Musk raised that possibility when, on Monday, the Tesla Chief Executive said he is deleting his Twitter account. As this is Elon Musk, he, naturally, made this announcement via Twitter. Just deleted my Twitter account — Daddy DotCom (@elonmusk) June 17, 2019 “Just deleted my Twitter account,” was all Musk had to say when he tweeted out his message about abandoning the social-media platform on Father’s Day. Musk also changed his Twitter handle to Daddy DotCom. Neither spokespeople for Tesla, nor Musk, immediately returned a request for comment about Musk dropping out of Twitter and abandoning his 27 million followers, who might now actually have to read actual news to learn what Musk is up to. And until Tesla confirms Musk’s departure from Twitter, or he starts tweeting again, one … [Read more...] about Is Elon Musk quitting Twitter, or making a good dad joke?

The latest Tesla moonshot is a doozy. On Monday, Elon Musk told an audience that Tesla plans to launch a large fleet of “autonomous robotaxis” in 2020. And not just a few: The Tesla CEO said the company planned to have a million of the self-driving vehicles on the road next year. Musk, however, did provide some caveats. For one, he said the robotaxis wouldn’t be everywhere. CNBC reports that he said “we won’t have regulatory approval everywhere.” As for the ambitious timeline, he explained that “sometimes I am not on time, but I get it done.” But he still repeated the 1 million robotaxi target for some time next year. As the Financial Times (paywalled) points out, this big autonomous technology push is a necessity for the company; Musk now believes that the only way for Tesla to achieve sustained profitability is by having a growing fleet of robotaxis boosting the bottom line. Musk, of course, is optimistic about his big … [Read more...] about Elon Musk thinks Tesla can build 1M “robotaxis” in the next year

By Bob Van Voris Bloomberg Craig Trudell Mon., March 11, 2019 Elon Musk told a New York judge that a pair of tweets he sent last month about Tesla Inc. weren’t improper, refuting a request by the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission to hold him in contempt for violating earlier restrictions on his social-media posts. The billionaire Tesla chief executive officer cited his constitutional right to free speech in his defence to the SEC claims on Monday in Manhattan federal court, meeting a deadline set by the judge. The SEC said his Twitter posts forecasting production of the company’s electric vehicles were misleading and hadn’t been vetted as required by an earlier order. For Musk, the stakes are high for his latest run-in with the securities regulator. Late last year, his Twitter musings about taking the company private resulted in $40 million (U.S.) in fines, the appointment of independent directors, and replacement of Musk as chairman. … [Read more...] about Elon Musk defends Tesla tweets that SEC says violated court order
