Andrew Forrest travels the globe trying to persuade leaders of industry and politics — and rank-and-file workers — that despite his polluting past he’s the man to champion green hydrogen as the clean fuel of the future. M ore than a couple of the dozen or so coal-plant workers gathered at West Virginia’s Pleasants Power Station in April to hear Andrew Forrest push his green hydrogen agenda rolled their eyes as he spoke. “I believe this coal-fired power station has a huge future,” the Australian mining billionaire told them. The employees could be forgiven for their skepticism. Just weeks before, they learned their plant, surrounded by other closures throughout coal country, would be the latest to shut down . Forrest’s message was heartfelt, contrarian and a bit pie in the sky. In West Virginia, the second-largest coal-producing region in the U.S., Forrest told the workers that 22 of the state’s 26 coal-powered plants could be converted to green hydrogen plants. Good Immigration News On Green Cards And Afghan Parole
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Action in Congress on green cards and an administrative change on humanitarian parole by U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) has injected a rare bit of good news on immigration policy. The coming weeks will reveal if the news remains positive. Humanitarian Parole: When the Biden administration decided to follow through on Donald Trump’s agreement with the Taliban to withdraw U.S. troops from Afghanistan, the central government in Kabul fell too quickly for many Afghans to escape to safety. Biden officials used parole authority to bring tens of thousands of Afghans to America. However, that still left many other Afghans in danger. “Months after the United States pulled out of Afghanistan, Andisha Shah [a U.S. resident] is still waiting to be reunited with her sister and nephews,” reported PBS NewsHour . “Since last September, they’ve been in Pakistan, where they were relocated after the Taliban … [Read more...] about Good Immigration News On Green Cards And Afghan Parole
Americans Want To Buy Green, But They Don’t Trust Companies
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin The vast majority of Americans worry about the environmental impact of their purchases. And, even in these inflationary times, they’re willing to pay more for sustainable products. But there’s also quite a trust gap: Few believe corporations’ claims of being green. That’s what a recent survey of consumers learned. Called the Business of Sustainability Index , the annual study, conducted by GreenPrint , polled around 1,000 consumers in March about their attitudes towards sustainable products and corporate responsibility. The findings offer encouraging news for social enterprises targeting climate and environmental issues, as well as cautionary results for companies engaging in greenwashing. “Consumers have a significant unmet need related to their purchasing decisions,” says GreenPrint CEO Pete Davis. “And that translates into a risk for businesses that don’t react and an opportunity for those that do.” … [Read more...] about Americans Want To Buy Green, But They Don’t Trust Companies

Riding the green wave
Only two weeks after decriminalising cannabis, Thailand is experiencing a green rush. Since June 9, when the legalisation of marijuana for home and commercial use took effect, almost 1 million people registered to grow it with food and drug officials, while more than 40 million have checked out the registration platform. There's a growing public interest in the cash crop -- though some farmers remain doubtful -- and it is paving the way for "cannabis journalism". Legalisation is not new in some parts of the world. In the wake of legalising recreational marijuana in Colorado in 2012, Ricardo Baca, a veteran journalist, launched The Cannabist , an outlet dedicated to the coverage of marijuana, in late 2013. In an article, he said his editors at The Denver Post asked him to start the project. In fact, their coverage of weed dates back to medical legalisation in 2000. I tried to check the website, but it is not available in this region. While a cannabis press does not exist here, … [Read more...] about Riding the green wave
