Is There Science Behind Why Teens Wear Hoodies In Summer Heat?
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin If you are the parent of a teenager (or perhaps a pre-teen) then you probably understand what is forthcoming in this essay. I have a fifteen-year-old son who wears long-sleeved hoodies in the middle of this hot Georgia summer. I recently tweeted about this on my Twitter page, and many people cathartically chimed in. I am the former president of the American Meteorological Society (AMS) and a climate scientist. I know a little bit about heat so this observation has nagged at me for awhile. I decided to use my curiosity and scientific training to explore whether there is any science grounding behind why teens wear hoodies in summertime heat. For context, the climate is warming, and summers are likely becoming hotter. I wrote a piece in Forbes detailing how temperature distributions have shifted. Extreme heat values from a few decades ago are increasingly “normal” today. Parts of Europe experienced “1st of its kind in the … [Read more...] about Is There Science Behind Why Teens Wear Hoodies In Summer Heat?
SAS secures US$700 mil financing to aid restructuring
- A + A BENGALURU: Scandinavian airline SAS said on Saturday (Aug 13) that it entered into an agreement with Apollo Global Management to raise US$700 million of fresh financing it needs to see it through bankruptcy. The airline filed for bankruptcy protection in the United States in early July to help cut debt after the collapse of wage talks between the airline and its pilots, triggering a 15-day strike that added to travel chaos across Europe. SAS said in a statement it expects to complete the Chapter 11 restructuring process in nine to 12 months. The airline anticipates receiving court approval for its US$700 million financing by the end of September. SAS chief executive Anko van der Werff has said the strike accelerated its decision to file for Chapter 11 status. The airline has said the industrial action had cost it more than US$145 million, affecting 380,000 passengers in the peak summer travel season, and might jeopardize the firm's ability to secure … [Read more...] about SAS secures US$700 mil financing to aid restructuring

Fox News correspondent Gillian Turner responded Wednesday to the news the Los Angeles County could be facing another three months of lockdown in an attempt to control the spread of coronavirus. Noting that many businesses have already been devastated by forced closures stemming from the coronavirus pandemic, Turner wondered how many would even be able to reopen if the shutdowns continued through the summer. WATCH: Fox News host Harris Faulkner introduced the topic, saying that the announcement had “lit up Twitter” as people weighed in on the possibility of a stay-at-home order that lasted all summer. (RELATED: Harris Faulkner Forced To Referee As Guests Square Off Over Coronavirus Response) “They said that this would be a slow rollout for this,” Faulkner said, noting that a few counties had begun to lift partial restrictions. “They weren’t kidding. Still rolling after all these years: Chipotle re-opens original store in Denver after summer-long remodel
Bad news, Dolly Madison fans: The summer-long closure of the Chipotle store at the corner of Evans Avenue and South Gilpin Street did not restore the space to its former ice-cream scooping glory. Instead the closure accommodated a facelift of the original location of the burrito peddler that since opening for business at 1644 E. Evans in 1993, Chipotle Mexican Grill has exploded into one of the most recognizable fast casual dining chains in the U.S. Thursday marks the first day the original store welcomed customers since renovations were completed this summer, according to a news release. The re-opening is right on schedule. Fall classes begin at nearby University of Denver on Monday. On its first days of business 24 years ago, company founder, chairman and CEO Steve Ells was behind the counter wrapping silver foil around chicken fajita burritos for curious diners. Todd Boehly’s $950 Million Gambit To Keep Chelsea In The Game
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin A big challenge for Chelsea FC’s new owners, an investment group led by Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital, was how they would be able to keep the English soccer team among the best in the world after paying $3.1 billion to acquire it, especially because, as part of their bid, they promised to invest another $2.16 billion, which would include an upgrade to the team’s home at Stamford Bridge. Now we know a big piece of that puzzle. Chelsea’s owners are reportedly borrowing $950 million, consisting roughly of a $357 million revolving credit facility and a $595 million term loan. The debt, however, will not sit on the soccer team’s balance sheet. Rather, it will be on Chelsea FC’s holding company’s balance sheet. This is a financial maneuver that frees up the soccer team from UEFA’s new financial sustainability regulations , which, among other things, are meant to keep owners from deficit-financing their rosters. … [Read more...] about Todd Boehly’s $950 Million Gambit To Keep Chelsea In The Game
