thursday was something of a red letter day when an email landed in my inbox making me aware of a science-fiction film festival at the London Science Museum this March (2023). The sci-fi film festival is offered to celebrate the museum’s exhibition, Science Fiction: Voyage to the Edge of Imagination , and a very good thing it is too. The Science Museum IMAX is the only venue in the country that features both digital dual-laser and 70mm film IMAX projectors, (the BFI IMAX has single laser and 70mm). It has taken its time getting back up and running showing commercial movies as part of its roster and I’m glad it’s now doing so. The festival offers a range of classic sci-fi films alongside special guest speakers and Q&As with key people from the films- but if you don’t already know about it, you’ll need to hurry up and grab some … [Read more...] about Science-Fiction Film Festival Lands At London Science Museum In IMAX 70mm Format

Happy Valentine’s Day Senator Klobuchar: Bruce Springsteen’s Ticket Prices For His February 14th Show Are Crashing
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Just this week the Senate Judiciary Committee posted an ominous message to Ticketmaster regarding their upcoming sale of tickets for Beyoncé. They took to Twitter to say “ We’re watching @Ticketmaster. ” Since when does the legislative branch of government communicate in the same cadence as Tony Soprano? It is as if the Senators don’t believe the free market works. Perhaps that makes sense in today’s Washington D.C. where George Santos inexplicably remains a sitting member of Congress and a certain ex-President is campaigning on a platform that his 2020 election “victory” was stolen. In the land of reality, tickets trade like any items of value. The prices move up and down based upon supply and demand. Those in the know understand that Bruce Springsteen is almost universally regarded as a stellar artist and performer. Along with that reputation is the lesser known truth that demand for his tickets is always high in New … [Read more...] about Happy Valentine’s Day Senator Klobuchar: Bruce Springsteen’s Ticket Prices For His February 14th Show Are Crashing
What Does Trump Attorney General Nominee William Barr Think of Marijuana?
President Donald Trump’s nominee for attorney general fielded questions from the Senate Judiciary Committee on January 15. A 22-member committee grilled William Barr for over seven hours, asking for his thoughts on a number of issues facing the government. His comments about marijuana during his confirmation hearing caused the ETFMG Alternative Harvest ETF ( MJ ) to fall over 3%. Prominent marijuana producers like Cronos Group Inc. ( CRON ) and Canopy Growth Corp. ( CGC ) ended the day lower. Relief for Marijuana States If Barr is confirmed as the successor to Matthew Whitaker, the former Attorney General to George H.W. Bush said his Justice Department will “not go after” marijuana companies that operate in states where the drug has been legalized. The nominee said he disagreed with former Attorney General Jeff Sessions’ decision to rescind the Cole Memorandum in January 2018. MC Explains | What are Artificial Intelligence ethics?

Gaming in 2022: A year in review
People trying out different games at The Arena, Comic-Con, Bengaluru The year 2022 was a weird year for gaming. The industry continued to feel the lingering effects of the 2020 Covid-19 pandemic with slower hardware sales and major delays for upcoming AAA games. Here is a look at some of the gaming highlights of 2022. More buggy launches Unfortunately, major AAA releases continued the trend of messy launches with games like Calisto Protocol or Gotham Knights. The year began with the dullest of thuds in Babylon's Fall, a half-baked unfinished co-op experience that showed Square Enix has learned nothing from its previous live service disasters. What hurt even more is that it was developed by industry darlings Platinum Games. Electronic Arts continued to release yearly installments in the FIFA franchise, and like every year, it was mocked but still sold in the millions. Thankfully, EA no longer holds the license to FIFA anymore. Read More Unfortunately, EA … [Read more...] about Gaming in 2022: A year in review

Third-Party Cookies Are Over. These New Strategies Help Brands Win Over Customers
It's harder than ever to find customers you've yet to meet. At least, in the digital age: After Apple's more stringent privacy restrictions rolled out in its iOS 14.5 update in the summer of 2021, many brands scrambled to update and improve their marketing strategies. Because Apple's update blocked the use of third-party cookies--the software that has long been used by advertisers to track and target new customers based on their data--businesses found that paid social advertising campaigns, especially those on Facebook and Instagram, dramatically increased in cost and decreased in results . Increased privacy restrictions haven't quite eliminated paid social as a customer acquisition strategy, but they have made it more difficult to use that strategy successfully. "Ad creative has started to matter a lot more, given that you're no longer able to leverage [Facebook's] powerful platform data to target that niche audience that was really likely to purchase your product," … [Read more...] about Third-Party Cookies Are Over. STEVE HANKE And CALEB HOFMANN: The Fed Is Asleep At The Wheel And Americans Are Feeling The Consequences
The Federal Open Market Committee will meet on Wednesday, Feb. 1, to determine the direction of U.S. monetary policy. What will the Fed do? Since March 2022, it has already raised the fed funds rate by 4.25 percentage points, the largest one-year increase in four decades. When it comes to speculation over the direction of the fed funds rate, the financial press is filled with musings from Fed watchers and assorted wags. That is just background “noise.” (RELATED: EJ ANTONI: Wokeness Is Slowly Hollowing Out The Fed) There is only one objective measure of where the fed funds rate is heading — in other words, the “signal,” rather than the “noise.” It’s the Chicago Mercantile Exchange FedWatch Tool , which translates the prices of trades on fed funds futures contracts (read: market prices) to put a probability on where the fed funds rate will go. As Friedrich Hayek taught us long ago in his classic 1945 article, “ The Use of Knowledge in Society ,” an article that landed him … [Read more...] about STEVE HANKE And CALEB HOFMANN: The Fed Is Asleep At The Wheel And Americans Are Feeling The Consequences
How Businesses Can Use AI To Improve Their Content Strategy In 2023
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Online content is meant to inspire, engage and inform. More importantly, its goal is to put a business on its target audience’s radar. Even if an informative blog post doesn’t immediately convert readers into customers, the information stays in the back of their minds. Consumers will see the company as a helpful resource, perhaps prompting them to consider its offerings down the road. While digital content might be a good way for companies to reach increasingly savvy audiences, producing it takes significant effort. Leaders Are Restoring Trust In Healthcare—But How?
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin As healthcare systems face increasing societal scrutiny and criticism, restoring trust is critical to improving public health. According to a study , if mistrust goes unchecked, it can erode physician-patient relationships and effectuate poorer patient outcomes and prevalent burnout among doctors. Healthcare leaders have taken steps to address this issue. For example, many organizations now utilize customer experience metrics to measure the quality and trustworthiness of their services. But has it made a difference? The 2022 Edelman Trust Barometer concluded that public trust in healthcare systems is, in fact, declining. This is problematic for a variety of reasons. First, patients may be less likely to seek medical help if they distrust the system. Second, physicians may be discouraged from providing care due to negative public opinion. Disparities in how healthcare systems treated different races, genders, and … [Read more...] about Leaders Are Restoring Trust In Healthcare—But How?
