MOUs and MOAs worth RM451 mil inked at MAHA 2022

August 8, 2022 by www.theedgemarkets.com

- A + A SERDANG (Aug 8): Four memorandums of understanding (MOUs)  and agreement worth RM451 million have been signed at the Malaysia Agriculture, Horticulture and Agro Tourism Expo (MAHA) 2022, which is taking place from Aug 4 to 14. The strategic partnerships under a Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industries (MAFI) initiative through the Federal Agricultural Marketing Authority  (FAMA) aim to assist small and medium enterprises (SMEs) explore overseas export markets of agro-food-based products. Agriculture and Food Industries Minister Datuk Seri Ronald Kiandee said the signing of the MOUs and MOAs on Monday (Aug 8) was part of the 29 agreements formalised at MAHA 2022. “Today’s partnership agreements between various parties comprised overseas and local entrepreneurs. “This will lift local products and products produced by SMEs, as well as provide space for products to be sent overseas through marketing agents who signed the MOUs this time,” he told the media … [Read more...] about MOUs and MOAs worth RM451 mil inked at MAHA 2022

Google Equiano: Internet giant bets big on Africa with latest megaproject

August 8, 2022 by edition.cnn.com

(CNN) On July 1, a cable emerged from the Atlantic Ocean in Swakopmund, a small coastal city in western Namibia. Mostly known as a seaside resort, Swakopmund is used to visitors. But the giant ship out at sea, the string of buoys, and a fleet of smaller vessels manned by workers in hard hats and fluorescent bibs was an arrival of a different kind. Running for thousands of miles along the bottom of the sea, the cable's landing had been delayed for months by rough conditions and Covid-19 . But now here it was, a couple of inches wide and already covered in sand. A welcome party stood on the beach and posed for photos before the cable continued inland. Equiano had finally arrived. Equiano is the latest subsea internet cable financed by Google. Starting in Portugal and eventually ending in South Africa, with branches to Nigeria , Togo, the islands of St Helena, and Namibia, the 15,000-kilometer (9,320-mile) cable is designed to deliver high-speed broadband along the west coast of … [Read more...] about Google Equiano: Internet giant bets big on Africa with latest megaproject

Landmark climate and health care bill won’t crush corporate profits, Goldman Sachs says

August 8, 2022 by edition.cnn.com

New York (CNN) Even as some business groups cry foul over the tax provisions in the Inflation Reduction Act, economists at Goldman Sachs say the landmark bill will barely put a dent in massive corporate profits. To pay for historic climate investments, the legislation that passed the Senate on Sunday imposes a 15% minimum corporate tax and a 1% tax on stock buybacks. But the fallout from these tax provisions will be minimal, according to Goldman Sachs ( GS ) . The buyback tax and minimum corporate tax will lower per-share profits next year among S&P 500 companies by just 1.5%, according to a Goldman Sachs analysis published early Sunday. Companies that pay low effective tax rates -- such as health care and technology firms -- would see a bigger hit, the bank said. Overall, Goldman Sachs said the net fiscal impact of the Inflation Reduction Act "look very modest," translating to less than 0.1% of GDP over the next several years. That's … [Read more...] about Landmark climate and health care bill won’t crush corporate profits, Goldman Sachs says

Disney Plus Has The Potential To Become A $30 Billion Giant In Only 5 Years

May 11, 2020 by www.forbes.com

Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Disney recently announced that as of May 4, 2020, Disney Plus attained an astonishing 54.5 million subscribers worldwide, a mere six months after launch. This equates to an annual revenue of nearly $3.7 billion when taking into account the average monthly revenue per paid subscriber of $5.63 from its second quarter earnings report. While this is minuscule compared to the company’s total 2019 revenue of $69.5 billion, in a few short years Disney Plus has the potential to be a $30 billion giant. No kidding. During the May 5, 2020 earnings call, Bob Chapek, chief executive officer of The Walt Disney Company, commented, “As we’ve said our company’s top priority and key to our growth is our direct to consumer business. And I am pleased to say that the response to Disney Plus in particular has exceeded even our highest expectation.” But he remained cautious about predicting the future, saying, “We’re not really prepared to update … [Read more...] about Disney Plus Has The Potential To Become A $30 Billion Giant In Only 5 Years

Small names, big leaps: Analysts pin their hopes on small-caps to make money

August 8, 2022 by www.moneycontrol.com

Trade Watchlist Portfolio Message Set Alert live bse live nse live Volume Todays L/H More × Even though the recent rally in the market has been broad-based, small-cap stocks have been outperforming their larger peers, hinting that investors see growth coming from smaller companies. Since June 20, 2022 when the market hit the most recent bottom, the BSE Smallcap index has rallied nearly 18 percent. In comparison, the BSE Sensex has gained 13 percent and the BSE Midcap 16 percent in the same period. A cursory glance at the data shows outperformance is not centred on a single sector but across industries. Nonetheless, some of the biggest gainers come from auto ancillaries, capital goods, chemicals, construction materials and realty, IT and healthcare. Stocks of these sectors are benefitting from recovery in economic activities and capital expenditure that they have planned. For … [Read more...] about Small names, big leaps: Analysts pin their hopes on small-caps to make money

Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Since she opened their first property in 1999 with her husband Phil, turning the family’s South Africa safari lodge into Royal Malewane , Liz Biden has created hotels known for her exuberant, unique design and top of the line service: Birkenhead House waterfront in Hermanus; La Residence in the Cape Winelands town of Franschhoek; the art filled tower The Silo Hotel in Cape Town. But she continued to add on to the Royal Malewane lodges in the private Thornybush reserve next to Kruger National Park. The latest: the opulent, eclectic, vividly colored and perfectly located for wildlife viewing Waterside opened in mid July. The designs in the 8 freestanding suites (six with one bedroom, one with two and a four bedroom house) mix furnishings that would look right at home in city Presidential Suites with local African artifacts and art. Here’s Why You Won’t Be Testing For Monkeypox At Home Anytime Soon

August 8, 2022 by www.forbes.com

Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Dr. Matt Binnicker, an expert in the diagnosis of infectious diseases, discusses how testing for monkeypox is performed and how it differs from Covid-19. Monkeypox virus , once considered a rare viral infection mainly confined to the continent of Africa, has now been confirmed in over 28,000 cases worldwide, including more than 7,500 in the United States. Last week, the Biden Administration declared monkeypox a public health emergency, including plans to expand the availability of vaccines and testing. As of right now, the only way to confirm a positive monkeypox case is to send a sample to a lab, which is why the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recently partnered with 5 commercial labs to expand testing capacity. Monkeypox is spread primarily through direct contact with a lesion (or rash) that contains the virus. Many cases in the current outbreak have been associated with sexual transmission of … [Read more...] about Here’s Why You Won’t Be Testing For Monkeypox At Home Anytime Soon
