MANILA—President Rodrigo Duterte on Saturday told his critics not to use God's name in vain against him, citing the separation of Church and State. In a speech in Davao City, Duterte said Filipinos can criticize him "with all [their] heart's content" but said those in religious sects must not involve God. "Pero when you are a religious, you have to be something of a neutral dito sa faith mo and the government. Because it is really the concept of a Republican system that there is a separation of Church and State. So, when you criticize me, do not use the platform of God," he said. "Do not do it, do not take God’s name in vain because pag-resbak ko, makasali ko na 'yung Panginoong Diyos. It’s fundamental, it’s almost basic. There is really a clear cut between religion and governance. You cannot use God to criticize me." Tension has been high between Duterte and the Catholic hierarchy and other Christian groups of late after the President called God … [Read more...] about Duterte: ‘You cannot use God to criticize me’
By Alan Baldwin SILVERSTONE, England (Reuters) – Four times world champion Lewis Hamilton says Formula One is not worth dying for but he feels ‘God has his hand over me’ when risking all on the racetrack. In a podcast interview published by Formula One on Wednesday, the Mercedes driver discussed the strength of his faith — along with a wide selection of topics ranging from his hatred of school and his dyslexia to the frozen sperm and $700-a-day modelling career of his pet bulldog Roscoe. Formula One, said the 33-year-old who will be favourite for a fifth British Grand Prix win in a row this weekend, had given him a life and a purpose but had also ‘broken’ him. “It’s broken me and built me, broken me and built me,” explained Hamilton. “When you go through it, you put so much into it, it breaks your heart and kills you when you fail, when you stumble, when everyone’s watching when you stumble,” he said. “But … [Read more...] about Hamilton feels the hand of God over him

Pinoy netizens are debating about God and religion nowadays. Actually, this isn't new. In fact, in the late 1800s Pinoys were bolder and funnier when it came to topics like these. I'm reminded of our Spanish colonial history, when mestizos and natives would be passionate in using reason, satire and humor to debate a lot about social and political issues. Check out Marcelo H. del Pilar, Jose Rizal and many of our old school, thought leaders and you'll actually understand our President Duterte more. Personally, I prefer to be respectful, apolitical and neutral, but I make sure to be truthful of the real world and of what's happening. Actually, if one advances into "higher forms" of economics, one gets to understand it more from a spiritual or godly point of view. Economics of the real world of life becomes a more intrinsically soulful but empirically validating point of view. They say that Adam Smith was the one who introduced the invisible hand and free … [Read more...] about OPINION: The gods must be crazy???
MANILA—Some Filipinos and foreigners claiming to be members of a local conservative religious organization heckled lesbians, gays, bisexuals and transsexuals who attended a march against discrimination. Placards that read, “It’s not okay to be gay” and “God will judge you” were raised alongside rainbow-colored floats and flaglets minutes before the march kicked off at the Marikina Sports Center. “This lady is a sinner! Be careful she might rape you,” a Caucasian man announced via a megaphone as he stood before 3 women who held rainbow flaglets and donned unicorn headbands. “Repent, you sinners, and God will forgive you!” a Filipino anti-gay protester told a group of LGBT members who were aboard a make-shift float decorated with colorful balloons. The men who scorned LGBT members during the Pride March refused to give their names to ABS-CBN News. The anti-queer group dispersed after its members were ignored by the thousands of … [Read more...] about ‘Repent to God’: Hecklers crash Pride March in Marikina
