Scotland looks for human traffickers after Vietnamese victim escapes

The 21-year-old unnamed woman approached a passerby in Stirlingshire in central Scotland in distress after her escape two weeks ago, the Glasgow-based Daily Record reported Monday. She told police that she managed to escape from her captors in an unspecified location, before making her way to the town. Police suspected that the woman might have come from north of Stirlingshire, possibly the rural Tayside area. "At the moment, we are continuing to liaise with the young woman as to her ordeal and try to establish a more definitive location as to where she has fled from,” inspector Nigel Thacker was quoted as saying. Glasgow top of UK city list for growth in hotel industry
0 Have your say The hotel sector in Glasgow is growing faster than in any other UK city, as the average cost for an overnight stay climbed 7.5 per cent in the first half of the year. Accountancy firm PwC’s latest hotels forecast reported the average daily rate in Scotland’s largest city rose to £73.41 from £68.31 in the past six months.Glasgow’s revenue per available room (revPAR), calculated by multiplying the average achieved room rate by the average annual room occupancy rate, grew 8.2 per cent to £58.08, eight times the pace of growth in the UK overall.By contrast, revPAR in Edinburgh fell 1.6 per cent to £73.68, which the report attributed to an influx of new rooms and increased competition from serviced apartments.Despite this, the Scottish capital remains the most expensive city outside of London for an overnight hotel stay at an average daily rate of £93.92.The ongoing recovery in the oil and gas sector helped … [Read more...] about Glasgow top of UK city list for growth in hotel industry
Passengers on a United flight saw their pilot taking a nap in the cabin — here’s why that’s not a big deal
Passengers on a United Airlines flight from Newark to Glasgow, Scotland said they saw their pilot napping in the cabin during the flight. Despite photos published in a Scottish newspaper going viral, this is actually standard practice – it’s a federally-mandated safety measure. Pilots on longer flights, including trans-Atlantic routes, are required to take a mid-flight rest period. On some larger planes, pilots have access to a separate rest area. On smaller aircraft, pilots rest in a reserved first class or business class seat. On those flights, there’s always at least one extra pilot on board so when one takes a rest, there are still always two pilots in the cockpit. The Brighton Argus recorded the lowest circulation decline among regional daily newspapers over the first six months of 2018, new ABC figures show.
