Katherine Bergeron has been the college’s president for nearly a decade but informed the school that she would be stepping down from her position at the end of the semester, according to her official statement. Take It From Notre Dame Top Leaders: They Can Save NCAA From NFL, NBA, NILs And Just About Everything Else
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Everything was true regarding what the two most powerful men associated with University of Notre Dame athletics wrote this week in an op-ed piece for the New York Times NYT about the state of college athletics. To paraphrase: Despite such things as CBS and Turner paying around $1 billion per year through 2032 for the men’s basketball tournament, doom and gloom are on the way for the NCAA, suggested Notre Dame president John I. Jenkins and Jack Swarbrick, the athletics director of the Fighting Irish. Among the evils cited by Jenkins and Swarbrick is the way college athletes are getting paid through name, image and likeness (NIL) deals. Well, some are, but the overwhelming majority of them aren’t. While quarterback Bryce Young finished his Alabama career in January earning an estimated $3.5 million in NIL deals, NIL platform INFLCR puts the median transaction at $53 . Which means if you think it … [Read more...] about Take It From Notre Dame Top Leaders: They Can Save NCAA From NFL, NBA, NILs And Just About Everything Else

What Is Chelsea’s Plan For Mykhailo Mudryk And Is He Doing Enough To Impress?
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin An image circulated around social media after England’s 2-0 win over Ukraine that depicted Bukayo Saka skipping away from Mykhailo Mudryk, pained expression, sat on the ground. Arsenal fans took delight in the sight of their winger prompting such a moment of reflection from a player who could have joined them in January. Mudryk was Arsenal’s top target for months before Chelsea swooped in. Now at Stamford Bridge instead, the 22-year-old has struggled to find his feet for his new club, going six Premier PINC League matches without finding the back of the net. Substituted after 60 minutes against England, Mudryk looked low on confidence. Potter has settled on a front three of Joao Felix, Kai Havertz and one other with Christian Pulisic possibly ahead of Mudryk in the pecking order as things currently stand. This raises the question - what is Chelsea’s plan for the Ukrainian winger? How will Mudryk fit into Potter’s … [Read more...] about What Is Chelsea’s Plan For Mykhailo Mudryk And Is He Doing Enough To Impress?
Lies, Cursed Lies, And Spreadsheets: A History Of Financial Calculations
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Bruce V. Roberts, CEO of Carofin , arranges direct private investments in growth companies by family offices and high net worth individuals. For over 100 years there has been debate among historians, and a few eccentric mathematicians, over the origin of the quote, “There are three types of lies: lies, damned lies and statistics.” If you’re English, you could go with the 1st Earl of Balfour in 1892 or Benjamin Disraeli, a leading politician at that time. If you’re American, you’re probably thinking Mark Twain came up with it (he didn’t). Either way, it’s time to update this clever phrase—given today’s technologies. Spreadsheets, created on personal computers, now generate most of the financial reports and other more challenging computations used worldwide, including the statistics our forebears were so suspicious of. Complex analysis doesn’t necessarily lead to better conclusions. Monster spreadsheets, … [Read more...] about Lies, Cursed Lies, And Spreadsheets: A History Of Financial Calculations

Atlanta United’s Thiago Almada May Have Boosted His Transfer Value Saturday … Without Playing
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Of all the voices calling for Major League Soccer to stop through FIFA international match windows, Thiago Almada’s agent is unlikely to be one of them. Almada’s value as arguably the most certain European-bound current MLS star has been in plain sight through his opening four games of the 2023 Regular season. The 21-year-old Argentine ( who is already a World Cup winner ) merely scored four goals and assisted four more to start the new campaign, helping his team earn 10 points from 12 in the process. But any lingering doubts of his value to his current club were truly erased by the misery his side endured on Saturday night in their first game of the year without him. With Almada one of several Atlanta players away on international duty, a team that entered having won back-to-back games by a combined seven-goal margin was on the other side of a 6-1 hiding to a Columbus Crew team also missing key internationals. And … [Read more...] about Atlanta United’s Thiago Almada May Have Boosted His Transfer Value Saturday … Without Playing
Stir Things up on International Whisk(e)y Day
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin In the Gaelic language, uisce na beatha or “the water of life” refers to whiskey. Just remember with the “e” is distilled in Ireland and the United States; no “e” is Scottish, Japanese and Canadian. Confused? Three Midfield Options For Manchester United To Pursue This Summer
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin As the summer transfer window edges nearer to opening at the beginning of July, Manchester United’s hierarchy will begin to assemble plans regardless of their ownership future being resolved. Whether the club are still owned by the Glazers or a new dawn has begun at Old Trafford, Erik Ten Hag will be pleading with the club this summer to sign new midfielders to bolster his squad. Here are three players that Manchester United are looking into: Romeo Lavia The former Manchester City academy graduate has taken the Premier PINC League by storm given he is only 19 years of age. Playing predominantly in defensive midfield, Manchester United have been monitoring the Belgium international this season now that he would be within the realms of possibility for acquiring. While Southampton have struggled this season, Lavia, alongside James Ward-Prowse, has been a shining light at St Mary’s.
