A federal district court temporarily blocked a Biden administration mandate that forced employers to pay for sex change surgeries against their religious beliefs, according to a court order. District Judge Daniel Traynor of the U.S. District Court for the District of North Dakota, an appointee of former President Donald Trump, determined that the Christian Employers Alliance (CEA) will likely win its lawsuit, brought by the Alliance Defending Freedom (ADF), and issued an order temporarily blocking the Biden mandate while the lawsuit moves forward, according to the court order. (RELATED: Top Biden Health Official: All Pediatricians Agree With Castrating Gender-Confused Children) The lawsuit challenges the Department of Health and Human Services’ (HHS) inclusion of gender identity in its interpretation of “sex” in federal law, which the government used to justify forcing employers to cover sex change procedures, according to ADF. A Conversation With Labor Secretary Martin J. Walsh On The Economy, Employers, And Good Jobs

Strong job growth continues at the same time that we’ve seen an unprecedented boom in entrepreneurship. Thriving Main Streets across America are a critical part of a strong economy. Small businesses are the nation’s largest job-creators. Why All Employers Should Pay Attention to This New Employee Monitoring Law in New York
As if you need another reason to avoid spying on your employees. New York Governor Kathy Hochul signed a civil rights law last November directing private employers to notify employees if they're being monitored. The law, which went into effect earlier this month, may hold ramifications for employers more broadly, if other local lawmakers follow suit. Connecticut already hosts a similar measure, where employers in the state must issue written notice to employees if they're being electronically monitored. Per the New York monitoring law, private employers must issue a notice in a "conspicuous place" that conveys their monitoring practices to their workforce. Any new hires must receive a written notice and acknowledge receipt of said notice. The New York law focuses on target monitoring--for instance, reading emails or web browsing history--but general network services or cybersecurity tools fall beyond the scope of the law, according to Mark Francis and Sophie … [Read more...] about Why All Employers Should Pay Attention to This New Employee Monitoring Law in New York
Employers’ bid to hold off minimum wage hike in Western Visayas hit
Western Visayas map BACOLOD CITY — A labor group on Thursday slammed the request of employers to defer the minimum wage hike for workers in Western Visayas. The Partido Manggagawa (PM) also opposed plans of some businesses to seek exemptions from the wage increase. “It is adding insult to injury to workers for the regional wage boards to exempt and defer the wage hike as demanded by employers. The minimum wage increases are not even enough to recover the value lost to inflation for the past three years,” said Rene Magtubo, PM national chairperson. Magtubo said even small businesses can afford to give their workers a pay increase. “’Wag kayong kuripot (Don’t be stingy). Before the pandemic, businesses, both big and small, accumulated revenues and profit without sharing the productivity gains [with] their workers,” he said. “From 2001 to 2016, the economy doubled in size and productivity increased by 50 percent but real wages remained stagnant. The pie became larger but the … [Read more...] about Employers’ bid to hold off minimum wage hike in Western Visayas hit
Indeed And Lady Gaga’s Born This Way Foundation Find Young Workers Put A High Priority On Kindness And Mental Health
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin The Great Resignation shows no signs of slowing down. Employers hoping to return to business as usual are in for a rude awakening. There has been a fundamental sea change in what employees expect from the workplace experience, and organizations that do not adapt to meet those new expectations will lose out in a tight labor market. A revealing new survey by Indeed, the world’s number one job site, and Lady Gaga’s Born This Way Foundation shows this is especially true with gen Z and young millennial workers—who want to work for employers that value kindness and mental health. Since April 2021, at least four million Americans have been leaving their jobs each month. This ten-month period is the largest exodus of employees on record. Perhaps, as a McKinsey report argues, we should reconsider the term The Great Resignation, which implies a short-lived phenomenon. They suggest The Great Attrition—but also quickly point out … [Read more...] about Indeed And Lady Gaga’s Born This Way Foundation Find Young Workers Put A High Priority On Kindness And Mental Health
The She-Cession By The Numbers, Part 2
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin In light of the recent release of the U.S. Department of Labor’s April 2022 jobs report, it seemed like an appropriate time to do another deep dive into the numbers. Last time , in response to January’s report indicating that men had surged over a million jobs while women endured a net job loss, we tried to look at what happened and why, concluding with a sober prediction: that the pattern we could observe over the pandemic— where women’s employment numbers stagnated during surging numbers of Covid-19, cases while men’s tended to only slow down— was likely to continue without intervention. A drum I’ve been beating since the earliest months is that, far from this author’s most fanciful and optimistic hopes, the pandemic would disproportionately impact women, and it would do so in ways that reified traditional gender roles. We saw this anecdotally in those first months as women were increasingly reporting that they were being … [Read more...] about The She-Cession By The Numbers, Part 2
US-Malaysia panel on forced labour a step in the right direction, says MEF
PETALING JAYA: The working committee established between the Malaysian government and US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) to address issues related to forced labour is a step in the right direction, says the Malaysian Employers Federation (MEF). MEF president Datuk Dr Syed Hussain Syed Husman said the committee could help resolve outstanding withhold release orders (WRO) imposed on some Malaysian exporters to the United States. The US CBP had slapped WRO on exports of several Malaysian companies especially in the palm oil and rubber glove industries on grounds of alleged forced labour practices. The working committee is the best approach to tackle the issue, he said in a statement on Sunday (May 15), while also expressing appreciation for the efforts of the US Embassy in Malaysia to help resolve the forced labour claims. The working committee, which will focus on the exchange of information and formulating policies that would support initiatives towards tackling forced … [Read more...] about US-Malaysia panel on forced labour a step in the right direction, says MEF

The Big Difference For Your Small Business: Outsourcing HR
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin I love talking to entrepreneurs, the visionaries who launch small businesses. Their ventures often begin with a great idea for a new product or service that will make people’s lives better, easier, or more efficient. Too often, these same entrepreneurs discover that the more successful they are, the harder it is for them to keep their focus on the work that inspired them in the first place. Instead of reaching more customers, innovating, and growing their business, they are bogged down in administrative tasks—shopping around for the best health insurance or managing payroll taxes, or monitoring benefits and retirement plans. They’re spending more time performing HR tasks rather than ensuring that their business continues to excel. The good news for every entrepreneur and small business owner is that there is an easy and affordable solution: outsourcing HR to a Professional Employer Organization (PEO). I’ve made it my … [Read more...] about The Big Difference For Your Small Business: Outsourcing HR
