Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Horror author Stephen King offered his opinion on the chaotic state of Twitter, which has become a weird, wild place ever since the site was taken over by billionaire Elon Musk. King tweeted that he’s not a fan of the social media platform these days, writing : I think I liked Twitter better in the pre-Musk days. Less controversy, more fun.” Musk responded directly, with a playful ghost emoji. King did not respond, and Musk replied again, with what seemed to be a tepid peace offering: "I'm still a fan of you tbh." Again, King didn’t bother to respond, and eventually, Musk deleted the comment. King has complained about Musk’s management of Twitter before, previously comparing him to Tom Sawyer, a fictional con artist who tricks the gullible into paying to do chores. King also threatened to leave the site if Musk’s much-mocked proposal to charge Twitter users $20 for verification came to pass, … [Read more...] about Stephen King Is Not A Fan Of Elon Musk’s Twitter, And He’s Not Alone

Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Elon Musk’s first week at the helm of Twitter mirrors Jack Welch’s approach to capitalism. Musk’s approach to cutting executives and employees is a gut reaction to cut costs. Such tactics did not build enduring wealth for GE, and are even less likely to do so now for Twitter. In his first week at the helm of Twitter, Elon Musk took a page from a playbook once used by executives who relied on slash-and-burn tactics to create shareholder value. But, today, attitudes are changing and employees are recognized at the basis of value creation. It remains to be seen whether Twitter will survive the deep cuts to its workforce, but the evidence weighs against it. Musk has already fired key senior executives and his board . And when he laid off half of Twitter’s roughly 7,500 employees, he apparently asked management to identify low- and high-performing workers. He then fired low-performing employees by unceremoniously … [Read more...] about What Do Elon Musk And Jack Welch Have In Common? Well, It’s Not Their Ability To Create Shareholder Value
Twitter's billionaire owner Elon Musk on Sunday said that Twitter will soon enable organizations to identify twitter accounts associated with them as the new Twitter owner continues to find ways to limit fake accounts on the platform. "Rolling out soon," Musk in a tweet on Sunday said. "Twitter will enable organizations to identify which other Twitter accounts are actually associated with them." He did not elaborate. The social media platform paused its recently announced $8 blue check subscription service on Friday as fake accounts mushroomed, and new owner Elon Musk brought back the "official" badge to some users of the social media platform. Fake accounts purporting to be big brands have popped up with the blue check since the new roll-out, including Musk's Tesla and SpaceX, as well as Roblox, Nestle and Lockheed Martin . Musk in a tweet yesterday said that Twitter Blue will probably "come back end of next week". Twitter Inc's new owner Elon Musk on Thursday raised … [Read more...] about Elon Musk says Twitter to soon enable organizations to identify their associated accounts
Elon Musk is leading a hectic overhaul of Twitter that he says requires him to put in late hours at its headquarters in San Francisco. And employees are welcome to stop by his office if they want to chat about making Twitter better, Musk said in an email to his staff on November 11, CNBC reported. He also included a note of thanks for others who worked long hours at the office. "I was at Twitter HQ again until late into the night yesterday and would like to extend a note of appreciation to those who were there with me, as well as those working remotely, some of whom had been up even longer," Musk wrote in the email transcribed by CNBC. Musk has cautioned his staff of tough days ahead and mandated that everyone be in office 40 hours a week. In his November 11 email, he said exceptions can be granted to standout performers and those who genuinely cannot make to office. "That said, I am a big believer in the esprit de corps and effectiveness of being physically in the … [Read more...] about Elon Musk, at Twitter office till late, wrote this email to employees
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Elon Musk is not naïve about Twitter but has reportedly jumped to a few decisions before learning enough to predict consequences accurately. After all, he has a lot of money to bail himself out of mistakes. So how do we square an utterly bleak picture of him with his achievements? People often judge leaders as good or evil in high-stakes situations, saviors or villains. But in reality, few people are one thing or another. Musk falls into both categories, and people react by adopting a polarized view of him. But can leaders who have no desire to emulate Musk learn from him? Since Musk acquired Twitter, he has been the ultimate trial-and-error guy, drawing sharp criticism for causing chaos and harming the company. But are the predictions of doom premature or possibly wrong? Musk has given analysts, pundits, and journalists plenty to criticize, with sources inside Twitter reporting sweeping changes, massive layoffs, and … [Read more...] about Can Leaders Learn From Elon Musk Even If They Don’t Want To?

Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin It’s been a busy first few weeks for Elon Musk, now the owner of social media platform Twitter. Mindful of Twitter’s less-than-stellar financials, as well as the significantly increased debt the company now faces as a result of the acquisition, Musk has jumped into the task of diversifying the company’s revenue streams. Taking a move-fast-and-break things approach, as well as enacting deep layoffs, the company has so far seen significant issues as a result of Musk’s efforts. The launch of Twitter’s paid-for verification system has resulted in significant confusion and in some cases brand damage, including for pharmaceutical company Eli Lilly LLY , which saw its stock take a dive when a verified account impersonating the brand claimed it was making insulin free. On the technical side, the loss of large numbers of engineering employees – as well as, potentially, the deactivation of microservices on the platform – … [Read more...] about How Viable Are Elon Musk’s Payments Plans For Twitter?
(Image credit: AFP) Soon after taking over Twitter, Elon Musk ordered wide-ranging layoffs, a complicated process that caused panic and distress at the social network. A New York Times report reveals in detail the fallout of change in Twitter's ownership. The report said that on October 28, just hours after acquiring Twitter, Elon Musk called HR executives to a "war room" at Twitter 's headquarters and asked them to prepare for mass layoffs. They warned Musk about possible lawsuits resulting from the abrupt terminations but his team insisted he was not worried about them. Eventually, Musk had to hold on till November 1 as managers struggled to decide which employees they should sack. The response to the layoffs was visceral. One manager, told to fire hundreds, was so distressed that they threw up in a trash bin, The New York Times reported, relying on information obtained from chat logs, internal communications, employees and those close to the company. Twitter has … [Read more...] about Inside Elon Musk’s Twitter: Manager vomited when told to fire hundreds, says report

But in a recent interview, Munger says he doesn't recall that and went on to praise the company. Charlie Munger , an aide to veteran investor Warren Buffett, told CNBC what Tesla did in the car industry was a "minor miracle". “We haven’t had a successful new auto company in a long, long time," Munger said," admitting that he was surprised by its success. He personally praised Elon Musk , saying he "has done some good things that others couldn’t do". "Tesla has made some real contributions to this civilization," Munger added.
