AFP Par ● Mon, February 6, 2023 2023-02-06 10:45 0 d5259e4d93052b0e76bee70b050ae822 2 Europe pandemic,bird-flu,Europe,H5N1,zoonotic-spillover,US,Asia,COVID-19 Free Experts have warned that the recent detection of bird flu in mammals including foxes, otters, minks, seals and even grizzly bears is concerning but emphasised that the virus would have to significantly mutate to spread between humans. Since late 2021, Europe has been gripped by its worst-ever outbreak of bird flu, with North and South America also experiencing severe outbreaks. This has led to the culling of tens of millions of domestic poultry worldwide, many with the H5N1 strain. The global outbreak is also responsible for the deaths of tens of thousands of wild birds. Tom Peacock, a virologist at the Imperial College London, told AFP that it constitutes a "panzootic" -- a pandemic among animals, in this case birds. "We are not fully sure why it's happening now but we think this might … [Read more...] about Bird flu detected in mammals but risk to humans low: experts

The ‘Egg Crisis’ – Another Pseudo-Inflation Phenomenon
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin “Eggs are eggs. People want eggs.” New York Times (Feb 3, 2023) First of all – Is there really an “egg crisis”? The press says so. The US Dept of Agriculture says so. As of the year-end, it certainly seemed so. Inventories were depleted and prices had tripled. But the most recent data looks very different. Egg prices have dropped over 40% in just 30 days. This is deflation in action. This is what “transitory” looks like. True, eggs are still more expensive than they were pre-pandemic. The run-up was caused by an avian flu epidemic which broke out in January 2022, with the loss of tens of millions of egg-laying chickens (as described in previous columns, linked at the end of this article). As stricken or compromised egg-layers were removed, and their replacements took time to come on line, the production of eggs dropped and the price rose – just as it did in the previous avian flu outbreak in … [Read more...] about The ‘Egg Crisis’ – Another Pseudo-Inflation Phenomenon
Cancer Diagnosis Early Saves Lives
(CTN News) – Medical Oncology Specialist Dr. Celal Alandağ stressed the importance of early cancer diagnosis. “Everybody now knows the importance of early cancer diagnosis.” Cancers that are detected in time with state-of-the-art scans can extend patients’ life expectancy. It’s true. Women are most likely to be diagnosed with breast cancer, so doing self-exams is essential to catching early. When you’re 20, you should start checking your breasts once a month and consult your doctor if anything changes. My recommendation is to see a doctor every 2-3 years between 20 and 40. It’s life-saving to get a mammogram and physician evaluation once a year after you’re 40,” he said. She said after the first sexual experience, a smear test and examination should be done once a year to keep an eye on cervical cancer. If it stays normal for three years, you can repeat it every 2-3 years. Controls should be done regularly if there are diseases or drugs that weaken the immune system. … [Read more...] about Cancer Diagnosis Early Saves Lives
Ex-GOP Candidate Probed By Dem AG Could Lose His Medical License Over COVID ‘Disinformation’
Scott Jensen, a medical doctor who previously served in the Minnesota State Senate and ran for governor as a Republican, is being investigated for the sixth time since 2020 by the state’s medical board after questioning COVID-19 protocols. Jensen says the complaints against him are politically motivated and are coming from people who disagree with his politics — not from actual patients. “This is all about raw politics, this is about raw power, this is about punishment,” he said. “There’s an opportunity for dissenting voices to be crushed, literally extinguished. If it can happen to me it can certainly happen to you. It can happen to any of us.” Scott Jensen, a medical doctor, former state senator and former Republican Minnesota gubernatorial candidate, said the state is attempting to revoke his medical license after he questioned certain components of the response to COVID-19. The Minnesota Board of Medical Practice is investigating complaints against Jensen to determine … [Read more...] about Ex-GOP Candidate Probed By Dem AG Could Lose His Medical License Over COVID ‘Disinformation’
Mark Cuban Says Economy Will Never Be The Same Post-Pandemic
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Billionaire Mark Cuban says President Trump is wrong to the think the economy can open up as early as May 1. And when it does open, it will take years to return to post-pandemic norms. “I wish he was right, but he’s not,” Cuban said in an interview on Sunday with Chris Wallace of FOX News Sunday. “People aren’t going to just venture outside. They're not going to go to large gatherings. They're not going to feel confident right off the bat. There’s going to be a lot of trepidation. And that concern is going to lead to people holding back on spending money,” he says. Some people are appalled by the rising stock market as unemployment explodes — over 16 million people have filed for unemployment in just 15 business days due to mandated government shutdowns of business. Retail, restaurants, travel, sports and entertainment have been particularly hard hit. “It speaks of a vast transfer of wealth orchestrated by the … [Read more...] about Mark Cuban Says Economy Will Never Be The Same Post-Pandemic
How Covid-19 Vaccines May Affect Your Menstrual Cycle, Periods
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin There’s a lot of misinformation about Covid-19 vaccines out there, period. There’s also been a lot of misinformation about how Covid-19 vaccines may affect your period. So perhaps it’s time to cycle back and do a “period piece” on what actual scientific studies have been done to date and what they’ve found. So far, several studies have shown that you may experience a temporary lengthening of your menstrual cycle for a couple cycles after getting a Covid-19 vaccine. The long and the short of it, though, is that this lengthening was typically no more than a few days and in most cases no more than a day. Contrast that with the February 2 tweet from Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Georgia) where she said: “Many women have reported problems with their menstrual cycles after taking the vaccines. And women have reported miscarriages as well. We need answers and we will be asking.” In the tweet, Taylor Greene also shared a tweet … [Read more...] about How Covid-19 Vaccines May Affect Your Menstrual Cycle, Periods

Geese culling may not be needed in Denver thanks to other population control methods
Denver’s resident Canada geese could be saved from a summer culling this year thanks to several control strategies and the potential impact of the ongoing avian flu outbreak. In 2019 and 2020, over 2,000 geese were killed in a controversial effort to control the population of year-round residents of Denver’s parks, and after two years of not needing the culling, this year is “looking pretty good” for the geese as well. Denver Parks and Recreation, in partnership with the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Wildlife Services, used all the nonlethal control strategies under their management program in 2022, including hazing, egg oiling and coyote decoys, said Denver Parks and Recreation’s Wildlife Program Administrator Vicki Vargas-Madrid, and saw only a small increase in the resident geese population over the past year. “Looking into 2023, a lot of people are asking if we’re going to use ‘lethal control’ (culling) in 2023, and the answer to that is: ‘We don’t believe so’,” … [Read more...] about Geese culling may not be needed in Denver thanks to other population control methods
Passive Euthanasia: Here’s what Supreme Court’s new rules signify
The Supreme Court of India In 2018, the Supreme Court passed a landmark judgment upholding the legality of withholding or withdrawing life supporting medical intervention from terminally ill patients. Yet, in the five years since the judgment, no family of a terminally ill patient has benefited from it. On January 24, the apex court gave in-principle approval to simplify and modify the end-of-life care or passive euthanasia guidelines issued five years back, though a detailed order with revised guidelines is yet to be pronounced.
