A tornado watch that was in effect Saturday for all of southern New Jersey has been cancelled. The watch that was in effect has been replaced by a flood advisory in Atlantic, Cape May, Cumberland, Burlington, Camden, Gloucester and Salem counties, the National Weather Service reports. The thunderstorms that passed through central and southern New Jersey Saturday evening have moved offshore, leaving behind lingering showers that will continue into Sunday morning, according to Storm Team 4. The National Weather Service issues a tornado watch when there’s a possibility of severe thunderstorms and tornadoes in or near the area, according to its website. A raging, windswept storm tore across the tri-state area as Monday's peak morning commute got underway, dumping more than 3 inches of rain on parts of New Jersey and trapping dozens in submerged cars as gushing water terrorized subway riders across Manhattan. A flash flood warning is in effect for all five boroughs and much of New Jersey through mid-morning as a strong storm packing heavy rain and intense wind gusts moves through the area. The weather alert is effective through 11:15 a.m. for Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens, Staten Island and the Bronx, along with Rockland and Orange counties in New York and Union, Essex, Bergen, Hudson and Passaic counties in New Jersey.
