Fluctuate in stocks

As 85% stocks from BSE 500 trade below 200-day average, experts advise caution

June 22, 2022 by www.moneycontrol.com

With the storm raging in the Indian equity space through the past six to nine months, the benchmark indices have gone into a tailspin. The market is singed by an unabated flight of capital by foreign portfolio investors, economic challenges, and geopolitical uncertainties. The benchmarks are trailing more than 16 percent from their all-time highs scaled in October 2021. The 30-share BSE Sensex has lost close to 16 percent from its peak while the widely tracked Nifty 50 has tumbled nearly 18 percent from its all-time high. So far in 2022, the Nifty 500 index lost 12 percent, while the BSE Sensex and Nifty 50 have declined nearly 10 percent each. The kind of beating suffered by stocks across sectors can be gauged from the fact that more than 85 percent of them from the universe of BSE 500, which is a collection of biggest companies in the country, are trading well below their 200-day moving average (DMA). Now what is this 200 DMA and what does it indicate? Close … [Read more...] about As 85% stocks from BSE 500 trade below 200-day average, experts advise caution

June 28, 2022 by www.moneycontrol.com

"Aanyone investing in the equity markets should not be swayed by short-term gains or losses. The long-term market returns should make up for the fact that the market has had a poor run in 2022 till now," Puneet Sharma, President of The Fund and CEO of Whitespace Alpha, says in an interview with Moneycontrol . He believes that in the long term, the IT sector and Nifty50 stocks, in general, are expected to generate an annualized return between 12 percent to 15 percent. Let's start with IT. This has been the biggest loser in this calendar year. Do you think it is time to turn bullish on the space? The IT sector has taken a beating in the stock market in recent times, there are no two ways about it, with the Nifty IT index down by approximately 25 percent from its peak. However, these companies have significant strengths and that has not changed. Part of the IT sector's fall is defined by downgrades because of earning shortfalls and FIIs pulling out capital on the back of … [Read more...] about Puneet Sharma of Whitespace Alpha expects Nifty50 stocks to fetch 12-15% return in long term

Bruised US stock investors brace for more pain in 2H22

June 25, 2022 by www.theedgemarkets.com

- A + A NEW YORK (June 25): With US stocks on track to mark their worst first half of the year in more than 50 years, investors are studying a range of metrics to determine whether the coming months could bring relief or more of the same. By any stretch, the first half of 2022 (1H22) has been a challenging one for investors. The S&P 500 is down around 18% year-to-date, on track for its worst first half of any year since 1970, according to S&P Dow Jones Indices, as the US Federal Reserve (Fed) tightens monetary policy in its fight against the highest inflation in decades. Bonds, which investors typically count on to counterbalance stock declines in their portfolios, have fared little better: The US bond market, as measured by the Vanguard Total Bond Market Index fund, is down 10.8% for the year to date, putting it on pace for its worst performance in modern history. With investor expectations fluctuating between continued high inflation and an economic … [Read more...] about Bruised US stock investors brace for more pain in 2H22

June 29, 2022 by www.theedgemarkets.com

- A + A PORT KLANG (June 29): The implementation of the chicken buffer stock initiative by the Farmers’ Organisation Authority (LPP) is expected to be able to cover 20% of the domestic supply through the importation of 4,536 tonnes of the protein source from Thailand in stages until the end of July. LPP director-general Datuk Azulita Salim said the buffer stock could also be used to offset price fluctuations if there were areas in the country facing a shortage of chicken supply. She said an allocation of RM50 million had been approved by the Cabinet for the implementation of the programme. “All the chickens that enter the country through this programme are halal-certified and have obtained approval from the Department of Veterinary Services,” she said after inspecting the cold room facility of the Selangor State Farmers’ Organisation (PPN) on Wednesday (June 29). She said for a start, six containers — each containing 20 to 21 tonnes of chicken — would be imported … [Read more...] about LPP importing 4,536 tonnes of chicken from Thailand to be used as buffer stock

June 24, 2022 by www.theedgemarkets.com

- A + A JERTIH (June 23): The Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industries is always monitoring the price of fuel including diesel to ensure that any price increase of the commodity will not affect the country’s food sector, especially the fishery sub-sector. He was speaking to reporters after officiating at the state-level Farmers, Livestock Breeders and Fishermen’s Day celebration at Dataran Pekan Jabi here on Thursday. Meanwhile, he said the fish supply stock in the country is currently sufficient although it depends on the weather situation. Asked on the uncertain prices of seafood, he said this is a normal situation as it depends on demand and supply factors. “Sometimes, there’s an over-supply of fish and at other times, there's a slight drop, resulting in price fluctuations … [Read more...] about Ministry monitoring fuel cost increase
