But as I’ve wondered out loud if 2022 plans were still happening, the game has issued an update about things on the way. Though it’s still not the roadmap that was originally promised before the year was out in 2021. The current status of Marvel’s Avengers, according to Crystal Dynamics, is as follows: Patch 2.3 is on the way and planned to release this month. Nick Fury is returning to lead SHIELD, though he’s an NPC, not a new playable hero. He will be “coordinating future Avengers Initiative missions,” though no specific missions are revealed. Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Today, Crystal Dynamics will announce a number of upcoming additions to Marvel’s Avengers, the live service superhero game that is very much still producing updates for a playerbase that might be more robust than you’re thinking. I got to speak with Avengers’ Lead Designer Brian Waggoner, who revealed that even with there being some debate about whether subscription services are helping or hurting the prospects of third party games, Marvel’s Avengers has really benefitted from them specifically. Waggoner says that the Avengers’ playerbase has been boosted now that it is available for “free” as part of both Xbox Game Pass and PlayStation Plus’s recently revamped tiers. Once again we find ourselves in a similar situation where we know almost nothing about the actual content of season 18, only this time, it’s being revealed in a showcase alongside additional Lightfall expansion info, and the hype train is starting to gain steam.
