Droupadi Murmu (Image: Twitter @ANI) NDA presidential nominee Droupadi Murmu is likely to begin campaigning from July 1 from a state with a sizeable tribal population, sources said on Sunday. They said discussions are being held to finalise the state from where she will launch her campaign for the July 18 presidential election. In the meantime, Murmu is reaching out to leaders of various parties over phone to seek their support. She is likely to call up the leaders of opposition parties such as the DMK which is in power in Tamil Nadu and Telangana's ruling TRS in the coming days, the sources said. Murmu had called up JMM supremo and Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren on Saturday seeking his party's support for her candidature. India wins a gold medal in the Table Tennis Men's Team event after beating Singapore 3-1 in the final at the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham. Achanta Sharath Kamal loses for the first time in the tournament but Harmeet Desai & G Sathiyan first partner to win doubles and then win their respective singles matches. It's the second consecutive CWG Gold medal for India in Men's Team event after 2018. The team made it to the finals following a hard-fought 3-0 win against Nigeria in Semis. Mondal is being questioned by CBI officers at Nizam Palace, the agency’s office in the heart of Kolkata. One charge-sheet names him as a cow smuggler. The CBI has got a 10-day custody of Mondal. There are chances that he could be named in supplementary charge-sheets for smuggling coal, sand, and stone chips as well. Mondal has been at it for more than a decade. In China’s rural province of Henan, depositors are fighting to get their lives’ savings back. Their savings are stuck with five of China’s small rural banks which froze deposits amounting to $1.5 billion, as per reports. At the core of small banks’ problems in China is misgovernance by the management of the lenders, lack of regulatory disclosures by these entities and unclear ownership patterns. China’s regulator has vowed to repay as much money back to customers as it can, but the bank failures led to a rare sight where depositors protested against the strict Chinese authorities in large numbers. Not far away from China, a similar story is playing out in India. As per Union Minister of State for Finance Bhagwat Karad, a total of 27 small-sized cooperative banks were liquidated in India in the last five years, while 42 cooperative banks were closed on account of mergers.
