Don’t beware the Ides of March.Be aware, instead, of March 13, 2019 — New Year’s Day on the National Football League calendar.Wednesday is when the Broncos endeavor to become relevant in the room again.Feb. 7, 2016 seems so distant ago. Set your clocks ahead.Since Peyton Manning retired three years ago in March, the Broncos have won only 20 of 48 games and wasted with — preposterously! — 10 quarterbacks. Count ‘em: Trevor Siemian, Paxton Lynch, Mark Sanchez, Brock Osweiler, Kyle Sloter, Case Keenum, Kevin Hogan, Garrett Grayson and, lest we forget, Chad Kelly and Nick Stevens. Only Hogan and Grayson, who’ve never played a game for the Broncos and likely never will, remain.Broncos antihero Joe Flacco officially will become the 11th quarterback of the P.M. (Post-Manning) Era Wednesday. That’s also the day the Broncos can sign unrestricted free agents, make offers to restricted free agents and make trades.Big Day.The Broncos … [Read more...] about Woody Paige: Denver Broncos must march in when NFL year starts Wednesday
The Washington Redskins have agreed to acquire quarterback Case Keenum from the Denver Broncos, according to a person familiar with the discussions. The deal is being held up as both sides work out financial details. NFL Network was the first to report the trade. The Redskins will send a sixth- and seventh-round pick in the 2020 draft to Denver. Denver has reworked Keenum’s contract so it will pay him a $500,000 restructuring bonus and will take on $3,5 million of Keenum’s salary. The Redskins will also pay Keenum $3.5 million. Mike Klis of Denver 9 was the first to report the salary details. Trades cannot be announced officially until the new league year starts on March 13 but Washington will want to complete a deal before teams can begin talking to other teams’ free agents on Monday. Keenum is not the big-name quarterback many expected the Redskins to chase this spring, but with franchise quarterback Alex Smith unlikely to play in 2019 and perhaps never again after … [Read more...] about Redskins agree to deal for ex-Vikings QB Case Keenum
Nick Baumgardner Detroit Free Press Published 6:33 PM EST Feb 2, 2019 The third time was the charm for Ty Law. The former Michigan All-American defensive back and three-time Super Bowl champion had his name put in football history forever Saturday when he was voted in as a member of the 2019 Pro Football Hall of Fame class. Law — who was a finalist for the third time in his five years of eligibility — becomes the ninth person with Michigan ties to enter the prestigious Hall of Fame, joining coach George Allen, offensive lineman Dan Dierdorf, defensive lineman Len Ford, quarterback Benny Friedman, end/fullback Bill Hewitt, halfback Elroy Hirsch, offensive lineman Tom Mack and team owner Ralph Wilson, Jr. Former Michigan offensive lineman Steven Hutchinson was also in the top 15 as a modern-era finalist this year but will have to wait at least another year to get the call. The other modern-era inductees selected Saturday … [Read more...] about Ex-Michigan DB Ty Law to enter Pro Football Hall of Fame
By Cam Inman | [email protected] | Bay Area News GroupPUBLISHED: January 16, 2019 at 4:40 pm | UPDATED: January 17, 2019 at 4:53 am SANTA CLARA — Jimmy Garoppolo, Nick Mullens and C.J. Beathard will have a new quarterbacks coach when they report back for the 49ers offseason program in April. That assumes one of them – particularly Mullens, then Beathard — doesn’t first get dealt to the Denver Broncos, who hired Rich Scangarello on Wednesday as a first-time offensive coordinator. Scangarello spent the past two years as the 49ers quarterbacks coach. He schooled up a steady rotation of starters, from Brian Hoyer to Beathard to Garoppolo to Beathard again to Mullens, the latter of whom Scangarello campaigned to sign after the Southern Miss quarterback went undrafted in 2017. The Broncos quarterback situation has been unstable since Peyton Manning left after the 2015 season’s Super Bowl run. Case Keenum went 6-10 this season — including a Dec. … [Read more...] about Could ex-49ers QB coach take Garoppolo backup to Broncos?
