There is a new wave of the two Omicron sub-variant infections hitting a number of countries that had, until recently, seen a large drop in their Covid case loads. Germany, Italy, Australia, Taiwan, Brazil, UK, Mexico, the US states of Florida, Texas and New York, Chile and Greece are some of the countries which have seen sudden spikes and rises in hospital admissions. South Africa and Portugal both had sudden spikes of the new sub-variant area and are now in the decline phase. Ganja syndicate crippled, local kingpin arrested
KUALA LUMPUR: Police have seized more than 17kg of ganja after crippling a drug syndicate led by a local kingpin. City police chief Comm Datuk Azmi Abu Kassim said they raided condominium units in Kuala Lumpur and Kajang on June 24 and arrested two men and a woman aged between 24 and 31. "We also seized 17.3kg of ganja worth at least RM43,200, which could be consumed by at least 34,000 users. "Also seized were RM4,550 cash, RM15,000 worth of jewellery and a Honda CRV. "The suspects have been remanded for five days to assist further investigations," he said in a statement on Monday (June 27). "Our investigations revealed the drug kingpin for this syndicate was a local man," he added. KOTA KINABALU: Authorities have seized 900g of syabu, which was left in a boat following a chase in Menumbok waters on Monday (June 27). A Labuan Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) vessel was patrolling the area when they spotted a suspicious boat at around 12.30am. Labuan MMEA director Maritime Kpt Nudin Jusoh said when approached, the boat sped off towards Tanjung Klias. He said they searched the area and found an abandoned boat. “During a further inspection of the boat, we found the packed drugs with a value of about RM50,000. “The drugs and the boat had been taken to the Labuan maritime jetty for further investigations under the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952,” he said. Klang cops arrest five linked to convenience store robberies
KLANG: Police here have arrested five men in connection with a string of robberies at 24-hour convenience stores. South Klang OCPD Asst Comm Cha Hoong Fong said the suspects were aged between 21 and 45, adding that they were arrested in two separate raids on June 11 and June 24. "In the most recent incident which occurred at 3.48am last Friday, it was found that two suspects on motorcycles had entered a convenience store here,” said ACP Cha. He said the suspects were armed with a machete which they pointed at the female cashier before taking cash and various cigarettes from the premises. "Acting on information, the police arrested the suspects during a raid on two houses in Taman Teluk Gedung Indah, Port Klang at about 1.50pm on the same day,” said ACP Cha. Farmer wounded in Masbate gun attack
Stock image LEGAZPI CITY — A farmer was wounded after he was allegedly shot by his cousin in Mandaon town in Masbate province on Monday (June 27) morning. In a report, Masbate police identified the victim as Nicolas Dela Cruz, 64, a resident of Barangay (village) Cabitan. Investigators said while Nicolas was herding his carabao, the suspect identified as Manuel Dela Cruz, 67, approached him and shot him several times in his right thigh using an undetermined firearm at around 6:30 a.m. in the said village. The suspect was arrested in the hot pursuit operation, while the victim was brought to a hospital. Authorities were investigating to determine the motive behind the incident.
