Bangkok has flooded in many areas after 10 hours of torrential rain beginning at 3pm yesterday and continuing into the early hours of this morning, according to the Department of Drainage and Sewage. The most affected areas are Chatuchak, Lak Si, Don Mueang and Lat Phrao. In some places, the water level has reached higher than 1 metre. The floods caused traffic jams this morning, namely at Ratchayothin Intersection and Ratchadapisek – Lat Phrao Intersection. Now, the roads are starting to return to normal. However, some sections of the roads may still be flooded, so bear this in mind if you are driving in Bangkok today. The Department of Drainage and Sewage reported that flood solution projects are going ahead in Bangkok and should be completed in many areas by the end of May. The projects will definitely help alleviate Bangkok’s flooding situation this monsoon season, according to the department. A shooting at a church around 70 kilometres outside Los Angeles, California, has left 1 person dead and 4 critically injured. It comes just a day after a man opened fire and gunned down 10 people at a supermarket in New York state. According to media reports, the second US mass shooting in as many days took place at the Geneva Presbyterian Church, when a lone gunman began shooting the congregation at around 1.30pm on Sunday (03.30am Monday morning in Thailand). Jeff Hallock from the Orange County Sheriff’s department says members of the congregation managed to get hold of the shooter, using an extension cable to “hogtie” his legs and confiscating at least 2 of his weapons. “That group of churchgoers displayed what we believe is exceptional heroism, and bravery. Drone manufacturing and services will create a multitude of jobs and is touted to be an over Rs 30,000-crore industry, Ministry of Civil Aviation Jyotiraditya Scindia said on May 10. Addressing the “Experience Studio on Drones” event organised by the government think tank Niti Aayog, Scindia said, "The potential is huge in the drone industry. On the manufacturing side, we are looking at Rs 5,000 crore investments and creation of 10,000 jobs. On the services side, we are looking at creating a Rs 30,000-crore industry." In the coming years, the country would need nearly a lakh drone pilots, the minister said. "Today a drone pilot can be trained without requiring any college degrees. They just need to (be) 12th class pass. They can be into a job within two-three months, and get Rs 30,000 per month salary," he added.
