By Massad Ayoob, American Handgunner In the last few years, we’ve seen a strong resurgence in the popularity of the 9mm among American police. The cardinal signal being the FBI paper indicating the Bureau’s intent to switch back to that caliber from the Glock .40, standard issue for them since the late 1990’s. This has led a lot of folks on shooter forums and elsewhere to conclude the .40 is on its way out of American law enforcement. That prediction turns out to be drastically premature. First, the Bureau itself has not yet actually made wholesale changeover. Most agents are still carrying issue .40’s, and many are carrying optional Glock’s in 9mm and .45 ACP as they have been able to do for several years. There still seems to be more police agencies issuing the .40 than any other caliber. Left to right: 9mm, .40 S&W or .45 ACP? Shown here with SIG barrels — the debate is destined to continue, but the 9mm is climbing back into Compromise Factor To … [Read more...] about .40 S&W Fading From Police Service?

Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin The chairman of the Senate Banking Committee, Sen. Sherrod Brown, has written letters to Tim Cook of Apple and Sundar Pichai of Google about the proliferation of fake crypto apps in their app stores. In recent years, apps that enable cryptocurrency fraud have popped up on Apple’s App Store and on Google Play. In some cases, they’re meant to spoof legitimate apps and trick users into giving up their login credentials, while others provide a medium to false exchange platforms. In either case, real people are getting their crypto stolen. The letters came hours before the committee held a hearing on “scams and risks in crypto and securities markets.” … [Read more...] about Apple And Google Are Hosting Fake Crypto Apps Designed To ‘Defraud Investors,’ Senator Says
- A + A SYDNEY (Sept 27): Australia's No 2 telecoms firm Optus, hit by a massive cyber attack, faced a barrage of criticism on Tuesday, with the government accusing it of trying to conceal the magnitude of the breach even as reports said hackers had deleted stolen data. The Australian federal government has blamed Optus for the breach, flagged an overhaul of privacy rules and higher fines, and suggested the company had "effectively left the window open" for hackers to steal data. Optus chief executive Kelly Bayer Rosmarin said there was lot of "misinformation out there". "Given we're not allowed to say much because the police have asked us not to, what I can say.... is that our data was encrypted and we had multiple players of protection," Rosmarin told ABC Radio . "So it is not the case of having some sort of completely exposed API (application programming interface) sitting out there," Rosmarin added. An API allows two or more computer programs to communicate … [Read more...] about Optus, Australian govt clash over cyber attack amid reports of hacker retreat
