May 16, 2022 by www.forbes.com

Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin The modern leader doesn’t just lead a company. The modern leader is a figurehead, a public persona, a personality. They have a story to tell and a message to share, both within their company and their industry. This story generates trust, buy-in and affinity and can be the difference between roaring success and abject failure. The problem? Many leaders make painful mistakes when telling their story, undermining their quest to inspire and empower. David Pearl is the author of Story For Leaders, a book that outlines how to create a compelling story and deliver it with impact. He is founder of non-profit social venture Street Wisdom, which transforms ordinary city streets around the world into inspirational learning zones through the power of storytelling. Beezy Bailey’s Balm For A Mad World Boughton House, Northamptonshire

May 17, 2022 by www.forbes.com

Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin “Everyone should own a Beezy Bailey.” David Bowie High praise indeed from the late great musician and artistic collaborator of the South African artist Beezy Bailey. After meeting in South Africa in the mid 1990s, David Bowie made at least 50 paintings with Beezy while recording his album Outside in New York. If owning a painting or sculpture by Mr. Bailey isn’t a possibility, seeing his colorful, energetic work certainly is, in two exhibitions organised by Everard Read gallery. More than 30 pieces are on show at Everard Read’s London gallery in Chelsea and in a site-specific exhibition at Boughton House , a glorious historic home in Northamptonshire. The exhibition provides a rare opportunity for public visits. Viewing the art, along with house tours and exploring the gardens is currently possible at Boughton but it’s not regularly accessible like other stately homes. Boughton House, the historic seat … [Read more...] about Beezy Bailey’s Balm For A Mad World Boughton House, Northamptonshire

So you want to move to Vietnam?

December 12, 2019 by thethaiger.com

“Whilst Thailand is often nicknamed the ‘land of a thousand 7-elevens’, with a convenience store on just about every corner, there are very few of these in Vietnam, for now.” With the Thai Baht on a high at the moment, along with stricter enforcement of visa rules, some expats say they’ve had enough and are heading to Vietnam, or some other south east Asian country, where they might improve their personal situation. For example, an expat pensioner, on a fixed income, from a country where the Thai baht has risen against your currency, Thailand has become a more expensive option – perhaps impossible to make ends meet anymore with your old pension. The British pound, as just one currency, has gone from around 55 baht to the pound four years ago, to now around 39 baht, a big loss in value. Meanwhile the cost of living in Thailand has risen over the last decade. But Vietnam has its own challenges and, whilst being an amazing place to explore as a tourist, may not be to everyone’s … [Read more...] about So you want to move to Vietnam?

8 Things I Learned From The 2022 Berkshire Hathaway Meeting

April 30, 2022 by www.forbes.com

Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Today Warren Buffett and Charlie Munger held court at the 2022 Berkshire Hathaway BRK.B BRK.A shareholder meeting. I’ve attended the event twice in Omaha. This year I watched on my iPad from a Starbucks SBUX in Ocean City, Maryland. Watching it live in Omaha is better. Yet as always, Buffett and Munger imparted their wisdom as only they can. Here are seven things I learned. 1. Berkshire Earnings Declined 53%, But Not Really The headline number for Q1 2022 was a decline of earnings from $11.71 billion last year to $5.46 billion this year. Dig a bit deeper into the numbers, however, and you realize why Warren Buffett has criticized an accounting rule that requires Berkshire to report unrealized investment gains and losses on its statement of operations. Berkshire’s operating earnings increased year over year. In Q1 2021 the company’s operations earned $7.018 billion (after tax). In the first three … [Read more...] about 8 Things I Learned From The 2022 Berkshire Hathaway Meeting
