Democrats just got caught in another partisan distortion and should apologize for creating fear among women. In his first Supreme Court test regarding a woman’s choice, Kavanaugh joined the liberal justices. The Supreme Court on Monday passed on a pair of cases that would have allowed states to block Planned Parenthood and other abortion providers from their Medicaid programs. This denial serves as the first major abortion test now that it has a conservative majority. Chief Justice John Roberts and Kavanaugh helped turn away the petitions from lower courts in Kansas and Louisiana seeking the ban on abortion providers. It appears the fear-mongering US Sen. Elizabeth Warren was wrong when she tweeted, “We cannot go back to the … [Read more...] about Elizabeth Warren, Bernie Sanders owe Justice Kavanaugh apology
Sen. Elizabeth Warren has the core of her 2020 team in place if she runs for president. She has the seed money — there’s $12.5 million ready to go, left over from her recent Senate run — and a massive email list she’s amassed over years, boosted by a $3.3 million investment in digital infrastructure and advertising in the last election alone. Her aides have been quietly shopping for presidential campaign headquarters space in the Boston area in recent weeks, according to a source with knowledge of the move. All that’s left is for her to give the green light.Story Continued Below When and if she does, she’ll be rolling out arguably the most advanced and sweeping infrastructure in the Democratic field, a plug-and-play campaign that could give her a massive head start on nearly every contender in the burgeoning primary roster, with only Sens. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) and Kamala Harris (D-Calif.) coming close. So far, Warren has merely said she would … [Read more...] about Elizabeth Warren forges a 2020 machine
WASHINGTON — The plan was straightforward: After years of being challenged by President Donald Trump and others about a decades-old claim of Native American ancestry, Sen. Elizabeth Warren, D-Mass., would take a DNA test to prove her stated family origins in the Cherokee and Delaware tribes. But nearly two months after Warren released the test results and drew hostile reactions from prominent tribal leaders, the lingering cloud over her likely presidential campaign has only darkened. Conservatives have continued to ridicule her. More worrisome to supporters of Warren’s presidential ambitions, she has yet to allay criticism from grassroots progressive groups, liberal political operatives and other potential 2020 allies who complain that she put too much emphasis on the controversial field of racial science — and, in doing so, played into Trump’s hands. Advisers close to Warren say she has privately expressed concern that she may have damaged her relationships to … [Read more...] about Elizabeth Warren stands by DNA test. The Harvard Law professor had just turned in what she thought was a mostly finished manuscript of her first mass-market book. But her editor had one major criticism. Elizabeth Warren, Jo Ann Miller worried, had spent more than 160 pages of text and a further 50-plus pages of endnotes delineating a litany of data-backed reasons that bankruptcies and debt were going up and the middle class was going down. She had described what was happening, and had diagnosed why, and had presented possible solutions for legislators, regulators and wonks. Nowhere, though, had Warren offered the actual people who were bearing the brunt of these crushing economic forces anything approaching practical advice. This, her editor thought, was a missing piece. “There was no how-to in the book,” Miller told me recently. “I encouraged her to add a chapter of what to do about it.”Story Continued Below This suggestion led to Chapter 7 of The Two-Income Trap, which was published in 2003, and … [Read more...] about The Making of Elizabeth Warren

Sen. Elizabeth Warren, D-Mass., urged regulators this week to take action against banks issuing leveraged loans, warning that the practice could lead to a repeat of the 2008 financial crisis. Continue Reading Below “I am concerned that the large leveraged lending market exhibits many of the characteristics of the pre-2008 subprime mortgage market,” Warren wrote in a letter to Treasury Sec. Steve Mnuchin, Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell and other top economic officials. “These loans are generally poorly underwritten and include few protections for lenders and investors.” A leveraged loan is a loan given to companies that already have poor credit ratings or a large amount of debt.
