Organic Reach in a Free Fall? Here’s Exactly Where You Should Spend Your Social Media Budget
In case you hadn't heard, consumers love Instagram Stories. And because of that, brands do too. There are over 500 million daily active Stories users worldwide . Younger users are particularly active on the platform: 59 percent of millennials and 70 percent of Gen Z watch stories, and many engage with brands by swiping up on content and clicking through to shop. For those new to the platform, Instagram Stories are images and videos located at the top of the Instagram app that last for 24-hours then disappear. When users finish a story, the next one starts playing immediately. The nature of IG stories--one image or clip appearing on your screen right after the other, makes the medium ideal for advertising. Since the ads flow along with the organic content, some users don't even realize they are watching them at all. Others actually welcome the interaction from brands that they like. A recent study reveals that a quarter of millennials and Gen Z check out IG … [Read more...] about Organic Reach in a Free Fall? Here’s Exactly Where You Should Spend Your Social Media Budget

Airbnb has a new ‘anti-party’ technology to spot possible troublemakers
Airbnb has a new system to identify possible rule-breakers at the time of booking. (Representational image), Airbnb has rolled out new technology in the United States and Canada to prevent unauthorised parties at its properties. It will help the vacation rentals company spot "high-risk reservations" and block them from making bookings. Airbnb had in June announced a permanent ban on parties at its rental locations. The company began its crackdown on parties in 2019 after a fatal incident of shooting in California. Now, it has rolled out new tools to enforce its no-party policy. Airbnb's new technology will look at factors like "history of positive reviews (or lack of positive reviews), length of time the guest has been on Airbnb, length of the trip, distance to the listing, weekend vs. weekday" before confirming bookings. "This anti-party technology is designed to prevent a reservation attempt from going through," the company said in a statement on August 16, … [Read more...] about Airbnb has a new ‘anti-party’ technology to spot possible troublemakers
How brands should harness content hyperlocalization, influencer marketing
Bea Evardone —Contributed photo Bea Evardone is the group chief operating officer of Republiq Group, a digital transformation agency based in Cebu. She won the Mansmith Young Market Masters Award 2022 and is the first winner in the geographical marketing category. In this interview, she shares her thoughts about hyperlocalization and influencer marketing. Question: You specialize in content hyperlocalization for the Visayas-Mindanao (VisMin) market. What makes VisMin consumers different from those of provincial Luzon and Metro Manila? Answer: I would say that purchasing power dictates the consumer behavior in VisMin. Price remains to be the most significant factor in purchasing decisions as purchasing power is just starting to increase. Having lived both in Manila and Cebu, I have seen this difference in dining areas during lunch on weekdays. In Manila, almost all restaurants, from fast-food to high-end dining areas, would be full. In Cebu, you won’t see as much dining … [Read more...] about How brands should harness content hyperlocalization, influencer marketing
UK to roll out next phase of booster vaccines from early September
Representative image (AFP) The UK's National Health Service (NHS) said on Thursday that it will start rolling out the next phase of booster vaccines to protect against COVID-19 from early next month, with the new bivalent Moderna jab targeting the original and Omicron strains to be used based on availability. Following updated advice from the Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation (JCVI) earlier this week, the NHS said it has set out plans for the next phase of the COVID-19 vaccination programme to begin from September 5. NHS staff will begin vaccinating care home residents and people who are housebound in the first tranche, to be rolled out to others based on age group later. "The NHS was the first healthcare system in the world to deliver a COVID-19 vaccine outside of clinical trials, and will now be the first to deliver the new, variant-busting vaccine when the rollout begins at the start of September, said NHS chief executive Amanda Pritchard. "Our fantastic NHS … [Read more...] about UK to roll out next phase of booster vaccines from early September
Is COVID more dangerous than driving? How scientists are parsing COVID risks
Faithfuls wearing protective masks at a church in Amman, Jordan. (File image: Reuters) Like it or not, the choose-your-own-adventure period of the pandemic is upon us. Mask mandates have fallen. Some free testing sites have closed. Whatever parts of the United States were still trying to collectively quell the pandemic have largely turned their focus away from communitywide advice. Now, even as case numbers begin to climb again and more infections go unreported, the onus has fallen on individual Americans to decide how much risk they and their neighbors face from the coronavirus — and what, if anything, to do about it. For many people, the threats posed by COVID have eased dramatically over the two years of the pandemic. Vaccines slash the risk of being hospitalized or dying. Powerful new antiviral pills can help keep vulnerable people from deteriorating. But not all Americans can count on the same protection. Millions of people with weakened immune systems do not … [Read more...] about Is COVID more dangerous than driving? How scientists are parsing COVID risks
Larry Summers Says The Fed Has Lost Some Credibility
Economist and former Secretary of the Treasury Department Larry Summers said in an interview with Bari Weiss that the Federal Reserve has lost its credibility after a series of bad judgment calls. Summer and Weiss were discussing the current state of the economy, when Weiss asked whether institutions “like the Fed are well prepared to navigate all of the crises” the country is facing economically. Summer said the Fed’s previous judgments have partially ruined its credibility and make it harder for Americans to trust the Fed as it navigates record high inflation. “I think the Fed has made a number of flawed judgments, particularly during 2021. Those bad judgments have reduced their credibility, which has made it harder to do what is necessary,” Summer said. “When you are less trusted, it is harder to lead.” Weiss then noted how officials have recently tried to downplay inflation and recession concerns, consistently telling Americans the problems were “transitory” and … [Read more...] about Larry Summers Says The Fed Has Lost Some Credibility
