INQUIRER.net FILE PHOTO TAGUM CITY — A former top executive of the National Electrification Administration (NEA) has urged member-consumers of the Northern Davao Electric Cooperative (Nordeco) to continue raising their voice against the planned entry of the Aboitiz-owned Davao Light and Power Company (DLPC) into its franchise area or else they would fall into the supposed ‘profit motive’ of the firm. Edgrado Masongsong, secretary general of the National Center of Electric Consumers Cooperative (NCECCO), warned Nordeco member consumers that if they allow DLPC to take over several areas of its franchise, the members would turn into “mere rental payers” of the power distribution company. Unlike private power companies, which are allowed to raise power rates in the era of deregulation, power coops still continue to consult with their members and even report to them the cooperative’s financial status every end of the year. Masongsong, a former NEA administrator, cited their … [Read more...] about Ex-NEA exec warns vs ‘profit motive’ of Aboitiz firm in taking over Davao electric coop franchise

Public Relations During A Recession: What You Need To Know To Move Your Business Forward
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Victoria Kennedy is a Wall Street Journal best-selling author, TEDx speaker, and the CEO of Victorious PR . For some time now, economists have been speculating about the next recession, questioning whether 2023 will indeed be the year of the next economic downturn. Most believe that it’s likely to happen this year, so questions have shifted to “How long will it last?” Many consumers are paying more attention than ever to where they are spending their money. For this reason and many others, businesses need to ensure that they are seen as the best and most reputable. Naturally—and logically—this leads to informed discussions about strategy, sales, client retention, client relationships and so much more. While marketing might be the first thing that pops into a lot of business owners’ minds, the answer for many becomes public relations. Many view PR as a want, not a need, but with influencer marketing and … [Read more...] about Public Relations During A Recession: What You Need To Know To Move Your Business Forward
The mindset shift you need in order to stop your inner voice from sabotaging you
One of my favorite lines in a song comes from—wait for it—Katy Perry’s Roar : “I stood for nothing, so I fell for everything,” which is a cue for my youngest daughter to sprint to her costume pile, and the rest of my family to start dancing like crazy around our house. Anytime I am in a situation where I feel like keeping my hand down instead of raising it or swallowing a comment because I felt like my voice wasn’t the most important one in the room, I remember that line. If you don’t stand up for yourself, you are allowing someone else to choose your path. It’s only when you find your voice and stand your ground that you realize you always had the ability to do it, you just had to stand up for yourself. As often happens in my life, I learned this lesson the hard way, as a charity auctioneer. Tell me if this sounds familiar. You walk into a meeting filled with people of all ages and genders. This scenario doesn’t have to be in an office, it could be a classroom, a … [Read more...] about The mindset shift you need in order to stop your inner voice from sabotaging you
Barriers To Employment Fall With The Rise Of Out-Of-State Occupational License Recognition
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Income tax rate reduction and flattening, along with the expansion of school choice, are among the most consequential policy trends of the early 2020s. However, there is another policy trend emerging that, like income tax relief and greater educational choice, is making states more attractive to workers and employers. That trend is the push by policymakers to remove or mitigate the barriers to employment that state occupational licensing requirements have become. On Tuesday, March 21, Florida legislators will hold a hearing on Senate Bill 1364, legislation to recognize out-of-state occupational licenses held by new residents so that they can get to work and begin earning income in their new home state right away. If this reform, known as Universal License Recognition (ULR), is passed by legislators in Tallahassee and signed into law by Governor Ron DeSantis (R) this spring, Florida would become state number 22 to enact ULR. … [Read more...] about Barriers To Employment Fall With The Rise Of Out-Of-State Occupational License Recognition
How A TikTok Ban Would Deal A Blow To Creators, Businesses And The American Economy
A U.S. ban on the world’s most popular social media app would affect far more American businesses and people than just the 150 million using the platform here. C asey Evertsen drove down a suburban Utah street lined with trash bins, speaking into his phone’s camera as he gave a tour of the brightly-colored truck he uses for his garbage can-cleaning business. “If you like seeing dirty stuff get cleaned and watching how cool stuff works, follow along,” he said in the video shared on TikTok. “Let’s clean some bins!” Evertsen’s service, Bin Blasters , had for a whole year struggled to get traction through Facebook and Instagram. So taking a cue from his teenage daughter, he decided to try promoting it on TikTok instead. On his eighth video, just one month in, Evertsen “blew up.” "I went out and just started cleaning bins that day, started on our route, and I look at my phone like an hour later, and there's 17,000 views,” he recalled. “Then it just got in the millions.” … [Read more...] about How A TikTok Ban Would Deal A Blow To Creators, Businesses And The American Economy

Violence vs women, kids: Why SC tagged marital infidelity as a crime
COMPOSITE IMAGE: DANIELLA MARIE AGACER (INQ STOCK PHOTOS) MANILA, Philippines—A recent Supreme Court (SC) decision strengthened a 2004 law, which seeks to address the prevalence of violence against women and their children (VAWC) by their intimate partners. Looking back, no less than former presidents Rodrigo Duterte and Joseph Estrada had flaunted their philandering ways. Sometimes, they even appear to be trivializing what they’re doing, making it less complex than it really is. But as Psych Central said, “infidelity can have lasting impacts on partners and children the couple may have,” stressing that “grief, brain changes, behaviors down the road, and mental health conditions such as anxiety, chronic stress, and depression can result.” Now, almost 20 years since Republic Act (RA) No. 9262, or the Anti-Violence Against Women and their Children Act, was enacted into law, the SC held that marital infidelity is one of the forms of psychological violence, which can be penalized … [Read more...] about Violence vs women, kids: Why SC tagged marital infidelity as a crime
Kira Balinger denies third party accusations against her: I don’t run after men, they come to me

Earlier this year, Vytiaco exposed Miranda’s alleged infidelity with Balinger by showing a screenshot of the actors’ conversation. A part of the conversation showed Balinger’s supposed suggestive request to “take something off,” as well as Miranda’s alleged confession of his feelings for the actress. Balinger broke her silence on the issue in an interview with Philippine Entertainment Portal during the press conference of her upcoming film “Maple Leaf Dreams” last Tuesday, March 21. “Hindi po ako third wheel. Kung ano po ‘yung naging usapan nilang dalawa ng ex nila, wala po akong alam du’n, out na po ako du’n (I was not a third wheel. Breaking Down The Case Against Trump: New York Prosecutors Must Prove Complex Legal Theory—And It Could Be Risky
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Topline The Manhattan district attorney is reportedly toying with what experts have called an untested legal theory in potentially bringing charges against former President Donald Trump—adding to the unprecedented nature of a case that could mark the first-ever indictment of a former president. Key Facts The primary charge prosecutors are considering is whether Trump falsified business records when the Trump Organization reimbursed his former lawyer and fixer Michael Cohen for payments made to adult film star Stormy Daniels during his 2016 campaign for the presidency in exchange for her silence about her alleged 2006 affair with Trump, according to multiple reports . Prosecutors must prove that Trump orchestrated the payments, but legal experts have said his lawyers could argue that Cohen made the deal on Trump’s behalf and without his knowledge (though Cohen has explicitly, and repeatedly, said he did so … [Read more...] about Breaking Down The Case Against Trump: New York Prosecutors Must Prove Complex Legal Theory—And It Could Be Risky
