AI Ethical Risks In the Music Industry Are Accelerating And We Are Not Ready For What Is Coming Our Way

January 31, 2023 by www.forbes.com

Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin I wrote two articles over the weekend researching the impact of AI on the Music Industry as one of the art domains being impacted by AI. You can read both of these blogs here: The first article focuses on Google’s recent MusicLM announcement and the risks without increased copyright law in place. The second article continues this discussion but broadens it with other examples. The more I dug into this area, I realized how much is at stake and the risks to our Arts Community and to all the musicians who bring so much joy to our lives. However, there is trouble afoot and it’s increasing. Why do a career in music and spend years mastering a craft when an AI model will eventually be able to consistently produce an award winning master piece? It’s simply a matter of time. Yes, I appreciate that creative capabilities of an AI model is not close to reality as Meta Chief Data Scientist, Yann Lecun, said to … [Read more...] about AI Ethical Risks In the Music Industry Are Accelerating And We Are Not Ready For What Is Coming Our Way

On September 13, 1970, the economist Milton Friedman published “A Friedman Doctrine – The Social Responsibility of Business Is to Increase Its Profits” as an op-ed in The New York Times. The article was of a moment, likening corporate social responsibility to socialism and setting a standard that business executives should prioritize profits above all else. According to Friedman, corporate responsibility was not tied to fighting inflation, lowering unemployment, caring for people or reducing environmental impact. Instead, Friedman argues, “there is one and only one social responsibility of business—to use its resources and engage in activities designed to increase its profits.” This argument held significant sway over our collective thinking about businesses and their role in our communities and … [Read more...] about Social Responsibility: How Companies Can Create Value That Truly Lasts

How Musicians Are Fashioning Creativity With AI

January 31, 2023 by www.forbes.com

Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Google GOOG recently announced the creation of a new AI system, MusicLM, which is capable of generating music in any genre using a mere text description. TechCrunch reports that , fearing the risks, the company has not announced a release date. As AI (artificial intelligence) gains a larger presence in the music industry, some artists remain wary of the technology while others are embracing the opportunities that it offers to power their songwriting creativity. One company helping bridge the gap is WaveAI and its advanced lyrical AI used by millions of artists and creators. WaveAI places artists at the center of its songwriting tools, collecting no royalties or ownership of their work. By enhancing human creativity rather than replacing it, cofounder and CEO of WaveAI, Dr. Maya Ackerman, a globally recognized expert in the field of generative AI, is setting a new standard for AI-powered songwriting. Drone Swarms Are Getting Too Fast For Humans To Fight, U.S. General Warns

January 27, 2021 by www.forbes.com

Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin General John Murray, head of Army Futures Command, told a webinar audience at the Center for Strategic & International Studies that humans may not be able to fight swarms of enemy drones, and that the rules governing human control over artificial intelligence might need to be relaxed. "When you are defending against a drone swarm, a human may be required to make that first decision, but I am just not sure any human can keep up," said Murray. "How much human involvement do you actually need when you are [making] nonlethal decisions from a human standpoint?" This indicates a new interpretation of the Pentagon’s rules on the use of autonomous weapons . These require meaningful human control over any lethal system, though that may be in a supervisory role rather than direct control – termed ‘human-on-the-loop’ rather than ‘human-in-the-loop.’ Murray said that Pentagon leaders need to lead a discussion on how … [Read more...] about Drone Swarms Are Getting Too Fast For Humans To Fight, U.S. General Warns

AI is having a moment—here’s how businesses can lean in

December 18, 2022 by www.fastcompany.com

In recent weeks, generative AI seems to have popped up everywhere in the mainstream—via the popularity of ChatGPT , the proliferation of text-to-image tools, and as avatars in our social media feeds. But beyond fun smartphone apps and handy ways for students to shirk essay-writing assignments, global adoption of AI will fundamentally change the way businesses operate, innovate, and scale in the near future. Babson College Professor Thomas Davenport and Nitin Mittal, head of U.S. artificial intelligence growth at Deloitte, are the authors of All In on AI: How Smart Companies Win Big With Artificial Intelligence , which will be published in late January 2023. Their book examines how companies including Alphabet, Ping An, Airbus, Walmart, and Capital One leverage AI in business strategy, key processes, change management, and competition. Here, Davenport and Mittal provide Fast Company with a primer on Generative AI along with an excerpt from their book offering an … [Read more...] about AI is having a moment—here’s how businesses can lean in
