Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Tesla, the world’s leading maker of electric vehicles, has been cut from S&P’s ESG Index created for environmentally conscious investors owing to flaws in its business conduct and, ironically, aspects of the company’s low-carbon strategy. The move inflamed Tesla CEO Elon Musk who called “ ESG is a scam .” S&P removed Tesla from the index early this month as part of a regular rebalancing of companies that prioritize sustainability but didn’t detail the changes until today, with a blog post from Margaret Dorn, head of S&P’s North American ESG Indices. Apple, Microsoft, Amazon and Alphabet were the highest-ranked companies on the list, which assesses companies’ overall environmental impact, sustainability efforts and corporate culture. Curiously, oil giant Exxon Mobil ranked among the index’s top 10 while Tesla scored in the bottom 25%, making it ineligible for inclusion. Today’s top design innovators have it all wrong. Here’s how to think bigger
Charles Eames was once asked to define the boundaries of design. “What are the boundaries of problems?” he replied. That was more than 50 years ago. The impact of design has only grown. As the boundaries of problems have expanded, so has design. We believe it must expand even more in the years to come. advertisement advertisement The problems facing business and, indeed, humanity are becoming even more intractable, intertwined, and complex. The global population will be nearly 10 billion by midcentury. Cities will house some 2.5 billion people by 2050, making them more crowded and clogged. US pries into over 100 trader and banker phones in texting probe
Reuters filepix for illustration purpose only - A + A NEW YORK (May 18): The US is forcing Wall Street banks to embark on a systematic search through more than 100 personal mobile phones carried by top traders and dealmakers in the largest-ever probe into clandestine messaging on platforms such as WhatsApp. The Securities and Exchange Commission has been sending firms lists of key positions — in some cases pointing to around 30 people including heads of certain investment banking teams or trading desks — that are subject to the review, according to people with direct knowledge of the requests. Personnel in those roles are being ordered to hand over phones so devices can be examined by lawyers. The aim is to gauge how pervasively Wall Street professionals use unauthorized messaging platforms to chat with each other or clients as regulators decide which firms to punish, and how hard, for failing to preserve business-related messages sent via unapproved platforms. … [Read more...] about US pries into over 100 trader and banker phones in texting probe
A lone bear, black magic and a $235 billion stock market crash
What does it take to trigger a crash in the stock market? A once-in-a-century pandemic? The biggest war in Europe in 70 years? The US Federal Reserve instantaneously cutting off the supply of the opium of record liquidity and low interest rates? Multi-year high inflation? How about black magic? The Oxford Dictionary defines black magic as a type of magic that is believed to use the power of the devil in order to do evil. In a world where boring financial data, profit and loss statements, and complex macroeconomic events sway the everyday movement of stock prices and stock indices, one Rajkot-based stockbroker claimed last week that he spent more than Rs 8 crore to engineer a multi-day crash in the stock market with the help of esoteric black magic. Close “We are responsible to a great extent for today’s fall and the fall of the past few days in the market. You won’t believe it, but we have spent over Rs 8.5 crore today in kala jadu (black magic) to create … [Read more...] about A lone bear, black magic and a $235 billion stock market crash

Allianz fund managers’ paydays could be followed by prison
- A + A (May 18): He was a hedge-fund manager supposedly under the watchful eye of a “master cop” — an Allianz SE unit that policed his every move. Instead, US authorities say, Greg Tournant sold lies to investors that cost customers, and now Allianz, billions of dollars, and resulted in a guilty plea to federal charges of securities fraud by Allianz Global Investors US.
