Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin The USTA's Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Flushing, New York, hosts far more than tennis. The 46-acre site—home to the U.S. Open since 1978—still embraces all things tennis, but also welcomes a growing mix of events, from the upcoming Westminster Dog Show, Big 3 basketball, Fortnite World Cup Finals and All Elite Wresting. "We could bring in really almost anything imaginable," Chris Studley, the USTA's senior director for event services at the National Tennis Center, tells me. "We love anything." With a 45-year history of hosting tennis in New York, the National Tennis Center hasn't served as a major player in outside events (except for in 2008 when they hosted the WNBA's first-ever outdoor game). That approach changed when the center added a retractable roof on Arthur Ashe Stadium, the largest tennis stadium in the world, in 2017 and followed that up by opening the new Louis Armstrong Stadium, also with a … [Read more...] about USTA’s National Tennis Center About More Than Hosting Tennis

Atlanta United’s Thiago Almada May Have Boosted His Transfer Value Saturday … Without Playing
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Of all the voices calling for Major League Soccer to stop through FIFA international match windows, Thiago Almada’s agent is unlikely to be one of them. Almada’s value as arguably the most certain European-bound current MLS star has been in plain sight through his opening four games of the 2023 Regular season. The 21-year-old Argentine ( who is already a World Cup winner ) merely scored four goals and assisted four more to start the new campaign, helping his team earn 10 points from 12 in the process. But any lingering doubts of his value to his current club were truly erased by the misery his side endured on Saturday night in their first game of the year without him. With Almada one of several Atlanta players away on international duty, a team that entered having won back-to-back games by a combined seven-goal margin was on the other side of a 6-1 hiding to a Columbus Crew team also missing key internationals. And … [Read more...] about Atlanta United’s Thiago Almada May Have Boosted His Transfer Value Saturday … Without Playing
Does It Make Sense To Delay Motherhood For Your Career?
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin One major consideration for women, specifically women who want a family, is how motherhood will impact their careers. And one question these women often ask themselves is whether it makes sense to delay motherhood in order to realize their full potential. Motherhood penalizes professional women in several ways. Not only does it negatively affect their income and leadership status, it also influences their ability to get promoted and hired. They are often overlooked when it comes to career-advancing opportunities. Wyndham Hotels Grabs A Windfall From America’s Infrastructure Agenda
With thousands of construction workers and contractors needing long-term housing, the world’s largest hotel franchisor is launching a new brand for the booming boots-and-hardhat market. G eoff Ballotti is staring at a map on his office wall and likes what he sees. Nearly two dozen dots sprinkled across the United States represent future semiconductor factories. Outside of the microchip sector, few executives would seek out such a stodgy map from the Semiconductor Industry Association, let alone hang it on a wall. But for the CEO of Wyndham Hotels & Resorts (2022 revenue: $1.56 billion), each dot on that map represents a giant, flashing-light opportunity. Ballotti quickly rattles off examples of locations where new chip factories are slated to appear. Intel is building two plants in Chandler, Arizona, at around $30 billion a pop. In Texas, plants have been announced by Texas Instruments in Sherman ($30 billion) and by Samsung in Taylor ($25 billion). In Indiana, they are … [Read more...] about Wyndham Hotels Grabs A Windfall From America’s Infrastructure Agenda

Why ‘Creative Destruction’ Might Be Your Business’ Missing Piece
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Of the many things that can bring about the end of a business, few can be more lethal than stagnation — not changing or improving. As General Electric’s former CEO and management guru Jack Welch explained , this lack of inertia or momentum was one of the most dangerous things that could happen to a business: “When I try to summarize what I’ve learned since 1981, one of the big lessons is that change has no constituency. People like the status quo. They like the way it was. When you start changing things, the good old days look better and better. You’ve got to be prepared for massive resistance.” So how do you keep your own business from falling into stagnation? The solution very likely lies in the concept of creative destruction. With proper implementation, creative destruction can prove to be the missing piece your business needs to stand out from its competition in a meaningful way. Understanding Creative … [Read more...] about Why ‘Creative Destruction’ Might Be Your Business’ Missing Piece
