Monkeypox spreading through sex, but not an STI
This handout photo taken in the year 2001 and received on May 23, 2022 from the Robert Koch Institute (RKI), the German federal government agency and research institute responsible for disease control and prevention, shows a coloured electron-microscopic capture of the monkeypox virus. (Photo: AFP) For years, the dating application Grindr has doled out sexual health tips to its more than 11 million users. Now, the app, which serves the gay, bisexual and transgender community, is using its platform to get the word out about monkeypox, a virus that has long been endemic in parts of Africa but has recently spread to countries including the United States and the United Kingdom. Monkeypox is characterised by clusters of blister-like rashes, which health officials say has led to misdiagnosing the disease as common sexually transmitted infections. The virus also appears to be spreading in much the same way as STIs: through close, intimate contact. But repeated misdiagnoses could allow … [Read more...] about Monkeypox spreading through sex, but not an STI
The Best Wellness Destinations To Visit This Year
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Wellness tourism has boomed globally to a massive $793.2 billion dollar industry expected to grow to $1,672.2 billion by 2030. The demand for wellness destinations comes from a greater awareness of physical and mental wellness which has become a priority for travelers. Traditionally, wellness destinations seemed to be more exclusive and remote in areas like Southeast Asia and India but more and more resorts have popped up in North America exclusively focused on wellness in addition to popular resorts adding dedicated wellness programming. Castle Hot Springs in Arizona opened in 2020 on a 1,100-acre property centered around rejuvenating geothermal hot springs that have been naturally forged into the land over 13,000 years and flow at a clip of 200,000 gallons each day. The entire resort is focused on nourishing the mind, body, and soul by maximizing the benefits of the hot springs’ unique mineral mixture – particularly … [Read more...] about The Best Wellness Destinations To Visit This Year
Resistance Firms Ahead of Labor Report
Major Moves Trading was aimless during today's session as economic and earnings data came in below expectations. While there was plenty of bad news, some of the media's hand-wringing was a great example of post-hoc rationalization. This was particularly true in the energy sector. Each Wednesday, the Energy Information Administration (EIA) releases a report of oil inventories held by commercial firms in the U.S. Like most weekly reports, the data can be very "noisy," with wide swings from week to week. In a bullish oil market, we would like to see inventories fall because purchases and shipping are picking up. The weekly oil inventory report swung back hard today to show an increase of 7.1 million barrels versus a decrease of 8.6 million barrels last week. When the two data points are added together, we see a small net decrease over the past two weeks that is more likely to be an accurate reflection of the market. Most traders expected today's news after inventories were … [Read more...] about Resistance Firms Ahead of Labor Report
Inverse China ETFs Stage Breakout After Tariff Threat Tweet
Hopes of a trade deal breakthrough between Washington and Beijing have played a major part in driving China's benchmark stock index, the SSE Composite (000001.SS), up over 17% year to date (YTD). Therefore, it's not surprising to see the key Asian index suffer its largest one-day drop since February 2016 on Monday – a fall of 5.6% – after U.S. President Donald Trump fired off a Sunday tweet indicating that he plans to raise tariffs on $200 billion of Chinese goods to 25% on Friday because trade talks are moving too slowly. "We felt we were on track to get somewhere. Over the course of last week, we have seen an erosion of commitments by China. That in our view is unacceptable," said U.S. Trade Representative Robert Lighthizer, elaborating further on the president's social media threat, per Bloomberg . Fears across financial markets were somewhat alleviated later in the global trading day when it emerged that a Chinese delegation still planned to visit Washington on Thursday … [Read more...] about Inverse China ETFs Stage Breakout After Tariff Threat Tweet
Can the FOMC Combat the Impact of Tariffs?
Major Moves The U.S. stock market has had a rough two weeks. Beginning on May 22, bearish pressure started to mount as crude oil prices started falling and stocks in the energy sector began to lose ground. By the next day (May 23), the bearishness had spread throughout the market, and the major indexes started pulling back. While many of the sectors in the S&P 500 have been moving in lock step with each other during these turbulent weeks, a few have stood out for either their out-performance or their under-performance. You can see how this has played out in the hourly sector-comparison chart below, which uses the following sector-based ETFs managed by State Street Global Advisors: Technology Select Sector SPDR Fund ( XLK ) Real Estate Select Sector SPDR Fund ( XLRE ) Consumer Staples Select Sector SPDR Fund ( XLP ) Consumer Discretionary Select Sector SPDR Fund ( XLY ) Health Care Select Sector SPDR Fund ( XLV ) Materials Select Sector SPDR Fund ( … [Read more...] about Can the FOMC Combat the Impact of Tariffs?

Putin says West won’t succeed in cutting Russia off
Putin - A + A (May 26): President Vladimir Putin acknowledged on Thursday that Western sanctions against Russia were disrupting its supply chains, but said they would not succeed in cutting it off from technology. Speaking by video link to leaders of ex-Soviet states, Putin said Russia would keep working to find substitutes for foreign imports no longer available to it, even though this was not a "panacea for all ills". Russia has become increasingly isolated from the West since invading Ukraine three months ago in what it calls a "special military operation". Scores of companies have left the country for good and unprecedented Western sanctions have targeted its economy and businesses. "Representatives of our businesses face problems, of course, especially in the field of supply chains and transport. But nevertheless, everything can be adjusted, everything can be built in a new way," Putin said in televised comments. "Not without losses at a certain stage, … [Read more...] about Putin says West won’t succeed in cutting Russia off
