By Sheriff Jim Wilson, Shooting Illustrated Image Caption: Ruger ’s PC Carbine is just one of the many options available for those who choose the PCC lifestyle. Accepting Glock magazines and with a variety of options for attaching accessories, the PC Carbine makes a lot of sense for defense. Students of firearm history know the concept of pistol-caliber carbines is not a new one. They really first became a hot item back in 1873, when Winchester introduced the Model 1873 carbine and rifle. Coincidentally, that is the same year Colt unveiled the Single Action Army revolver. In short order, Winchester offered the Model 73 in .44-40 WCF, .38-40 WCF and .32-20 WCF chamberings. Colt responded by chambering its big revolver in the same calibers. Surprisingly, in those days the Winchester was not chambered in .45 Colt; that only occurred in more modern times. Marlin and other companies soon got on the bandwagon, too, offering carbines that were compatible with Colt, Smith & … [Read more...] about How Pistol Caliber Carbines Can Fit In Your Defensive Plan

How The New Soneva Soul Is Putting The Maldives On The Map For Wellness
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Stretched all around you, the myriad tones of blue are simply dazzling – turquoise, cyan and peacock all swirling into one endless expanse of ocean. But ‘blue’ is the last thing you feel here – for, before you’ve even been greeted by your spa host, you are in an upbeat mood. The wooden boardwalk, which takes you to the tree-top ‘village’ is sun-baked and hot, hot, hot on your bare feet – you discarded your flip flops a long time ago – so, you hop and skip, in gleeful, child-like fashion, until you get to the shade. Soneva Jani is found in the Maldives’ Noonu Atoll. It is one of the last resorts in the Maldives’ islands, which sit in the Indian Ocean like a string of pearls. It is located at the furthest reaches of the country – head north and the next stop is India, north east and you’ll reach Sri Lanka. It feels remote and otherworldly. It is remote and otherworldly. Jutting out over the cobalt-kaleidoscopic … [Read more...] about How The New Soneva Soul Is Putting The Maldives On The Map For Wellness

What Do We Tell Our Newest Workers?
I used to be mainly concerned about the unfortunate but deeply ingrained attitudes of the upcoming and incoming workforce, and how these overly entitled kids would fit into the newly serious and heads-down culture of those startups and growth stage businesses that had dodged the bullets and stayed alive for the last three years. These kids had been indoctrinated from birth by helicopter parents, with first-place trophies for all, and convinced by college faculty that their generation would be a gift (and a bargain at any price) to the working world. But I'm afraid that over the last few years, the "real" world has taught them some even more pernicious and dangerous lessons. I was worried about the "work" part of their work ethic, and I should have been paying more attention to the ethics part. Work isn't going to be a picnic for anyone who thinks the next two years are going to be fun, easy, or anything but a difficult slog with plenty of bumps along the way. If they believe … [Read more...] about What Do We Tell Our Newest Workers?
Walmart Is Hiring 150,000 Workers and Giving Out $550 Million in Bonuses
Earlier in the week, I wrote about Amazon's plans to hire 100,000 new workers to handle the surge in online shopping . Now Walmart has announced similar plans, except the company plans to go even further--adding 150,000 new employees between now and May. Those employees will staff up Walmart's stores, distribution centers, and online fulfillment centers, according to a company statement . Walmart will also pay its 1.4 million current employees an extra $550 million in bonuses starting April 2. Full-time employees will get a $300 bonus, and part-time employees will receive $150 each. The company's statement also said that it will pay its regular quarterly employee bonus a month early, at the end of April instead of May. At a time when companies in communities across America are shutting down and laying off employees, the fact that the world's largest retailer is adding to its workforce is welcome news. Especially following on Amazon's move to do the same. While … [Read more...] about Walmart Is Hiring 150,000 Workers and Giving Out $550 Million in Bonuses
3 Employees You Need To Fire. Now
There’s no more challenging job than being the person who has to fire people. Everyone else gets to talk about what a tight-knit, stick-together group the company is (just like a “family” of friends), but you’re the one who has to deliver the bad news over and over again. It’s not easy or always popular to be the boss, but then good leadership isn’t a popularity contest. If you were unpopular in high school, you’re already one step ahead of the game. But the fact is, your company is only as good as its weakest employee. Here are the folks you need to fire - sooner rather than later. No effort, no heart. Sometimes it’s a breeze. We try to immediately fire any employee who doesn’t try or doesn’t care. These are the cardinal sins in a start-up, so there isn’t much angst in letting these folks go. Then the job gets harder. All effort, no results. The next tier of troublesome employees are those who try hard but just cannot do the job. They are totally sincere, but … [Read more...] about 3 Employees You Need To Fire. How Can I Help? Why ‘Adding Value First’ Is the Winning Formula for Growth
If you have been blessed with an entrepreneurial spirit, then you are no stranger to hard work or commitment. But a great idea and a strong work ethic alone are not sufficient to grow your business. Today your customers have virtually unlimited options that are only a click away, so competing on price alone will not be enough to fuel growth. In fact, the historically tried and true four P's of marketing (Product, Price, Place & Promotion) are all being challenged by a simple winning formula--add value first. What is your gift to the world? What is the one thing your company is willing to give away that both provides value to your customers and illustrates your company's value? If you're Google, that would include everything from Android (its mobile phone operating system) to Gmail. Google's market cap is almost $400 billion dollars, and the majority of its customers have never paid Google a dime. Same goes for Facebook. These companies figured out how to give value to the … [Read more...] about How Can I Help? Why ‘Adding Value First’ Is the Winning Formula for Growth

Vietnam versus Thailand – which is the best for travel or living?
They are both beautiful countries and stand out amongst their south east asian counterparts for their food, culture and scenery. But which one is your choice for travelling or living in? Here are some introductory thoughts… Influences Thailand is a constitutional monarchy and the former king, King Bhumibol, was greatly loved and respected. His son, King Maha Vachiralongkorn, now maintains the customs and traditions of the Thai monarchy. His coronation was an elaborate ceremony in May 2019 celebrated by all Thais. The main religion in Thailand is Theravada Buddhism. Monks retain high status and are a big part of daily life, from festivals to daily blessings. Young Thai men become novice monks for a period – usually 1-3 weeks – to earn “merit” for their families. Thailand is a hodge podge of old culture and traditions fused with modern western influences – often at the same time. Thais celebrate everything and are reasonably tolerant to all cultures. Thai people always try … [Read more...] about Vietnam versus Thailand – which is the best for travel or living?
