Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin The Cake Boss made sure this Super Bowl dessert would be sweet for fans of both teams. In my last post , I wrote about how impressed I was with Indianapolis as a tourist city and as a host for what had to be the smoothest, best run Super Bowl imaginable. In a week filled with parties, big name concerts and all sorts of VIP events, the Taste of the NFL and its Party With A Purpose took the cake - except in this case the cake was a huge depiction of a football field complete with edible Eli Manning and Tom Brady jerseys and even the Vince Lombardi Trophy. The thing that makes this event so notable is that it is not new and not specific to any host city - it has been held for 21 straight years of Super Bowls, and will be held again next year (2013) in New Orleans, and after that in New York, and then Phoenix. My suggestion? Buy a ticket. The cool thing is you don’t have to be going to the game, which for most … [Read more...] about Super Bowl’s “Taste Of the NFL” – The Best Food Event You Never Heard Of

Super Bowl XLVI’s Real Winner? Indianapolis!
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin The site of this year's Super Bowl was within walking distance of many hotels and all of downtown ... [+] Indy. Sunday’s Super Bowl was the most watched television event in American history, tuned into by nearly half of all households and at peak time, more than 117,000,000 viewers. Ad rates were $3.5 million per 30 second spot, and while viewers debated who was better, an overweight Volkswagen obsessed dog or Clint Eastwood, the real beneficiary of all that airtime and all those viewers was the city of Indianapolis. “Ten years from now, I think we will look back on this one single day as the tipping point in tourism and perception for the city,” said Chris Gahl, Vice President of Marketing for the Indianapolis Convention and Visitors Association. Several years ago when the city decided to go for the 2011 Game (it ended up with 2012), the bid process required $25 million in non-taxpayer funds, and several … [Read more...] about Super Bowl XLVI’s Real Winner? Ocean warmth, seaweed scarcity threaten Fiji’s fisherwomen’s livelihoods
Villagers harvest edible seaweed, sea snails and other food sources during low tide next to Serua Village, Fiji, July 14, 2022. REUTERS FILE PHOTO SUVA, Fiji — Karen Vusisa has been struggling to find a decent catch of a favorite Fijian edible seaweed, amid concerns that ocean temperatures have hit harvests and are threatening livelihoods of fisherwomen like her. Like many others, Vusisa, 52, is managing to collect only about half as much of the seaweed, nama, as she once did. She must hunt for it over wider areas, spending more time at sea. “We are struggling to find some spot for a lot of nama,” Sera Baleisasa, another Fijian fisherwoman, told Reuters. Nama, found mostly in the waters off Fiji, resembles small green grapes. It is part of the Pacific island nation’s daily diet and usually served soaked in coconut milk and added to salads. It is also crucial for the livelihoods of hundreds of fisherwomen, who earn about $10 to $20 for a bag weighing 10 kg (22 lb.). China, Taipei battle over projecting soft-power through Mandarin
US Speaker of the House of Representatives Nancy Pelosi (left) with Taiwan President Tsai Ing-wen. (Image: AP) As tension rises in the Taiwan Strait following China’s threatening live-fire drills in the wake of Nancy Pelosi’s visit, a tussle between Taiwan and the mainland to influence the world through Mandarin learning centres has come back in focus. Mandarin is spoken widely on both sides of the Taiwan Strait. But as Sino-American relations became strained over trade and technology in the past few years, Washington made a conscious effort to curb Chinese cultural activities in the United States and encouraged Taiwan to fill that space, especially for learning Mandarin. Under Donald Trump’s presidency, the US Congress in 2018 passed a bill to cut funding for Chinese language and culture programmes offered by Confucius institutes at universities that host them. The US State Department labelled the institutes `foreign missions’ of the People’s Republic of China, and part … [Read more...] about China, Taipei battle over projecting soft-power through Mandarin
How This Entrepreneur Built the Hottest Plush Startup in Years
After 20 years of being in business, this is what I know for sure: Making customer service a priority is one of your best forms of protection, hands down. What does putting your customer first look like in practice? Asking them about their experience. Answering their questions in a timely manner. Delivering on your promises. Being consistent, truthful, and transparent. Developing products and services that actually solve problems, inspire joy, and then continuing to improve on the experience. Treating each and every person who engages with your brand like a friend. Refusing to settle. Taking responsibility for your mistakes and learning from them. Never forget: Establishing trust takes time, and can be lost in an instant. To build a successful business today, you must truly care about your customer. Few entrepreneurs I know embody this philosophy more wholeheartedly than Marissa Louie , CEO and chief designer of the hit magnetic stuffed animals, Animoodles . The … [Read more...] about How This Entrepreneur Built the Hottest Plush Startup in Years
Machine Gun Kelly’s Tour Bus Defaced With A Penis And A Homophobic Slur
One of Machine Gun Kelly’s tour buses was vandalized with spray-paint depicting a penis and homophobic slur early Thursday morning. The star made a stop in Nebraska and was notified that someone had written “RAP DEVIL F****T” and painted the image of a penis ejaculating along the side of the vehicle, according to TMZ. Machine Gun Kelly took to social media to mock the people responsible for the stunt. The rapper wasted no time telling his 9.7 million Instagram followers exactly what he thought of the unwelcome graffiti. “You’re so dumb. You spray-painted a bus thinking it was my bus,” he said sarcastically. “Wrong bus you f*cking idiot,” he said, as he clarified that this wasn’t even the bus he was personally using. “Do the first part of the crime right. 2nd off… I was by the buses ’till 4:30 in the morning which means you waited till 5 a.m. to spray-paint a dick,” Machine Gun Kelly said, before breaking out in laughter. He went on to drag the efforts of those who … [Read more...] about Machine Gun Kelly’s Tour Bus Defaced With A Penis And A Homophobic Slur
Russia Threatens, EU Reduces, US Industry Helps To Untangle The Natural Gas War In Europe.
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Both oil and gas exported from Russia bring in significant revenue that can be used to support the Russian war in Ukraine. But the export revenue from oil sales is much greate r than export revenue from gas sales. If the West stops buying oil this really hurts Russia – more than if the West stopped buying gas. Back in May, the EU agreed to ban all Russian oil imports by the end of 2022, at least those that are delivered by sea. That was a good move. Russia threatens to cut gas supplies to the European Union. Russia has realized that cutting natural gas doesn’t affect their export revenue (like oil does) but it affects the economies of EU countries a lot more. Russia supplied the EU with 40% of its gas last year , with Germany, Italy, and Netherlands the top three importers in actual volumes of gas. Germany had imported more than 50% of its gas from Russia via the Nord Stream 1 pipeline. By the end of June, … [Read more...] about Russia Threatens, EU Reduces, US Industry Helps To Untangle The Natural Gas War In Europe.
