Independence Day 2022: Joe Biden writes letters to PM Narendra Modi, President Droupadi Murmu

August 16, 2022 by www.moneycontrol.com

Prime Minister Narendra Modi with US President Joe Biden. President Joe Biden has written separate letters to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Droupadi Murmu on India's Independence Day, a senior US administration official said. The letters were hand delivered to India's Ambassador to the US Taranjit Singh Sandhu by Brian P McKeon, Deputy Secretary of State for Management and Resources, who attended an Independence Day reception hosted at the India House here on Monday. I should say at the outset, when I got here, I gave the ambassador two letters from the President, one to Prime Minister Modi and one to President Murmu. I should have kept them and just read the letters because they're probably more eloquent than what I'm gonna to say here, McKeon said in his remarks at the reception. There are a few partnerships more vital, more consequential than the one between the United States and India, he said. Starting from this day as a senator from Delaware, President … [Read more...] about Independence Day 2022: Joe Biden writes letters to PM Narendra Modi, President Droupadi Murmu

Delhi Deputy CM emphasizes need to instill confidence in children

August 6, 2022 by www.moneycontrol.com

Manish Sisodia (Image: Twitter) Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia on Saturday emphasised the need to instil confidence in children, saying we should have faith in children’s ability to succeed and encourage them to fulfil all their dreams. Sisodia was delivering a keynote address at the launch of the second issue of ”Children First” Journal by the Delhi Commission for Protection of Child Rights (DCPCR). ”The biggest drawback of our education system is that we do not have faith in our children’s ability to succeed. The question is not what do we write in the National Education Policy (NEP), but how we interact with our children in the classrooms and at homes. That shows that our lack of faith in them,” he said. We deter our children by asking them to dream within their limits whenever they share their aspiration of becoming an IAS officer, a Supreme Court Judge or a sportsperson, Sisodia, who also holds the education portfolio in the national capital, said. … [Read more...] about Delhi Deputy CM emphasizes need to instill confidence in children

India’s cooperative mess | Why issue license to UCBs if you can’t repay depositors on time, PMC Bank depositors ask

August 8, 2022 by www.moneycontrol.com

In China’s rural province of Henan, depositors are fighting to get their lives’ savings back. Their savings are stuck with five of China’s small rural banks which froze deposits amounting to $1.5 billion, as per reports. At the core of small banks’ problems in China is misgovernance by the management of the lenders, lack of regulatory disclosures by these entities and unclear ownership patterns. China’s regulator has vowed to repay as much money back to customers as it can, but the bank failures led to a rare sight where depositors protested against the strict Chinese authorities in large numbers. Not far away from China, a similar story is playing out in India. As per Union Minister of State for Finance Bhagwat Karad, a total of 27 small-sized cooperative banks were liquidated in India in the last five years, while 42 cooperative banks were closed on account of mergers. Close The Union Minister on July 26 informed Parliament that 10 cooperative banks were … [Read more...] about India’s cooperative mess | Why issue license to UCBs if you can’t repay depositors on time, PMC Bank depositors ask
