In fact, it found that being denied an abortion results in worse financial, health and family outcomes. Another study by JAMA Psychiatry found that women seeking and being denied abortions reported significantly more mental health issues eight days later. They suffered more anxiety, poor self-esteem and low life satisfaction—but similar levels of depression—as women receiving abortions. Rumblings In The Workplace In response to the Roe v. The deeply divisive Supreme Court ruling overturning the landmark Roe v. Wade verdict, that upheld the abortion rights of women, has triggered outrage around the world. The Roe v. Wade verdict had come out in 1973 on an appeal filed by a Texas waitress Norma McCorvey, who became known by her pseudonym Jane Roe. McCorvey wanted to terminate her pregnancy but the laws of Texas prohibited her from doing so. So she filed a suit in 1970 against Henry Wade, the district attorney of Dallas county. The Supreme Court ruled in her favour but the verdict came in 1973. By that time, she had birthed a daughter and given her up for adoption. Roe May Be Gone, But Red States Still Face Major Roadblocks On Abortion Bans
Republican-led states are contending with challenges to their laws restricting abortion, despite the Supreme Court overturning Roe v. Wade with June’s Dobbs v. Jackson decision. Government officials and activists have attacked pro-life legislation in Louisiana, Kentucky, Idaho, Kansas and elsewhere, according to the Associated Press . Such laws have faced court challenges to their active status as judges weigh their constitutionality. Voters in Kansas rejected a proposed state constitutional amendment on Tuesday that would have declared abortion was not a right according to the state’s constitution. The measure also sought to deny state constitutional protection of government abortion funding. The most uncomfortable secret lingering under the corporate reaction to the reversal of ‘Roe’
Perhaps the most uncomfortable secret lingering under the corporate reaction to the Supreme Court’s reversal of Roe v. Wade is that we could have severely diminished the likelihood of ending up in this situation had we closed the gender equity gap decades ago. advertisement advertisement Too little, too late. And now we’re left playing defense. Within days of the Roe ruling, more than 100 companies employing millions of Americans expanded abortion-related health benefits. Patagonia went as far as offering to bail out employees who “peacefully protest for reproductive justice.” As a CEO myself, I also implemented immediate changes to employee benefits following the Court’s announcement (more on those changes later). However, reacting to inequitable public policy cannot excuse us from taking steps to close the gender equity gap at our companies. Because equity in the workplace begets equity in politics. As we approximate the … [Read more...] about The most uncomfortable secret lingering under the corporate reaction to the reversal of ‘Roe’

Wyoming Abortion Ban Blocked In Court—Here’s Where State Lawsuits Stand Now
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Topline Wyoming’s abortion ban will remain blocked in court as the litigation against it moves forward, a state judge ruled Wednesday, as abortion providers file a string of lawsuits aiming to halt state-level bans that went into effect following the U.S. Supreme Court overturning Roe v. Wade. Key Facts Wyoming: A state judge issued a preliminary injunction on Wednesday blocking the state’s trigger law, which banned all abortions in the state with exceptions for rape, incest and medical emergencies, after previously pausing the law for just two weeks, siding with abortion providers who argued the law was overly vague and ruling it “lacks any guidance” for providers who are unsure if a patient they have can legally get an abortion. Kentucky: A state judge issued a restraining order on June 30 that blocked both the state’s total ban on abortion and a separate ban on the procedure after approximately six … [Read more...] about Wyoming Abortion Ban Blocked In Court—Here’s Where State Lawsuits Stand Now
