King and his court: Novak Djokovic at last year's French Open PARIS - Novak Djokovic admits he will be fired up by the fiasco of his high-profile deportation from Australia when he targets a record-equalling 21st major on his Grand Slam return at the French Open. World number one Djokovic captured a second Roland Garros title in 2021 followed by a sixth Wimbledon to move to 20 majors alongside Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal. However, his unseemly exit from Melbourne following his refusal to be vaccinated opened the door for Nadal to claim a second Australian Open and 21st Grand Slam crown. "It's something that I never faced before," said Djokovic, who turns 35 on Sunday, the opening day of the French Open. "The amount of pressure and everything that I was feeling in the first few months of the year, as much as I've felt pressure in my life and my career, that was something really on a whole different level." Djokovic has played only five tournaments in 2022 but arrives in … [Read more...] about Fired-up Djokovic braced for Alcaraz and Nadal challenge at French Open

How The New Soneva Soul Is Putting The Maldives On The Map For Wellness
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Stretched all around you, the myriad tones of blue are simply dazzling – turquoise, cyan and peacock all swirling into one endless expanse of ocean. But ‘blue’ is the last thing you feel here – for, before you’ve even been greeted by your spa host, you are in an upbeat mood. The wooden boardwalk, which takes you to the tree-top ‘village’ is sun-baked and hot, hot, hot on your bare feet – you discarded your flip flops a long time ago – so, you hop and skip, in gleeful, child-like fashion, until you get to the shade. Soneva Jani is found in the Maldives’ Noonu Atoll. It is one of the last resorts in the Maldives’ islands, which sit in the Indian Ocean like a string of pearls. It is located at the furthest reaches of the country – head north and the next stop is India, north east and you’ll reach Sri Lanka. It feels remote and otherworldly. It is remote and otherworldly. Jutting out over the cobalt-kaleidoscopic … [Read more...] about How The New Soneva Soul Is Putting The Maldives On The Map For Wellness
Ace & Jig’s Spring 2022 Assortment Features All New Bespoke Textiles
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin I’ve made it no secret that Ace & Jig is one of my all-time favorite fashion brands. Since I first laid eyes on their gorgeous, often reversible textiles in 2014, I’ve been a dedicated follower and fan. When the world seemed to fall apart two-plus years ago under the fog of a global pandemic, I worried about all my favorites in fashion, and top on the list was Ace & Jig. Ace & Jig has a cult following, in large part thanks to the brand’s original, colorful textiles, which are designed completely in house by founders Jenna Wilson and Cary Vaughan. It’s a laborious process of collaborating with craftspeople in India to combine the colors and textures that will bring the design duo’s visions to life. But the stunning, truly unique results are well worth it. One way the team survived the pandemic was to use previous season’s textiles with new designs. Thank goodness, it worked! And it makes … [Read more...] about Ace & Jig’s Spring 2022 Assortment Features All New Bespoke Textiles
What Do We Tell Our Newest Workers?
I used to be mainly concerned about the unfortunate but deeply ingrained attitudes of the upcoming and incoming workforce, and how these overly entitled kids would fit into the newly serious and heads-down culture of those startups and growth stage businesses that had dodged the bullets and stayed alive for the last three years. These kids had been indoctrinated from birth by helicopter parents, with first-place trophies for all, and convinced by college faculty that their generation would be a gift (and a bargain at any price) to the working world. But I'm afraid that over the last few years, the "real" world has taught them some even more pernicious and dangerous lessons. I was worried about the "work" part of their work ethic, and I should have been paying more attention to the ethics part. Work isn't going to be a picnic for anyone who thinks the next two years are going to be fun, easy, or anything but a difficult slog with plenty of bumps along the way. If they believe … [Read more...] about What Do We Tell Our Newest Workers?
Two Female Film Makers Are Taking On A 8,899 Kilometer Journey To Share Remarkable Human Stories
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Stephanie Johnstone and Tamar Kobakhidze come from two different worlds – one hails from Germany while the other from the Republic of Georgia. But, when Johnstone put out a call for a traveler interested in aiding her on a several-month expedition through much of Central Asia, following along the ancient Silk Road route, Kobakhidze would turn out to be the perfect fit. The two females will travel for seven months and more than 8,899 kilometers through some of the remotest corners of our world to shine a light on remarkable human stories to give viewers a window to a kinder and more compassionate world. "When we look beyond our culture and religion, where we live, upbringing, and preferences, we realize that we are all citizens of this beautiful planet we call Earth," says Johnstone. Additionally, each week, the expedition will be paired with a global call to action for kindness. I sat down with them to learn more … [Read more...] about Two Female Film Makers Are Taking On A 8,899 Kilometer Journey To Share Remarkable Human Stories
So you want to move to Vietnam?
“Whilst Thailand is often nicknamed the ‘land of a thousand 7-elevens’, with a convenience store on just about every corner, there are very few of these in Vietnam, for now.” With the Thai Baht on a high at the moment, along with stricter enforcement of visa rules, some expats say they’ve had enough and are heading to Vietnam, or some other south east Asian country, where they might improve their personal situation. For example, an expat pensioner, on a fixed income, from a country where the Thai baht has risen against your currency, Thailand has become a more expensive option – perhaps impossible to make ends meet anymore with your old pension. The British pound, as just one currency, has gone from around 55 baht to the pound four years ago, to now around 39 baht, a big loss in value. Meanwhile the cost of living in Thailand has risen over the last decade. But Vietnam has its own challenges and, whilst being an amazing place to explore as a tourist, may not be to everyone’s … [Read more...] about So you want to move to Vietnam?
Royal Flush: Inside Crypto’s Most Exclusive Gathering
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin P oker chips, high stakes, and big money. Throughout last week, a few yards away from the Caribbean's largest casino in the Bahamian capital, Nassau, about 2,000 people gathered at the Baha Mar resort’s convention center to discuss cryptocurrencies and the next iteration of the World Wide Web a.k.a Web3. Just last month, a similar albeit much larger crowd took over Miami Beach to pay homage to the invention that started it all—bitcoin. But if the 25,000-person expo in South Florida felt like Coachella for the bitcoin faithful , the latest summit, dubbed “Crypto Bahamas”, inched closer in resemblance to the World Economic Forum’s Davos conference, not minding the casual dress code. Pretty much everyone from CEOs to developers wore flip-flops, sneakers, and t-shirts bearing slogans such as “NFTs are a scam” and “Burnt Finance”. Co-organized by billionaire Sam Bankman-Fried’s crypto derivatives exchange FTX and the … [Read more...] about Royal Flush: Inside Crypto’s Most Exclusive Gathering
How Can I Help? Why ‘Adding Value First’ Is the Winning Formula for Growth
If you have been blessed with an entrepreneurial spirit, then you are no stranger to hard work or commitment. But a great idea and a strong work ethic alone are not sufficient to grow your business. Today your customers have virtually unlimited options that are only a click away, so competing on price alone will not be enough to fuel growth. In fact, the historically tried and true four P's of marketing (Product, Price, Place & Promotion) are all being challenged by a simple winning formula--add value first. What is your gift to the world? What is the one thing your company is willing to give away that both provides value to your customers and illustrates your company's value? If you're Google, that would include everything from Android (its mobile phone operating system) to Gmail. Google's market cap is almost $400 billion dollars, and the majority of its customers have never paid Google a dime. Same goes for Facebook. These companies figured out how to give value to the … [Read more...] about How Can I Help? Why ‘Adding Value First’ Is the Winning Formula for Growth
Vietnam versus Thailand – which is the best for travel or living?
They are both beautiful countries and stand out amongst their south east asian counterparts for their food, culture and scenery. But which one is your choice for travelling or living in? Here are some introductory thoughts… Influences Thailand is a constitutional monarchy and the former king, King Bhumibol, was greatly loved and respected. His son, King Maha Vachiralongkorn, now maintains the customs and traditions of the Thai monarchy. His coronation was an elaborate ceremony in May 2019 celebrated by all Thais. The main religion in Thailand is Theravada Buddhism. Monks retain high status and are a big part of daily life, from festivals to daily blessings. Young Thai men become novice monks for a period – usually 1-3 weeks – to earn “merit” for their families. Thailand is a hodge podge of old culture and traditions fused with modern western influences – often at the same time. Thais celebrate everything and are reasonably tolerant to all cultures. Thai people always try … [Read more...] about Vietnam versus Thailand – which is the best for travel or living?
How A Dreamer’s Secret Inspired The Creative Team Behind ‘¡Americano! The Musical’
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Antonio “Tony” Valdovinos dreamed of the day he could enlist in the U.S. Marine Corp. Though only a 6th grader on 9/11, he vowed to defend his country while watching the day’s tragic events. On his 18th birthday, he attempted enlisting but uncovered a secret which crushed his ambition. Valdovino’s parents never told him he was born in Mexico — or that he was an undocumented immigrant. Though the DREAM Act never passed into law, young immigrants who lack papers and were brought to the United States as children are often called “Dreamers.” So are those granted some protections through Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA), which permits them to stay in the country, provided they fit certain criteria. Now, Valdovino’s life story has become a new off-Broadway musical. Called “¡Americano!,” the show is presented by Quixote Productions along with Chicanos Por La Causa, an Arizona non-profit which works to end … [Read more...] about How A Dreamer’s Secret Inspired The Creative Team Behind ‘¡Americano!
