0 Have your say The Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH) has elected Andrew Sharman, who hails from the Scottish Borders, as its future president. Sharman will take up the role at the global professional body, subject to confirmation at its annual general meeting, on 18 September. He is set to become president in September 2019.The president-elect is a former chair of the organisation’s Edinburgh branch and founded the Scottish Borders Safety Forum in Kelso in the late 1990s.Sharman, who is now based in Switzerland, used to live in Jedburgh and still has a Scottish home, in Innerleithen.He said: “I tipped a bucket of acid over myself while I was working as a process engineer, and that really sparked my interest in workplace safety and health.“Over the past 20 years, I have been part of the Edinburgh branch executive committee, including a term as chair, held positions on the IOSH board of trustees and more recently the … [Read more...] about Borders man to take up presidency of professional body

AICTE chairman stresses on new initiatives to encourage innovation
KOLKATA: All India Council for Technical Education Chairman Anil Sahasrabudhe has stressed on the congregation of the new initiatives of AICTE and Indian National Academy of Engineers (INAE) to encourage innovation. Sahasrabudhe was speaking on the Centre's move to encourage innovation at the 2nd Indian National Academy of Engineers Youth conclave at the IIT Kharagpur yesterday. He said important schemes have been initiated by AICTE, the national-level council for technical education in the country, to improve laboratory condition of institutions while distinguished fellows can now visit other centres for a full semester and claim reimbursement. The research fellows will also be provided travel grant for presenting their research paper at conferences, he said.
