Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin What Women Need to Know About SECURE Act 2.0 On December 23, 2022, while most of the country was out of the office enjoying a nice holiday break, Congress passed an update to the retirement bill known as the SECURE Act, the Setting Every Community Up for Retirement Enhancement Act (now referred to as SECURE Act 2.0). While the original SECURE Act, passed nearly three years prior in December 2019, had a net negative impact by eliminating the “stretch IRA” (the ability for a non-spouse beneficiary of a qualified retirement account to take distributions over their lifetime), SECURE Act 2.0 had an overall net positive impact, making numerous small changes to retirement plan savings rules in an effort to encourage Americans to save more for their retirement. In total, there are over 90 provisions in SECURE Act 2.0. Below, I highlight a few revisions that are particularly meaningful for women. Why focus on women, in … [Read more...] about What Women Need To Know About SECURE Act 2.0

Focus And Finish
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin by Susan Murphy— My new mantra is Focus and Finish . I frequently say these three words out loud to remind myself to focus on getting the job done. As Peter Drucker said, “Time is the scarcest resource, and unless it’s managed nothing else can be managed.” No matter who you are, each day has 24 hours, 1440 minutes. Every day we have the choice to use it or lose it, as time cannot be saved. How will you invest your time this year? Now is the perfect time to think about priorities and values. Goethe said, “Things which matter most must never be at the mercy of things that matter least.” Does it seem that there are more distractions than ever? Does it ever feel like you’re helping everyone else and not focusing on your own goals? I struggle in finding a balance so there can be a win-win for reaching my goals and helping others reach theirs. Distractions come in all sizes and shapes like emails, phone calls, … [Read more...] about Focus And Finish
In Dialogue: Sarah Kate Ellis, President And CEO Of GLAAD, On The Power Of Media And LGTBQ Representation, Part 1
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin The world today is vastly different than it was even just a few years ago, and much of that can be attributed to work toward increasing inclusivity and diversity in the workplace, in leadership, and in the media we see each and every day. As a society, we choose whose stories get told, whose voices are heard, and that choice in turn impacts how we see and understand the world and each other. Witnessing how openly Millennials and Gen-Z embrace ideals of inclusivity and authenticity gives me hope for a future where everyone can be fully themselves and reach their highest potential. And yet, the LGBTQ community is also heavily under siege, with an unrelenting wave of anti-LGBTQ and particularly vitriolic anti-trans legislation sweeping the country (in just the last two weeks, a ban on gender-affirming care for transgender youth went into effect in Utah, and Tennessee moved forward with a bill that would criminalize such care, despite … [Read more...] about In Dialogue: Sarah Kate Ellis, President And CEO Of GLAAD, On The Power Of Media And LGTBQ Representation, Part 1

The Leadership Quality That Can Make You Or Break You: Self-Awareness
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin There is no end to the list of qualities that help to create a better leader. However, during times of uncertainty, major change and disruption, one rises to the top — self-awareness. The most effective leaders during challenging times have a very good sense of who they are. They have an accurate understanding of their impact on others. They are curious. They solve problems. In a nutshell they are self-aware, although self-awareness – per se – isn’t their specific focus. These qualities enable them to constantly learn, grow and become … and remain … effective leaders. Self-Awareness Drives Tangible Benefits “We all can lead better by developing a better understanding of ourselves, so we can make the best of what we have,” says Claudio Feser, senior advisor at McKinsey & Co. “Our research suggests that leaders who are self-aware – who know themselves or, as we put it, are ‘centered’ – are up to four times … [Read more...] about The Leadership Quality That Can Make You Or Break You: Self-Awareness
The Gregorys Have Dedicated Themselves To Uplifting The Black Community
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin President Obama has recognized John and Pamela Gregory for making positive changes in the Black community. The married couple are cofounders of several organizations: The National Center for Urban Solutions , The National African American Male Wellness Agency , Academy for Urban Scholars , and NCUS TEC . They began working together 30 years ago, with zero funding and no real guidelines as to how to accomplish their goals. And yet to date, the Gregorys have raised millions in funding, helped over 50,000 families, and provided employment opportunities for more than 10,000 people of color. African-American men are more likely to die of chronic diseases than their white counterparts. The Gregorys established the National African American Male Wellness Agency in 2004 in order to empower men of color to understand that through prevention, they can live longer. The awareness campaign is the largest wellness initiative of … [Read more...] about The Gregorys Have Dedicated Themselves To Uplifting The Black Community
There’s No Monument To Women On The National Mall. These Lawmakers Aim To Change That
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Women are missing from the National Mall—a monument to them, at least—but Congress is trying to change that. Democrats Sen. Tammy Baldwin and Rep. Joe Neguse and Republicans Sen. Marsha Blackburn and Rep. Debbie Lesko plan to introduce a bill that would pave the way for a monument to honor the early fight for women's equality in America. It follows 2020 legislation sanctioning such a monument on federal lands in Washington D.C. Now, Congress needs to authorize placement on the National Mall. The bipartisan, bicameral group is targeting early March for the filing of the “Women's Suffrage National Monument Location Act” to coincide with Women’s History Month. Ahead of that deadline, they are hoping to enlist major support from their colleagues—specifically, the endorsement of every woman currently serving in Congress. Sen. Baldwin cited her home state of Wisconsin’s history as the first state to ratify the 19th Amendment … [Read more...] about There’s No Monument To Women On The National Mall. Try These Foolproof Techniques To Keep Trust High At Work
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin The 2023 Edelman Trust Barometer was released last month, and a surprising top-line finding was that businesses are now the most trusted institution.
