PHUKET: Police are searching for a team of thieves that made off with more than 30 mobile phones and about 10,000 baht in cash early Saturday morning. The thieves created a key for the shop shutter of Sapum Mobile on Thepkasattri Road in order to break in. However, they were unable to access the more expensive mobile devices, such as Samsung Galaxies and iPhones, because they are kept in a separate safe, explained Maj Sakol Krainara of Phuket City Police. “The thieves made off with cash and devices worth a combined 70,000 baht. However, we do have CCTV images of the thieves, so we are doing our best to track them down,” said Maj Sakol. “We have collected evidence from the shop, as well as finger prints.” Shop owner Udon Saensip suspects that the thieves had scouted out the place ahead of time and knew that nobody was there at night, added Maj Sakol. — Kritsada Mueanhawong Get more from The Thaiger FREE APP: ANDROID or iOS | HAVE YOUR SAY FORUM | … [Read more...] about Mobile phone thieves knock over Phuket shop

(Photo by Reuters) - A + A SHANGHAI/BEIJING (May 18): Health authorities in Shanghai face huge pressure to keep Covid-19 at bay the longer the city goes without a new community infection with residents counting down the days until June 1 and the end of their hated lockdown. Despite no new cases, authorities are not lifting the lockdown immediately, instead gradually easing restrictions until June 1, with some shops allowed to open this week and public transport expected to partly resume over the weekend. How Can I Help? Why ‘Adding Value First’ Is the Winning Formula for Growth
If you have been blessed with an entrepreneurial spirit, then you are no stranger to hard work or commitment. But a great idea and a strong work ethic alone are not sufficient to grow your business. Today your customers have virtually unlimited options that are only a click away, so competing on price alone will not be enough to fuel growth. In fact, the historically tried and true four P's of marketing (Product, Price, Place & Promotion) are all being challenged by a simple winning formula--add value first. What is your gift to the world? What is the one thing your company is willing to give away that both provides value to your customers and illustrates your company's value? If you're Google, that would include everything from Android (its mobile phone operating system) to Gmail. Google's market cap is almost $400 billion dollars, and the majority of its customers have never paid Google a dime. Same goes for Facebook. These companies figured out how to give value to the … [Read more...] about How Can I Help? Why ‘Adding Value First’ Is the Winning Formula for Growth
Seattle Mariners Serve A Winning Lineup At The Ballpark
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin The team is back for a season of baseball at T-Mobile Park and fans are sure to cheer the tasty selection of food and beverages. It’s Time To Play Ball While the Seattle Mariners hold the dubious distinction of being the lone team in major league baseball that’s never played in the World Series, the M’s have made history in some truly delicious ways. The stadium with the retractable roof — you might have heard that it sometimes rains in Seattle — opened in 1999 as Safeco Field. The fare back then was fair, with local favorites such as Ivar’s and Kidd Valley given a seat at the very large table. In 2011, The ‘Pen was updated and made a dramatic debut, a expansive space that was home to chef-driven food stands serving New Haven-style pizza and terrific tortas. The area near center field became one of the hottest singles spots in the city drawing huge crowds even without the promise of cheap beer. On the … [Read more...] about Seattle Mariners Serve A Winning Lineup At The Ballpark
From Cold War to ‘Code War:’ Why government needs tech talent now
In the months prior to the outbreak of civil war in Syria, I led a State Department delegation on a controversial trip to Syria that included a sit-down with Bashar al-Assad. Our intention was to muscle the Syrian dictator on a series of security issues in the field of technology. The weaponization of widely available consumer technology was making it easier to surveil, spread disinformation, and both develop and destroy political movements. Our delegation was there to apply political and economic pressure to try to get Assad moving in the right direction. advertisement advertisement The thing that made this delegation walking into Assad’s office different from any other was that it was not composed of diplomats or government officials from the Pentagon or CIA. It was comprised of senior executives from American companies including Cisco Systems, Verisign, Microsoft, and others. Our view was that the companies held the power to be more persuasive under … [Read more...] about From Cold War to ‘Code War:’ Why government needs tech talent now
Chinese apps, including TikTok, banned: These are the most popular on the Play Store
The government has banned 59 Chinese apps, including TikTok, as it feels these apps are "prejudicial to sovereignty and integrity of India, defence of india, security of state and public order". The Indian smartphone market is not only dominated by Chinese hardware, but also Chinese apps. These apps have been developed by Chinese companies but are actively consumed in India. 1. Book Review: Dana Brown’s Entertaining and Insightful Memoir of Vanity Fair, ‘Dilettante.’
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Upon return from a family vacation three summers ago, economist Ike Brannon remarked at a subsequent lunch about an individual at the resort who was almost literally covered in tattoos. This was an expensive resort, and Brannon wondered how he and his family were sharing the same pool. To be clear, Brannon’s wonderment about the inked up vacationer wasn’t of the nose-upturned variety; rather he wanted to know what profession afforded so much individuality and disposable income. It turns out his poolmate was a chef. To younger readers, the mention of chef likely elicits a “so what?” response. For those born in the 1970s or earlier, the response is different. We remember . We remember when chef was a “dead end” job for, yes, people with tattoos. They were referred to as cooks then. It’s a long or short way of saying that the economic thinker in Brannon was celebrating a happy truth about prosperity: it elevates all manner of … [Read more...] about Book Review: Dana Brown’s Entertaining and Insightful Memoir of Vanity Fair, ‘Dilettante.’
The $3.2 Billion Man: Can Google’s Newest Star Outsmart Apple?
Lounging poolside in 93-degree July heat as Daft Punk’s “Get Lucky” thrums through the patio speakers, Tony Fadell takes a sip of nonalcoholic beer and sinks far enough back into his chair that his belly peeks out from under his Lacoste polo. We’re in the backyard of his Woodside, California, home, not far from the tennis court, barn, and private forested driveway with a horse-crossing sign. The house itself is rather modest, a modern slice of heaven that Fadell spent five years searching for and then two years remodeling, filling its tall, white rooms with state-of-the-art technology and Art Basel–style furniture. He calls its design “classic California.” A 1969 Ford Bronco, which Fadell recently restored with original parts, sits out front. He and his family moved here two and a half years ago, and the place feels lived in–a few kids’ toys are splayed across the kitchen counter–but idyllic. advertisement advertisement Yet Fadell is still sniping at his … [Read more...] about The $3.2 Billion Man: Can Google’s Newest Star Outsmart Apple?
