Most DEI programs are missing out on large part of the population
In the last two years DEI (diversity, equity, inclusion) work has become sought-after: 80% of the people leading these initiatives were hired in just the last 18 months. advertisement advertisement Yet, well into 2022, there remains an American-centricity to this function, even at global companies. This makes sense when you consider that San Francisco Bay is the fastest-growing area for such positions, and the company with the most DEI professionals (45) is New York-headquartered IBM . But as DEI work becomes mainstream worldwide, employees abroad are beginning to question the local relevance of policies clearly drafted with America in mind. “By not localizing your programs, you’re effectively telling people in other places that their experience is not worthy of your attention – that’s exclusion,” says Sage Franch, Toronto-based founder of Crescendo , a learning and development solutions provider. Today, global DEI programs cannot, and should … [Read more...] about Most DEI programs are missing out on large part of the population
Colleges Should Become Full-Stack Writing Institutions
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Besides prank calls , my college roommate Dave’s greatest passion is looking for bad writing in the Yale Daily News . As America’s Oldest College Daily is the reigning champion of non sequitur conclusions, it’s not an onerous search; the worst (or best) part of YDN articles is usually the last sentence. Here are some recent winners: April 29 article on eugenics in Yale curricula . Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin The Great Resignation shows no signs of slowing down. Employers hoping to return to business as usual are in for a rude awakening. There has been a fundamental sea change in what employees expect from the workplace experience, and organizations that do not adapt to meet those new expectations will lose out in a tight labor market. A revealing new survey by Indeed, the world’s number one job site, and Lady Gaga’s Born This Way Foundation shows this is especially true with gen Z and young millennial workers—who want to work for employers that value kindness and mental health. Since April 2021, at least four million Americans have been leaving their jobs each month. This ten-month period is the largest exodus of employees on record. Inside Redesign Health’s Bid To Change The Healthcare Innovation Cycle
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Often misunderstood, Redesign Health’s model is a very different way to create, fund and launch healthcare startups, but will it pay off over the long term? Typically, a story starts with what a company is. In the case of Redesign Health , perhaps it’s best to start with what it isn’t. Redesign Health is not a venture capital (VC) firm, despite the fact that it's often listed among other VCs in funding press releases . It’s not a startup studio or accelerator, even though it’s named as a partner in building many early-stage healthcare companies. Instead, Redesign Health styles itself as “a company that powers innovation in healthcare by developing technologies, tools, and insights that lower the barriers to change across the industry.” What does that mean? After conversations with Redesign Health CEO Brett Shaheen, in addition to other entrepreneurs in the Redesign Health family, the answer is seemingly … [Read more...] about Inside Redesign Health’s Bid To Change The Healthcare Innovation Cycle
Lowering Technical Barriers To Create Opportunities For Diverse Voices
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin In any organization or community, the reality is that those with power and privileges are the ones whose ideas and stories get heard the most. Opportunities to speak up always go to the wealthy, connected, and able-bodied first. Everyone listens to the boss, cuz they’re the boss. Films get made by people who have money or know people with money. Audience discover your podcast cuz you’re already famous, or you had the opportunity to get into podcasting early (and could afford to make that risky investment). But the right technology and leadership can change that. Take for example, the newly launched audio tech company SHAYK , which CEO Verena Papik hopes will become “the world's most-inclusive social media platform.” While an executive at TikTok, Papik saw how creating quick and simple tools for video editing—easily one of the most time- and cost-prohibitive aspects of video production—allowed an enormously … [Read more...] about Lowering Technical Barriers To Create Opportunities For Diverse Voices

Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Sandra Scheinbaum, Ph.D., Founder and CEO, Functional Medicine Coaching Academy, Inc. In part as a consequence of the pandemic, which has caused greater focus and scrutiny on all aspects of health and wellness, the field of health coaching is experiencing an unprecedented boom. Preparing For Cyber Attacks – Strengthening Defenses Against Nation-State Threats
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin This weekend marks the one-year anniversary of the ransomware attack against Colonial Pipeline . That attack was soon followed by the ransomware attack against JBS . One thing both of those attacks have in common is that they are attributed to cybercrime gangs operating within Russia. Groups like Darkside and REvil, along with threat actors from APTs associated with Russian intelligence agencies pose a serious threat to organizations around the world. As the people of Ukraine heroically defend their country from destruction by Russian military forces, there remains a very real risk—expectation, actually—that Russia or threat actors aligned with Russia could launch devastating cyberattacks. There was an expectation that Russia would launch coordinated cyberattacks against Ukraine and its allies prior to, or in conjunction with the military invasion. For the most part, that has not happened, although there have been … [Read more...] about Preparing For Cyber Attacks – Strengthening Defenses Against Nation-State Threats
