EU’s Ban On Russian Diesel To Stoke Turmoil In Global Fuel Markets

February 1, 2023 by www.forbes.com

Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Gasoline prices are rising again – up more than 30 cents a gallon in the past month and around 15 cents in the last two weeks alone. Motorists should brace for more pain. One reason is that the global market for refined products is about to be upended by the latest European Union (EU) sanctions on Russia’s petroleum industry. On February 5, the EU will ban imports of Russian refined products like diesel, jet fuel, gasoline, and heating oil. While global oil markets have recently handled a similar ban on Russian crude imports quite well, these product sanctions could be far more disruptive. Markets for refined fuels are much more complex than for crude, with refineries configured to process certain types of feedstock crudes and to manufacture varying slates of products, depending on regional demand patterns. The issue for Europe is that it relies on Russia for about 40 percent of its refined product imports and … [Read more...] about EU’s Ban On Russian Diesel To Stoke Turmoil In Global Fuel Markets

3 Ways Listening To Employee Feedback Can Contribute To Business Growth

January 10, 2022 by www.forbes.com

Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Employees are arguably a company’s greatest asset, and right now, they’re resigning at unprecedented rates. A recent report from the US Bureau of Labor Statistics found 4.3 million Americans left their jobs in a single month. This mass exodus is disrupting the economy across the retail, hospitality, manufacturing, healthcare, technology and supply chain sectors. Employers need to understand why employees are seeking new jobs and then take action to stem employee attrition. Many factors are contributing to employee flight, from a desire for higher compensation to burnout. The Covid-19 pandemic also brought new challenges, including the risk of potential exposure and balancing homeschooling and caregiving with remote work. While these factors are not all within employers’ control, a new poll from Wakefield Research and Explorance, sheds light on the hidden drivers of “The Great Resignation.” A key finding of the study is that … [Read more...] about 3 Ways Listening To Employee Feedback Can Contribute To Business Growth

PHUKET MEDIA WATCH – World news selected by Gazette editors for Phuket’s international community Syrian forces pound Damascus suburbs Reuters / Phuket Gazette PHUKET: Syrian forces pounded rebel-held suburbs around Damascus with fighter jets and rockets yesterday, opposition activists said, killing and wounding dozens in an offensive to push rebels away from the airport and stop them closing in on the capital. The army struck hard after a week of rebel advances, including the capture of two military bases near the capital. Rebels had been planning to push into central Damascus from their strongholds on the outskirts and fighting in the past week has been fierce. Activists said heavy rocket fire struck towns close to the Damascus airport road, where rebels and the army had been locked in three days of clashes. Coronavirus Could Be A $12 Billion Hit To Entertainment And Audiences May Never Be The Same

March 18, 2020 by www.forbes.com

Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin They’re all closed. Movie Theaters. Bars. Nightclubs. Arenas. Cafes. In New York, Broadway and museums are shuttered. In San Francisco it’s even more dire. Across the country and the world, cities are shutting down, leaving humans from Seattle to Shanghai without traditional ways of finding distraction. The mandate for social distancing that has proven essential at slowing the spread of the coronavirus will cut about $12 billion of entertainment revenue from the U.S. if the shutdown lasts until July, as President Trump signaled . Billions more are not being spent on creating new content as film and television production is frozen. Things could get a lot worse. “ This is definitely unprecedented and turning everyone's lives completely upside down,” says Ryan Borba, managing editor at concert tracker Pollstar. The concert and live event industry brought in $34 billion last year, according to … [Read more...] about Coronavirus Could Be A $12 Billion Hit To Entertainment And Audiences May Never Be The Same

Activision Blizzard Will Pay SEC $35 Million To Settle Claims

February 3, 2023 by www.forbes.com

Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Topline Activision Blizzard agreed to pay $35 million to resolve claims it lacked an adequate process to assess workplace misconduct complaints, the Securities and Exchange Commission announced Friday, following allegations of sexual assault and mistreatment of women at the company in recent years. Key Facts The SEC said Activision Blizzard’s payment will settle charges that claim the video game giant did not have adequate measures to assess workplace misconduct reports and violated a whistleblower protection rule—claims Activision Blizzard neither confirmed nor denied. The federal agency said because of a lack of procedures to determine the breadth of complaints, the company could not adequately decide whether it should disclose them to investors. Trucking Unicorn KeepTruckin Lays Off Nearly One-Fifth Of Workers As Coronavirus Downturn Hits Freight

April 1, 2020 by www.forbes.com

Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Trucking unicorn KeepTruckin laid off nearly one-fifth of its workers, the latest once-hot, venture-backed firm to be hit by the downturn. An alum of last year’s Forbes Next Billion-Dollar Startups list, KeepTruckin reached a valuation of $1.4 billion last April as cash was pouring into the trucking industry. But as the coronavirus crisis has spread and pummeled the economy, the fortunes of KeepTruckin, which provides electronic logging devices to truckers, turned. On Tuesday, cofounder and CEO Shoaib Makani sent an email to employees that it was laying off 18% of its global workforce — a total of 349 people out of 1,900 — effective immediately. The news was first reported by trade publication FreightWaves. “Freight volume is highly correlated with economic output,” Makani told Forbes by email. “It is impossible to predict the full impact of COVID-19 on the global economy and how that will flow through to … [Read more...] about Trucking Unicorn KeepTruckin Lays Off Nearly One-Fifth Of Workers As Coronavirus Downturn Hits Freight

China Announced Cross-Border Travel Between Hong Kong and Macau Will Resume on February 6

February 3, 2023 by www.chiangraitimes.com

(CTN News) – On Friday, China announced it would fully resume cross-border travel between the mainland, Hong Kong, and Macau, dropping existing quotas and eliminating the mandatory COVID-19 test . According to a statement on the website of China’s Hong Kong and Macau Affairs Office, group tours between China and its two special administrative regions would resume, while customs checkpoints would return to pre-pandemic levels. Even though China reopened its borders on January 8 , a quota system and COVID testing requirement remain for travelers between the mainland and Hong Kong. Hong Kong has yet to reopen three of its border checkpoints. As a result of China’s announcement, Hong Kong announced today that it would launch a promotion campaign including 500,000 free flights to attract back visitors, businesses, and investors after more than three years of tough COVID restrictions . Manchester United Reportedly Interested In Signing FC Barcelona Prodigy Ansu Fati

February 3, 2023 by www.forbes.com

Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Manchester United are reportedly interested in signing Ansu Fati from FC Barcelona. The 20-year-old who inherited Lionel Messi's '10' shirt and signed a new contract through to 2027 with a €1bn ($1.09bn) release clause in October 2021 is currently struggling for form in Xavi Hernandez's La Liga-leading first team. In the club legend's successful new system of four midfielders , there is only space for one pure winger on the right flank which appears to be Raphinha amid Ousmane Dembele's fresh injury. Gavi, or sometimes Pedri, operates as a false left winger, in an area of the park where Fati is often deployed. In games where Robert Lewandowski has been suspended, the Guinea-Bissau-born prodigy has also failed to impress as a striker and was hooked by Xavi in favor of Alejandro Balde at Girona last Saturday where Pedri scored the winner in a scrappy 1-0 victory. Barca are currently faced with a dilemma, as La … [Read more...] about Manchester United Reportedly Interested In Signing FC Barcelona Prodigy Ansu Fati

February 3, 2023 by www.forbes.com
