Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin About twenty-five years ago, Harvard Business School Professor Clayton Christensen coined the term “disruptive innovation.” I worked with Clay for many years building his consulting practice, and I can tell you that he had no idea the concept would take off as it did. Nor did he suspect that interpretations of the concept would become so mangled. It was one of his regrets that he didn’t call disruptive innovation by a more precise name that might preclude it from being stretched – in common parlance – to cover almost anything. As Clay laid it out and proved through extraordinarily detailed research, disruptive innovation occurs when a new offering caters to an overlooked customer segment through providing greater accessibility – which might come in forms such as low price, ease of learning, extreme convenience, and so on. Incumbents usually neglect these offerings because they aren’t as financially appealing (at first!) as … [Read more...] about Three Disciplines For Achieving Disruptive Innovation Through Costovation

Remote meetings have overtaken our calendars. Here are 3 ways to home in on the most necessary ones
Meetings get a bad rap. However, their lousy reputations aren’t unwarranted since most people consider meetings a waste of time alongside stoking a lack of motivation and energy-sapping feelings. According to these sentiments, most meetings are terrible, and they’re getting more time-consuming and even less liked. advertisement advertisement If you’re a blatant opponent of meetings, you are not alone. A study by Atlassian found U.S. businesses waste $37 billion in salary costs for unnecessary meetings, and the average person attends a whopping 62 meetings per month. Research by Otter.ai found 70% of employees experienced a 70% increase in meetings when remote work was introduced. Working from home is great, but the downside may be even more meetings. In addition, according to data from LiveCareer , 36% of workers spend 4 to 7 hours per week in meetings, 32% spent 7 to 10 hours per week in meetings, and 39% said their meetings were getting … [Read more...] about Remote meetings have overtaken our calendars. Why over-the-counter hearing aids could be the next tech bonanza
By mid-October, the hearing aid industry will be fully in the throes of a revolution—one that’s been a long time coming. And it could open up a new, lucrative area for tech companies and be a real boon to consumers, too. advertisement advertisement On Tuesday, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) announced it would let some hearing aids be sold over-the-counter for the first time, a move that will make the assistance devices much more widely available and, in all likelihood, significantly cheaper. It’s a move that has been increasingly important, as hearing loss is expected to rise dramatically in the coming decades. The World Health Organization (WHO) warns that by 2030, nearly 630 million people worldwide will have a hearing disability. By 2050, that could jump to 900 million, in part because of regular exposure to loud sounds at work and in people’s personal lives (such as listening to music in earphones). Currently, 15% of … [Read more...] about Why over-the-counter hearing aids could be the next tech bonanza
Crypto ads starring Matt Damon, Tom Brady vanish from television
- A + A (Aug 18): Matt Damon’s pitch to invest in crypto has disappeared from US television sets. Same goes for glitzy commercials starring LeBron James and Tom Brady. The drop in national TV marketing by the industry in the US has coincided with the selloff in Bitcoin and other crypto assets, according to the TV-ad measurement company ISpot.tv Inc., which tracks the spots. Damon’s commercial for Crypto.com, which ends with him uttering “fortune favors the brave,” last aired in February during the Super Bowl. The four-month national campaign cost an estimated US$65 million, according to ISpot, exceeding the outlays by others in investment services, including giants such as Fidelity and Vanguard, over the same stretch. “Ad sellers shouldn’t expect growth in this vertical the remainder of the year due to the crash in crypto valuations and emerging allegations of fraud among companies in the crypto market,” said Eric Haggstrom, director of business intelligence at … [Read more...] about Crypto ads starring Matt Damon, Tom Brady vanish from television
