Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin While federal agencies and the US military have rightly taken action to restrict the use of technology from Chinese government entities, U.S. states haven’t addressed this vulnerability with the same vigor. In October 2021, a China Tech Threat report found 40 states continue to use equipment from Chinese government owned Lenovo and Lexmark, despite federal security restrictions against these companies. The Associated Press reported that at the Chinese government hacked at least six state governments last year. As cybersecurity expert Joe Steinberg rejoined , “Six states know that they were breached by Chinese spies; that means 44 states don’t yet know they’ve been breached.” While some post-purchase measures can secure systems from software hacks, hardware-based hacks are essentially impossible to thwart because backchannels and backdoors are built into hardware. As such, the US adopted rip and replace policies for … [Read more...] about Four Ways The 50 States Can Defend Themselves From Chinese Tech Threats

TikTok plans big push into gaming, conducting tests in Vietnam, sources say
HONG KONG/HANOI: TikTok has been conducting tests so users can play games on its video-sharing app in Vietnam, part of plans for a major push into gaming, four people familiar with the matter said. Featuring games on its platform would boost advertising revenue as well as the amount of time users spend on the app – one of the world's most popular with more than 1 billion monthly active users. Boasting a tech-savvy population with 70% of its citizens under the age of 35, Vietnam is an attractive market for social media platforms such as TikTok, Meta Platforms Inc’s Facebook and Alphabet Inc’s YouTube and Google. TikTok, which is owned by China's ByteDance, also plans to roll out gaming more widely in South-East Asia, the people said. That move could come as early as the third quarter, said two of them. The sources declined to be identified as the information has yet to be publicly disclosed. A TikTok representative said the company has tested bringing HTML5 games, a common … [Read more...] about TikTok plans big push into gaming, conducting tests in Vietnam, sources say
Qualcomm Supercharges Its Flagship Snapdragon Processor And Unveils Premium Mobile Gaming Chip
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Qualcomm just announced some new updates to its processor line-up that target a couple of key market segments. The freshly minted Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 targets top-tier, premium Android devices, while the Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 focuses on more mainstream, gaming-centric devices. The existing Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 already powers virtually all of the current-generation, flagship Android devices in the U.S. and other regions around the globe. The simple “+” addendum to its branding may suggest that the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 is nothing more than a speed-bump, but that couldn’t be further from the truth. Yes, the two chips share the same architecture and feature set, but the new Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 is manufactured on a different chip manufacturing process node, that’s optimized for both higher speeds and increased power efficiency. Huawei’s Revolutionary Watch D Blood Pressure Watch May Come To The West
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Huawei announced the Watch D with wrist-based blood pressure monitoring for the Chinese market in 2021 but there are signs it may come to other countries. The Huawei Watch D has been added to Huawei’s English-language website, and a link to its page was tweeted out by the company’s global Twitter account . While Huawei has not confirmed which territories will get the Watch D, or when, this online presence suggests the watch will come to selected European markets at the very least. Such cursory information only merits further attention because the Huawei Watch D is such an unusual device. MORE FROM FORBES Huawei's Watch D Has A More Advanced Health Feature Than The Apple Watch Series 7 By Andrew Williams It is effectively a miniaturized version of a traditional blood pressure monitoring cuff. Huawei’s Watch D Has A More Advanced Health Feature Than The Apple Watch Series 7
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Last month I wrote about the Huawei Watch D , a wearable teased as having a blood pressure monitoring feature. It has now been officially announced. In that previous story I suggested it looked similar to Huawei’s cheaper watches, and that it may be a fairly low-cost wearable that uses existing — and slightly shaky — ways to work out blood pressure from your wrist. That take was way off the truth. Huawei has only announced the Watch D for the Chinese market at present, but in a currency conversion its cost works out at around $70. The Huawei Watch D is also far more ambitious than I imagined. It effectively shrinks the technology of a blood pressure cuff into a watch. Tiny air pumps inflate airbags inside the strap. Pressure sensors and a pressure feedback controls let the Watch D calculate the wearer’s blood pressure to a claimed accuracy of ± 3mmHg. This is similar to some of the mid-range consumer-grade … [Read more...] about Huawei’s Watch D Has A More Advanced Health Feature Than The Apple Watch Series 7

Purpose-built gaming smartphones are also popular amongst enthusiast mobile gamers, not only for their gaming-centric features, but because they are vastly more versatile than one-trick-pony portable game consoles. Ubisoft could be the next big video game acquisition, but it’s hardly a sure thing
Consolidation in the video game industry hasn’t been this robust for over a decade. And while rumors are swirling about plenty of potential next targets, no company is being talked about as frequently as Ubisoft. advertisement advertisement The gossip mill makes a lot of sense. Ubisoft’s stock is well off of its 52-week high, down 30% from the peaks it hit last May, and it’s trading for less than half of what it did in July 2018. The game publisher also has a rich catalog of O&O franchises including Assassin’s Creed, the Rabbids, Prince of Persia, and Watch Dogs , as well as locked-in licensing deals with heavyweights like Tom Clancy and South Park —all of which make it an attractive addition to any publisher’s stable. Given the price at which other publishers have been selling— $69 billion for Activision-Blizzard , $12.7 billion for Zynga , and $3.6 billion for Bungie —Ubisoft would likely … [Read more...] about Ubisoft could be the next big video game acquisition, but it’s hardly a sure thing
SEA Games: PH upset by Cambodia in men’s volleyball, faces must-win vs Thais
Photo from PNVF MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine men’s volleyball team was stunned by a vastly-improved Cambodia side, 21-25, 26-24, 28-30, 27-29, starting off on the wrong foot in the 31st Southeast Asian Games on Saturday at Quang Ninh Gymnasium in Vietnam. The Cambodians, who lost to the Filipino spikers and got eliminated in the preliminary round of the 2019 SEA Games, pounced on the lethargic start of the silver medalists and displayed nerves of steel in their neck-and-neck encounters in the last three sets to earn their first victory in Pool B. Bryan Bagunas and Marck Espejo, who were fresh from their stints in Japan V.League, carried the cudgels of the men’s national team, while Jau Umandal was also instrumental but their costly errors took a toll on their squad as Cambodia nailed the timely hits in the crucial moments of the last two sets. The Philippines is on the brink of elimination in the three-team Pool B, needing to beat Thailand on Monday to advance to the … [Read more...] about SEA Games: PH upset by Cambodia in men’s volleyball, faces must-win vs Thais
