Poe: Fines for colorum PUVs ‘certainly too much’

February 8, 2019 by newsinfo.inquirer.net

MANILA, Philippines—Senator Grace Poe on Friday said the existing fines for “colorum”  public utility vehicles (PUVs) were “certainly too much” for drivers and operators. Colorum PUVs are those operating without a franchise permit or outside their franchise area. “The fines and penalties should be commensurate to the offense made. A one million peso fine for colorum buses is certainly too much,” Poe said in a statement. “If we really mean business, then the DOTr (Department of Transportation) and its attached agencies should beef up on the enforcement side of existing laws and regulations,” she added. Poe, chair of the Senate public services committee, made the statement after the DOTr expressed openness to suspend the Joint Administrative Order (JAO) 2014-01 which imposed heftier fines on colorum PUVs. Poe earlier asked the DOTr to suspend the 2014 order, calling it “illegal” as only the law can impose higher fines and penalties. Mall operators may be fined up to P1 million if they are caught allowing “colorum” public utility vehicles (PUVs) to operate in their terminals. Transportation Undersecretary for Roads Tim Orbos will meet with Metro Manila mall operators tomorrow, April 12, to remind them that they would be “made answerable” for the proliferation of colorum vehicles in their terminals. Under the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board’s Memorandum Circular No. 2017-030 which sets the guidelines for off-street terminal operations, violators face a minimum fine of P50,000 for every colorum jeepney and up to P1 million for every colorum bus. Around 195 malls in Metro Manila also serve as transport hubs. Of these, 16 are located on Edsa. Your subscription could not be saved. Please try again. LTFRB pressed anew on stiff ‘colorum’ fines

September 27, 2014 by newsinfo.inquirer.net

Transport groups in Metro Manila renewed calls for the suspension of a government order that raised fines to as high as P1 million for franchise violations, a measure already being challenged in the Supreme Court but which remains open for discussion at the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB). “We’re not against the law but where are the other government actions to help us so we can avoid violations?” said Efren de Luna, national chair of the Alliance of Concerned Transport Organization (Acto), during a consultation held at the Land Transportation Office (LTO) in Quezon City on Friday. De Luna said some areas covered by their jeepney franchises, for example, had become private properties, forcing operators to find routes and run the risk of being apprehended for being out-of-line. Other drivers unknowingly commit violations on streets that lack proper traffic signs, such as those for loading and unloading areas, making them easy prey for extortionist … [Read more...] about LTFRB pressed anew on stiff ‘colorum’ fines

Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin When Burt Williams and Ed Selyem decided to make some wine in their garage one weekend in 1979, they probably never dreamed they were launching a wine legacy in the Russian River Valley AVA of Sonoma County. But the hobby soon grew into a full-time business, and the partners released their first Pinot Noir wine in 1982, thus ushering in the birth of Williams Selyem Winery . Today Williams Selyem wines have achieved world-class status, and have helped to propel the Russian River Valley to fame as one of the best wine growing regions in the world. Williams Selyem was served at the White House as early as 1995, and was the first American pinot noir to receive a perfect score of 100 points, from Wine Enthusiast in 2009. Along the way, they also adopted the Burgundian tradition of mentorship, with a focus of passing on winemaking knowledge to the next generation to ensure high quality wines. More than a decade in the works, the $100 million-plus mixed-use development will feature two office buildings – SoftBank has leased the larger one – high-end apartments for Stanford faculty, and 35,000 square feet of retail space called Middle Plaza, which will be housed in a three-story building on the property. The land, which is owned by the university, sits along the El Camino corridor and was previously populated by car dealerships. This is the first upscale development of this size and scope, Stephen and Jared Silver, principals of Stephen Silver Fine Jewelry, said. The Silvers, who are managing and programming the retail and restaurant spaces at Middle Plaza, said the luxury retail and dining experience will open in the fourth quarter. Yellow dust expected to continue Friday

March 23, 2023 by koreajoongangdaily.joins.com

Yellow dust blankets Seoul on Thursday as weather authorities warned of bad air quality through Friday. [YONHAP] Yellow dust descended on Korea on Thursday and was expected to linger through Friday, pushing fine dust levels up in the Seoul metropolitan area and some southern regions. The Air Quality Forecasting Center, run by the Environment Ministry’s National Institute of Environmental Research, blamed China for the air pollutants, saying that the yellow dust affecting Korea this week originated from northeast China on Wednesday. Korea's northwestern coastal areas were the hardest hit on Thursday, with fine dust levels in Incheon reaching 163 micrograms per cubic meter, which is considered “very bad” on the government’s four-tier air quality system. On Friday, fine dust levels in the Seoul metropolitan area — referring to Seoul, Incheon and Gyeonggi — Gangwon, South Chungcheong, North Chungcheong, North Jeolla, Busan, Daegu, Ulsan and North Gyeongsang are expected to be … [Read more...] about Yellow dust expected to continue Friday

Tiffany & Co. modern ‘Hardwear’ collection Historically, the padlock in jewelry dates back to the 19th century, featuring intricate and often coded messages and motifs. During this period, bracelets and necklaces were traditionally given when a man had to travel. The locks were secured with a key upon his departure and unlocked upon his return. Allusions to chastity and fidelity were also part of the symbolism, but today, we recognize these jewels as tokens of affection and passion.
