The White House’s Release Of ‘Accessible’ DIY Covid Tests Prove Smartphone Tech Goes Only So Far
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin CNN’s Maegan Vazquez and Donald Judd reported this week the Biden administration has announced at-home Covid testing kits which are purportedly accessible to Blind and low vision Americans. The tests use a companion app, available on iOS and Android, that functions similarly to Apple’s VoiceOver or Google’s TalkBack screen reader. The new tests are meant to help those, like myself, who cannot read the test’s instructions and/or results well, if at all. Alternatively, members of the Blind and low vision community could use a service like the Apple Design Award-winning Be My Eyes . Be My Eyes pairs sighted volunteers with visually impaired people to assist them with understanding inaccessible printed labels such as the expiration date on a carton of milk or, in this case, the directions on how to administer a do-it-yourself Covid test. “We developed this plan in close partnership with members of the disability … [Read more...] about The White House’s Release Of ‘Accessible’ DIY Covid Tests Prove Smartphone Tech Goes Only So Far

All GM EVs Add Plug And Charge Capability
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin No matter what you may think of Tesla TSLA and its controversial CEO, it still does at least one thing better than any other company in the EV space. The Tesla charging experience remains head and shoulders above the rest of the industry. It’s simple to use and mostly very reliable. As General Motors GM begins the rollout of a whole range of new EVs, it is trying to tackle the easy charging part with its own implementation of Plug & Charge capability. As the name suggests, Plug & Charge is meant to make the use of public chargers brain dead simple. Just plug a cable into an EV and it magically starts flowing electrons into the battery. There is an industry standard called ISO 15118 which defines vehicle to grid communication protocols. Part of this standard is Plug&Charge. When a vehicle is connected to a charger, they shake hands, the vehicle is authenticated including payment information and the … [Read more...] about All GM EVs Add Plug And Charge Capability
Thailand is open NOW – masks off, bars open until 2am
Thailand is open for business. The whole country is now a ‘green’ zone, allowing a full-scale resumption of business and activities with even the Thailand Pass being dropped next Friday. It’s about as ‘back to normal’ as it can be at this time. Decisions made by the CCSA on June 17 were put into effect yesterday after being published in the Royal Gazette, including the re-establishment of old closing times for nightlife and the removal of mask requirements (in open spaces). Face masks will still be required in government buildings and public transport, including the BTS, MRT lines and buses. Private shops or offices may also require the wearing of a mask, at their discretion, at this time. It is still a requirement at Thai airports and on domestic flights, for now. But, otherwise, wearing a face mask will be a voluntary situation. Then from next Friday the Thailand Pass will no longer be required for anyone entering Thailand from overseas. That also spells the end of the … [Read more...] about Thailand is open NOW – masks off, bars open until 2am
