Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Prior to the release of Shah Rukh Khan’s Pathaan , the stage was rather dim for the film and the Indian actor. Not many Hindi films worked since the pandemic-induced shutdown of theatres and Khan had not featured in a single feature film since his last outing - a box office dud that came out in 2018 ( Zero ). The factors made the filmmakers, as well as industry trade experts apprehensive of the box office figures of the new film. All the apprehensions were put to rest on January 25 when Pathaan released to unprecedented and unexpected numbers worldwide, becoming the highest Indian film opener ever. After completing seven weeks at the box office, Pathaan has roughly made worldwide gross earnings of $135 million in 50 days of the release. The Hindi version of the film made nett collections of $68.5 million in India alone. After all these days, the film continues to be screened across 800 screens in India and 135 cinemas … [Read more...] about Shah Rukh Khan’s ‘Pathaan’ Earns $135 Million In 50 Days: A Look At The Film’s Politics

TikTok Ban Isn’t About Targeting Youth Culture – But It Kinda Is
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin TikTok is widely popular among the younger generation around the world, and the large majority of TikTok users are between the ages of 18 and 34. There is also little denying that older folks likely simply don't get it. For those reasons, TikTok could be seen as just the latest youth/pop culture fad that is being targeted unfairly. History Lesson In 1921, legislators in 37 states introduced almost one hundred film censorship bills aimed to address the threat from motion pictures, which lawmakers and various religious and civic groups warned was introducing morally questionable content on the masses. LinkedIn turns 20: An oral history of an unlikely champion
When LinkedIn launched, on May 5, 2003, it wasn’t a given that it would thrive. Born during the doldrums after the original dotcom bust, it arrived at the same time as a flurry of other social networking upstarts, most of which quickly fizzled. Eventually, it was not having a LinkedIn profile that was perceived as a weird career move. As the pandemic and its aftermath have reshaped work, the service has both reflected that new world and equipped workers and employers to succeed in it. Its emphasis on professionalism also offers a safe harbor from more toxic and polarizing social platforms. LinkedIn hasn’t escaped the current tech downturn—in February, it … [Read more...] about LinkedIn turns 20: An oral history of an unlikely champion
I tried the MasterClass for chefs. Here’s what I learned
If your laptop isn’t being flecked with olive oil spatter during a decathlon of online cooking classes, you’re probably doing something wrong. Of course, you’re probably doing something wrong anyway. That’s just the nature of this journey. After a couple of weeks using YesChef , my laptop was once again in shambles. Shiny smudges on the trackpad. Crusty texture on the keys. And yes, greasy Jackson Pollock oil droplets—the kind that need to be scraped, not scrubbed—all over the screen. There was no time to worry about that, though. Not while juggling two full fry pans for an imminent dinner party. Instead, I had to look past the residue on my screen and do exactly what the tiny Nancy Silverton who lives there commanded, as though she were the rat from Ratatouille . Luckily, the weeks leading up to this moment didn’t just turn my laptop into a backsplash and my kitchen into a test kitchen: They also turned me into a more confident home cook. The concept behind … [Read more...] about I tried the MasterClass for chefs. Here’s what I learned
