Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Federal statutes in the U.S. Code and agency rules in the Code of Federal Regulations are easy to locate online. This is not the case , however, for the thousands of sub-regulatory guidance documents and “interpretative rules,” notices, bulletins, circulars, memoranda and so forth . But then again, these were never easy to locate offline either. Guidance documents are ostensibly non-binding, meant to inform or provide clarity, but guidance can be inapprorpriately leveraged to influence policy and public behavior, according to the Administrative Conference of the United States . This is a concern especially in presidential administrations inclined to deploy the “pen and phone,” as Obama did; or to “act without Congress,” as Biden’s spokespeople often declare he can do. So it was a good thing back in 2019 when Donald Trump issued “ Promoting the Rule of Law through Improved Agency Guidance Documents ” … [Read more...] about Good News On Red Tape? When less tangible investments are failing, people tend to put their money into gold which is widely accepted as a foundation for capitalist economies. Three gold and jewellery companies made the top five revenue list in 2021. Petroleum and automotive companies filled out the rest of the top 10 list, with retailer CP All sneaking into the top 10. To attract and retain talent, work on ‘employer brand’
Small and medium businesses (SMEs) can improve employee retention and reduce recruitment costs by building an “employer brand”. SMEs with good employer branding see 20 percent revenue growth as compared to 8 percent in those with poor employer branding. An employer brand is more than just goodwill or reputation. Every business has a branding whether it is built consciously or not. The products and services, quality, news about its leaders and so on build an image in the minds of customers, suppliers, and current and future employees. What goodwill and corporate brands are to reputation and perception, employer branding is to potential job seekers. How are you perceived as an employer is what the employer branding seeks to address. SMEs face a serious challenge in finding, engaging and retaining talent. China warns US against sailing warships through Taiwan strait
Qin Gang - A + A WASHINGTON/HONG KONG (Aug 17): China called on the US to refrain from sailing naval vessels through the Taiwan Strait, saying Beijing would take further action in the wake of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s visit to Taipei. China’s ambassador to Washington, Qin Gang, said on Tuesday that China viewed such Taiwan transits as an escalation by the US and an effort to support the “separatist” government in Taipei. He delivered the warning after Senator Edward Markey, a Massachusetts Democrat, wrapped up the second trip to the island in less than two weeks by a US congressional delegation. “The US side has done too much and going too far in this region,” Qin said in response to a question about potential naval patrols. “I do call on our American colleagues to refrain, to exercise restraint, not to do anything to escalate the tension. So if there’s any moves damaging China’s territorial integrity and sovereignty, so China will respond. China will … [Read more...] about China warns US against sailing warships through Taiwan strait
US SPAC king goes silent with his empire shrivelling
Chamath Palihapitiya - A + A NEW YORK (Aug 17): The news came with little fanfare. It was late on a sleepy summer afternoon last week, and few on Wall Street even seemed to notice the pair of filings when they hit the Securities and Exchange Commission's (SEC) website. In terse, boilerplate language, the documents stated that two special-purpose acquisition companies (SPACs) launched by Chamath Palihapitiya needed to push back the deadlines they had set to make acquisitions. Palihapitiya was in no mood to trumpet the news. There were no tweets, no interviews, none of the braggadocio that came with so many of his big SPAC deals, back when the market was the hot new thing in finance, a sure-fire, money-minting machine, and Palihapitiya was its undisputed king. But if those euphoric moments two years ago represented the peak of SPAC frenzy — a phenomenon created out of the same ingredients (unprecedented monetary and fiscal stimulus) that gave us meme stocks and … [Read more...] about US SPAC king goes silent with his empire shrivelling
